WAMT....what annoyed me today!

To be fair, Tesco swapped it out and it really wasn’t their fault; they also gave me a £5 voucher towards petrol.

I know jars have anti tamper lids but I tend to shovel stuff into the basket and I'm not one to hang about browsing.

One of my pet hates in supermarkets and in public generally is people talking loudly and swearing, especially when they have children with them. There seem to be a lot of people who can't talk without swearing.

Despite me having approaching 40 years no claims ( they only ever recognise 20 ) and no motoring offence's, in probably the same period.
Like all or most its an opt out renewal, which I think should be illegal anyway.

WBMT? Having to phone a distant planet to cancel, well you would think so, with the terrible, lack of clarity in the phone connection,
and the largely undecipherable speech from the other end.

WCMUT? (i) I finally managed to make myself understood, and I have emails to the effect, that it won't auto renew.
(ii) Finding a better insurance ( a couple of "free" add ons") for £280 and a few pennies.

WAMT was having the wrong bag and the wrong trousers. The right bag has my waterproof over-trousers in it and the right trousers have a waterproof lining. 100% my fauly but still bloody annoying! (Flip side was that I played better with soggy legs!!!)

Well actually a couple of days ago.
I often by plants from one specific internet company, and they have always been strong healthy plants,
Sometimes a tad smaller than advertised, but as above, they are strong and establish quickly.

This last one I bought, a multi Buddleia bush, ( 3 plants in one, interwoven roots) to replace the one that I destroyed last year as it was getting out of hand,
turned up with most of the branches dead and very leggy others with just a couple of buds breaking, along its length.

Thankfully I bought through Amazon, and there was no a quibble refund once I sent them the image, no apology though.
 
British Gas! Again! Full service contract for years with the annual service included. Service gets more overdue each year (not a problem for my boiler warranty, so they say). Had appointment for this after noon between 12 and 6 pm, so stayed in, cleared the boiler cupboard and the cylinder cupboard by 11.30 and THEN get a call to say they won't be coming! Grrrrrrrr! Reload the cupboards! Another appointment for next Friday afternoon. You pay through the nose and still don't get the service!
 
Walking past Sainsbugs. an elderly lady had fallen and cut her face. The staff were great, looking after her and they called an ambulance.
We met friends for coffee. Two hours chatting and enjoying our selves. Walking back past the supermarket. The ambulance had just arrived!
 
I'm not sure what it's like know, but about 12 years ago we called out British Gas to fix a boiler and it was well under £100 for the first half hour but then it would jump to something like £300 for the next hour (or something like that).

What they didn't tell you was that it would take him half an hour to do his initial safety checks before he could fault find. A complete con and never used them since.
 
Trying to get added to a bank account and it can only be done in a branch and not even all of them. Meanwhile banks are closing branches all over the place and the one convenient one apparently can't even do it. Utterly daft. :headbang:

WAMT? I have to wait two weeks for a doctors appointment and then not seeing a doctor at my surgery, I have to go to an alternate a few more miles away. Now I understand that things have to be triaged and that I am not in need of urgent care in this instance but this to me is an increasingly sad direction of travel.

I do feel for NHS and understand the pressure they are under and also that they have always been under appreciated financially, but the service is screwed. Too much pressure, not enough money, too many patients and new and inventive pandemics to deal with. And don’t get me started with the NHS Dental service.

We have this with my mum, who is 98, almost totally deaf and going blind. She lives on her own and does all her own washing, cooking and cleaning but when she phones the bank, with queries, they keep talking about "online accounts" and "apps"! :rolleyes:

Yes, it does in where i work - it's technically classed as "grazing" but unless we catch them actually in the act we usually can't do anything because they've eaten the evidence and discarded the wrapper, unlike 'proper' shoplifting. We also see it a lot with items like toothpaste - they open and discard the box with the barcode/security label and just slip the tube into a pocket or handbag.
 
Following on from post 13,606 when British Gas cancelled my appointment after me clearing my boiler and airing cupboards out and waiting in all afternoon, I got another appointment for today, between 12 and 6 pm. Guess what? It's getting on for 5 pm and no-one has phoned or arrived yet. Now I am not a betting man but .................................. Laters! EDIT- 5.23 pm and still waiting............. website "Track my appointment" shows the "engineer" is in my area................................
"Some boilers are quick to service, others can take much longer. So, we're sorry we can't give you an exact arrival time for your engineer. Our engineers and coordinators work really hard to make sure we serve all customers scheduled for the day. When an engineer's previous job is done, we will text or phone you so you know we're on our way."

Arrived at 5.55 pm and left at 6.45. Job done! Must have spent 1/2 an hour doing paper/laptopwork! Reminder to self:- Cancel BG contract and get a local plumber instead! :rolleyes:

Royal Mail is very weird at the moment, tracked parcels delivered about a day late, but letters about once a week all together.
I'm waiting on a code to reset my online banking and it was sent 1st class Tuesday, nothing as yet.
They confirmed in the sorting office when I picked up a package that every other day delivery at best is happening.
Apparently the management have cut or not replaced staff and they just don't have enough people to cover the rounds.

Your post comes from the same sorting office as ours - we get post just two or three days a week now as they are unable to recruit post people. Parcels either arrive swiftly or very late.
 
We seem to have a van running round delivering all the tracked stuff that could disprove targets being hit, and a much more irregular foot delivery service for any normal 1st and 2nd class post.

My wife recently accidentally checked out on three eBay orders to our old address simultaneously and the one sent 1st class was redirected ok (along with some other addressed catalogue type bits), the two the sellers sent tracked were both delivered to the old address, as if they had skipped a step in the sorting office….

Exactly the same here and often late on in the day, sometimes its the manager or at least that's what his hi viz vest says.

Not sure about that, we have our own one here in St Ives, doesn't yours come from the one off St Peters Road?
Same irregular pattern wherever it comes from, maybe they should just say every other day and make sure it is.

My last 48 hr tracked parcel, took 5 days, I told the sender, I hope they claim.

A couple of other 48 over the last months have taken 3-4 days.
5 is the record so far though.

I see a postie maybe 3 times a week.

I'm willing to bet that they haven't cut any management jobs.
 
Royal Mail has significant problems. Their rates making their service unaffordable. Their service not worthy of the price and competition taking the profitable bits away from them. It was a simple decision for the Government to get rid of a problem service and take a few quid back out. A sign of the times? It looked like the BBC would follow - also the NHS?

I'd say that Royal Mail has one single problem: corrupt government ministers and their lackeys.

Allowing other organisations to compete with Royal Mail, while not requiring those competitors to meet the universal service obligation, is straight forward abuse of office. We saw this in every privatisation: the national industries being unsaleable unless their obligations were seriously diminished. I believe that we should not blame the people in those industries, who are suffering just as much as the rest of us.

The competition cherry picked the easy bits like inner city letters, Royal mail were forced to take the rest from them at a reduced cost,
They also aren't forced to deliver to every address in the UK as Royal Mail are, unless things have changed recently
Driving a couple a miles up a remote lane to deliver one letter that one of the competitors has paid peanuts to be delivered to the end point was never going to be a good business thing for RM
Until the playing field is levelled things will never change and I do wonder who will take over 100% coverage if RM go broke

BT were hampered in the same way having to provide loss making landlines to all and sundry.
 
At work all our steps away from Royal Mail have been driven by industrial action over the years rather than cost.
For example during one set of strikes we overhauled our trade invoice processing so that for credit customers instead of being done the day after despatch, and posted the invoices were raised same day and sent with the goods. That along removed 40 or more letters from us as a small company.
During another set of strikes we overhauled credit control to email over post for the early stages, monthly statements etc losing another similar number.

In the end we cancelled our collection as we were down from an average of 80-100 pieces per day to low single figures.

I suspect these steps would have come in eventually with technology changes anyway, but the industrial action sped it up by a number of years.
 
I've just had a little run in just 100 yards from home.

There's a car wash/valet business operating from a house and there's often lots of cars there, how the neighbours manage I don't know. Anyway. I was just coming back from ASDA with my mam in the car and as usual there was a row of cars on their side and one of the employees was talking to someone in a car blocking the road. I waited maybe 30 second and they showed no inclination to move so I gave them one toot (and honest that's all it was) and the car moved immediately but the car wash employee went absolutely mental. I can swear with the best of them so he got both barrels, his threats against me were ignored other than me saying "The police can sort you out gobsh!te." BTW. I know it's not really a golden rule but he looked like he couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

I phoned the non emergency number and got the typical response, a woman (nothing wrong with that but just that it always seems to be) who appeared totally bored and disinterested other than wanting my email address so that she can send me some condescending bog standard "victim" reply. When I mentioned that they were running a car wash/valet business she pounced and said that that wasn't anything to do with the police and I should ring the council. My reply was that I wasn't interested in the business and just wanted the police to stop their employees issuing threats to the locals or someone else will.

What's the betting I get a visit and that I'm asked not to create a breach of the peace?

Thats true but no excuse. They had all the infrastructure in place before the home delivery boom started. If they had anything about them whatesoever the competition wouldn't have got a look in.

Believe me, I don't think that's possible no matter how long it's been since he went to Specsavers.

She was keen to know what ethnicity I identified as and she used that phrase "identify as" so I assume that even though I'm northern English, very pale skinned and freckled I can identify as something else. Years ago and just for fun I used to put on a Caribbean accent because at one time my best buddies (two of them) were from that part of the world and I loved the accent, I've always loved calypso music and Harry Belafonte and Island In The Sun has always been a favourite of mine and I'd love the lifestyle described in the song... so if I wasn't who I am I've always fancied being West Indian. I should have gone for it.

What a strange question to ask.
I went to Brixton tech and later worked at Brixton telephone exchange. Spent many happy hours on Electric Avenue and the clubs/record shops. The lads tried to teach me the accent. They only did it because I was useless and it gave them a laugh. Very comfortably happy in West Indian company.
