WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Why would that annoy you?
If by "electric scooter" he means one of those things with tiny wheels and no seat, then I could understand it. Those of us who strive to obey the rules have this foolish attitude of expecting others to do the same...

Ah, ok now I get it.
I was thinking of a proper scooter with an electric engine, not the poxy electric ones....

Bloke in the supermarket licking his fingers before counting cash & handing over to the girl on checkout. could see girl was not happy and she used the hand sanitiser immediately afterwards.

I happened to look out the window, to the garden, to see a Heron, stalking towards my pond.
It's netted with a very heavy-duty net. 1 inch mesh.
By the time I got there, seconds later, it had grabbed a fish through the net, about a 4-inch shubunkin,
And obviously couldn't get it out.

It flew off to one of the surrounding houses' rooftop, I knew it would be back, so I settled in a corner, out of vew,
and sure enough 5 mins later it was back, this time I had my blanks' pistol, that was one toy I used for bird control.
A couple of rounds, later, and it's nowhere to be seen.

The fish? It seems OK outwardly, just not moved far from where it was attacked.
But at least it's the right way up and breathing…
I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I take it you've tried a row or 2 of fishing line a few inches off the ground around the pond?

Indeed, at various heights, and criss-crossed too.
It doesn't discourage them, they find a way to step over / straddle or otherwise avoid.

The victim, wasn't in the same spot this morning nor floating.
Other than that I can't tell, they all go deep and under (plant) cover, and will stay like that probably for 24 hours,
As they do when a heron turns up.

The fish from our small pond were taken by a Heron who also came back several times to take replacements. The replacements came from a friend of my daughter who was honest and asked her friend if she had donations for THE DEATH POOL. Not surprisingly, natural selection has resulted in the remaining fish being dark blue which are hard to see. We do have a pond cover now to stop a child falling in and this also deters the Heron.

Curiously, at least one of mine is carrying a black gene, and the offspring are pretty invisible also.
A couple of them have a gold patch, which flashes against the sun, as they roll over.

Following the signs to the "Vaccination Centre" at the local hospital, past where the centre was last year, only to be told that "Over 75s are still in the old vaccination centre. We've had loads of you in here this morning!" I am not over 75, I was accompanying my 98 year old mum, who had to go all the way back again! Once in the correct place, I was mistaken for my mum's husband! I'm 26 years her junior!!!!

One of my neoghbours asked me if I could go round and soort out her phone which wasn't working after BT fitted a new router.
Seems she found a parcel in her shed which was this router, same day another woman on ther estate had one fitted.!
When she phoned BT she was told that they were replacing all existing routers in our area, they didn't tell she was changing
to digital full fibre
Engineer turned up yesterday, put the new wiring installed the router and left
She has wireless base phone with ansaphone in the bedroom and in the front room just the handset with chargining dock,
no wonder the phone didn't work
Once I had changed things around all is OK but why did thisi happen without explaining to her and leave without making sure everything was working ?
I did speak to a tech guy on her behalf, he never exlapined the problem and only seemed interested in selling a new digita set up that she doesn't need.

Up early this morning to head down to the lakes, just one problem no car keys.
We're in the process of moving and downsizing so we have let a few things go and on Tuesday the British Heart Foundation collected a few pieces of furniture guess which plonker left both sets of keys in one of the drawers.

Ooops!
I hope you track them down, or they'll think the car was a donation too!

Yes phoned them first thing, they had already rescued them from the drawer and were going to phone to let me know. One of the downsides to living in a rural community is it's quite difficult to get anywhere by public transport, what's an easy 45 minute drive by car was a 2 hour 3 bus journey one way and a hour and a half one train 2 bus journey back to save waiting around. The one positive was at least I get free travel on public transport.

I'm glad you recovered them, but that is totally outrageous journey times :(

Long journey :( time but on the positive side you got the keys back and you won‘t do that again:)

Living in the sticks has its disadvantages but that's IMO more than made up by its advantages, I can pretty much reach the Lakes, Northumberland national park, The North Pennines, The Galloway Coast and The Yorkshire Dales all within an hour.

Hopefully not I've put a spare set into my camera bag, not likely to pack or give that away.

Having a tooth extracted! Cracked a rear molar a couple of weeks ago, we tried to crown it but the crack was too long so out it came

WAMY was coming home and finding 4 garden chairs in my porch. They originally said that they would arrive by Wednesday this week so I arranged my week around that. On Tuesday they said that they would arrive on Friday so I re-arranged everything and went out all day Thursday. At 0930 Thursday they sent a message saying that they would arrive that day and if I was not in they would leave a card and I could arrange delivery for a different day. Instead they just dumped them in my unlocked porch.

WAMT was getting the folding wooden chairs out of the packaging and finding that all the pivot connecting screws were loose in all the chairs and one had come out completely. I tried to put it back in but the 2 halves of the connector did not connect as they had failed to countersink the wood to accept the connector bolt head!
£85 a chair and they can't even do quality control.

Early Summer cold is ponessing me off today! Yesterday, I hoped it was just hay fever but today sees my temperature up a bit and my throat much sorer. Got a few tests left over so did one this morning - negative, so throat sweets and NightNurse!

The Lycra clad moron riding far too fast (30mph+) on a country footpath that nearly wiped out me (in my wheelchair) and my Assistance Dog this morning.
Most cyclists are decent, thoughtful road users but the presence of Lycra or similar clothing appears to close down that bit of the brain which controls good sense and politeness.

When I cycled regularly I saw it far too often and it's so unnecessary. If they want to race around on a bicycle they should go to a proper track reserved for cyclists. When using a road, or a pavement shared with pedestrians, they would be better advised to show polite and cautious behaviour towards other users.

What annoyed me today: the Police.

The number one priority of the police is the police.
The police put themselves first, second, and third every time and they treat the general public as a minor inconvenience.

Well, that's what I have just told the chief constable, I'm awaiting his response.

WAMT:

Went to go to a small spring fair at a local arboretum in a local village which is normally a couple of hours visit tops, and they are trying their luck with a £10 per vehicle parking charge…add that to the entrance and booking fee and they are looking at £13.50+ each for my wife and I….

I’ll bake you a cake with a file inside :(

Why, when you drive 10 plus hours and more than 500 miles almost directly south, is the weather just as cold and wet as at home?

But that’s not bad is it, average of 50mph, excellent:)

C'est facile sur l'autoroute. TBF it was only 3 hours to do the 140miles from J10 of the M40 to the tunnel too - the slowest bit is after we leave the autoroute at Troyes, covering just over 200km in 2 1/2 hours.

I don't believe that complaint stands up to close examination.

Of course, in such a large workforce, there are bound to be trouble makers and I have run up against some myself. However, I have never found any tolerance for genuinely bad behaviour, on the occasions I have encountered it. Rather, I have found that a polite complaint to a divisional commander will result in action, although you won't always be told what form it took. I have known several police officers and two of my family are in the local force. These are all people who take their job very seriously, and with remarkable good humour, even when their role involves a great deal of unpleasantness.

In fact, I'm often surprised that most coppers can raise a smile as often as they do!

WAMY was that Mrs Nod's mobile's charging port seems to be shorting somewhere (my guess is that she's forced the plug in the wrong way but that's not the annoyance). Easy enough to get it repaired but it would cost around £40 for the repair, plus whatever postage/parking etc.. A replacement was £35 and all done and dusted in 1/2 hour, including repopulating her address book.

EDIT - It was Mrs Nod's MUM's mobile's charging port (USB Micro) that was fnurked! Mrs Nod's mobile has a far more sensible USB C port - impossible to get upside down!

Actually I think I can claim all 3
WAMT? Car insurance up from £360 last year to £480 this year.
Despite me having approaching 40 years no claims ( they only ever recognise 20 ) and no motoring offence's, in probably the same period.
Like all or most its an opt out renewal, which I think should be illegal anyway.
Its either live chat or phone to cancel.
Live chat doesn't appear to be working.
So I phoned ..

WBMT? Having to phone a distant planet to cancel, well you would think so, with the terrible, lack of clarity in the phone connection,
and the largely undecipherable speech from the other end.

WCMUT? (i) I finally managed to make myself understood, and I have emails to the effect, that it won't auto renew.
(ii) Finding a better insurance ( a couple of "free" add ons") for £280 and a few pennies.

WAMT? Finding out that there is a hole in my car aircon condensor due to a stray stone or something finding its way through the grill! Doh! More expense!

Bought a jar of Branston pickle today from Tesco. Got home and opened it to find someone else has already eaten some of it by dipping in what appears to be a sausage roll as pastry flakes remain the the hole.

Why do folk think that it is acceptable that you start eating whilst walking around a supermarket? From the discarded detritus at times it appears that not all is paid for. Does that still count as shoplifting?

As a nation, in my opinion, standards have slipped significantly since covid lockdowns.

IIRC the likes of Branston jars have the tamper evident 'click' lids...,........and FWIW I always check any jars with those lids are 'secure'. On at least one occasion when I have found a tampered lid I gave it to an assistant.

As for the sort of 'browsers' you mention, ban them!

That is disgusting.

Where do people learn this behaviour? Just no decency.

One of my pet hates in supermarkets and in public generally is people talking loudly and swearing, especially when they have children with them. There seem to be a lot of people who can't talk without swearing.

Though I should know better - trademen who bodge jobs. Much of my day has been spent removing about 120 years worth of badly applied paint from window frames that was causing problems both opening and closing them. The final straw was getting the windows painted by a local firm, who took much less care than I would have expected, and whose idea of preparations seems to have been to give a half-hearted wash before painting.

OTOH it turned out to be a lovely day, with much milder weather and strong sunshine.
