Why the rush to get the shot?? Long exposure night photography is one of the most demanding styles of photography out there, but also one of the most satisfying when you get it right.. Take your time, slow down and enjoy the experience.. Best way is to shooting, chimp, adjust, shoot, chimp...

Fickle,,you won't mess up.. If you're using DPP, you can always undo any changes.. Just put the RAW image up on the screen in DPP and have a play around with the adjustment sliders.. Convert your RAW images into Jpeg to your normal photo folder.. When you close DPP you'll be asked if you want...

I've been using 3rd party batteries bought off Ebay since about 2005,, I've never had any problems.. One good brand to look out for are Momax..

Yes Rob.. I use Eneloop re-chargables in all (three) of my RF-602 receivers with great results.. I give the batteries a bit of a top up before a big shoot..

I had a couple of err99s with my Canon 20D/Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 about 18 months ago.. This happened within a few weeks.. I cleaned the electrical contacts on both lens and camera.. It hasn't happened since.. I hope this helps..

To me it also looks like focus error.. The Canon 70-200mm either in f/2.8 or f/4 are reknown for their sharpness and image quality.. Try doing a few tests on a static subject.

Joe,, check out the Canon G11.. Not the smallest compact around but has brilliant image quality and heaps of features..
