Can classic paint be restored using "proper" bird poo proof paint or can only water based carp be used? Does anyone know exactly what the damaged car was? Not that any scenario makes the reaction acceptable or even understandable, just that even slight damage can make a huge difference to some classic cars' values.

I've never had any water based paint marked by bird poo, but the opposite on older cars.

In order to try and understand some of the motivation behind this, there is some relevance to it. Never an excuse but some relevance.

People deal with such shocking situations in different ways, I don't think it is fair to immediately label them as utterly disgraceful just because it is different to you @yorkshirechap

I can get mine repainted using the original paints, original colour mix (as it's all recorded) by the original painters for around £9k all in, or I can use a local specialist for £6k. If you add in any bodywork damage, then insurance companies are likely to write the car off unless an agreed value.

Whilst being very annoyed if it happened to me and I'd be questioning their ability to drive at an advanced age, it's not worth stabbing anyone over.

Unfortunately mine is quite faded and pearlescent. The problem with the older cars is it's actually difficult to match exactly and therefore is noticable, so often a full respray is the only acceptable compromise. Getting the insurance company to agree though...

Yep but they also say things nice about a the victim.
A few years back one that happened they quoted the victim as being a wonderful daughter who studied hard etc.
Never did a thing wrong,etc. etc.
She was killed outside of a nightclub, drunk and taken drugs, only 16

It doesn't make it right, but I will wait until the full story emerges

Without knowing the ins and outs either way it is impossible to tie this together based on newspaper reports. That is however the task for the police who will have to bring the case together such that the CPS can get an appropriate conviction.

At the moment all we know is that very fit older gentleman has been fatally wounded following an incident by a man in his thirties believed to be the chap that was arrested and charged. Both parties family and friends deem this out of character, yet it happened and we don't know why, nor for certain by who.

And along the same lines, the victim was never "an absolute w***er who pi55ed off everyone he met".

And no, I'm not saying that would be a defense, just that it's always what a nice person the attacker and/or victim always seemed to be.
As has been said previously, the truth will likely never be fully known.

Judging by the number of people I see with sat navs stuck in the middle of the windscreen, they would have to replace observation as the driver would have a bloody great blind spot.

I thought murder is premeditited, the prosecuting counsel will try to prove that the defendant deliberately set out to end another's life.
Manslaughter is accidental which is why the defence counsel will try to convince the jury regarding mitigating circumstances regarding this incident and charge the defendant with manslaughter which carries a lower penalty

You don't have to prove the accused deliberately set out to end another's life for murder. You have to prove they intended to kill OR seriously injure the victim. As any reasonable person would believe that stabbing someone multiple times with a knife would result in serious injury, then that would be murder whether they "intended" to kill or not.

Chances are the car in front braked for what ever reason. The victim may well have been annoyed at this and hitting the other car and gone to have a bit of a rant at the other driver. Quite why the other bloke then pulls a knife and uses it several times is the bit that would be out of character for quite a few people I would imagine.

Young family mid 20's with a kid about 2yrs old. An older family late 30's with 2 daughters aged about 8 &10. The other is owned by a couple in their 70's.

A 2002-2012 car isn't exactly what I'd class as an older style car neither. Who ever described it as such would probably describe an estate as "one of those long ones".
