WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Happens a lot on the Arran ferry in the dining areas. I don't mind people doing it so long as they are willing to downsize to a smaller table if necessary, such as I did last year. Only took a few seconds of my life to grab my food and move. Not exactly a hardship.

Things like this and also gigs, where guys in particular will go and stand in front right in front of a shorter woman when there's room to the side, with not a care in the world that they've just blocked her view, really do show up how many selfish are out there.

My other half has had this a few times at gigs some people are very selfish, last time I made a point of her moving in front of me so she could see

I went to collect hearing aid batteries at the local pharmacy, which is in the doctor's surgery. Checked the surgery opening times but.................. the pharmacy has different times and was closed! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Rechecked the website and no mention of it!

Why do car manufacturers persist in building cars without indicator stalks, I mean come on, we need them getting on and off roundabouts, when we suddenly need to swerve from lane to lane on a whim, and just generally informing other motorists of our intentions. We are going to end up like a third world country.

Why only today i have had to excesivly use the horn several times, to be faced with straight ahead stares.

Ps. I note the horn is heavy duty!

My wife always tells me "You indicate too early". My response is that it's better than not indicating at all, and those around me will have a good idea of my intentions. Remember, Mirror, Signal, Manovure. When I check my mirrors I can see who may want to know that I intend to slow down and turn. The sooner they know the less chance there is of them doing something rash.....

I think some things should be legislated into cars and some things should be legislated out of them. Given the job for a day I'd mandate manual controls for all of the usual things and ban those tablets where just about everything seems to need to be done in some cars. I'd also introduce legislation requiring cars to be repairable and for the spare parts to be available in a reasonable time and at a reasonable cost for a stated period even after production has ceased.

I visited our local library to pick up batteries last week, none to be had despite them telling me they should get a delivery daily-no they didn’t-, called the audiology dept at my nearest clinic who were surprised but said if I popped along in 1/2 an hour they had a free spot I could use to pick some up, so I did, was told that there was a box of batteries still waiting to be delivered, guess who volunteered to do it for them, but was turned down.

Remember, Mirror, Signal, Manovure.

Thats a British thing

These days its slow down, check your phone for messages, brake, and only indicate at the last minute only if you need someone to let you through on a right turn.

I'm pretty religious when it comes to indicating, which probably comes from riding motorcycles and appreciating the importance of cars who indicate.

A left-over from biking is reading which way a vehicle will turn from speed and position, but it's not foolproof.

What do you do..cross yourself as a you're doing it or say a prayer ? :D
When I was still working I sometimes had to help other surveyors, mostly in central London, and travel around in their car. On quite a few occasions I have done both of the above and at the same time.:)

I remember on one occasion, when a car in the opposite direction was overtaking parked vehicles on my side of road, she had obviously not seen me at all. Rather than pray she took both hands off the steering wheel and covered her eyes and face!

I went up the kerb onto the, luckily, empty pavement, unbelievable.

On every journey I now expect at least two or three "near misses" with idiots who have little cognitive spatial awareness and who are focused purely on the bumper of the car in front.

Cycling to work one morning, this happened to me, except it was a bus and he HAD seen me, but decided he was bigger and had right of way. The pavement probably saved my life.

I think most of us who have spent any time on a bike fully understand the idea of "showing intention". I drive with lights on dipped beam all the time (unless on an empty unlit road where I go to high). I think it was the "SEE & BE SEEN" ethic drumbed into me while doing my IAM.

When thinking back, I was 24 when I did my Direct Access and it's pretty crazy when you think about it that after that short course I could then jump from my lovely little Aprilia RS125 straight onto an R1 or a Hayabusa. I ended up sticking to 600cc (ZX6R and GSXR6), which is probably why I'm still alive lol

I think it was 1981, when I sold my Honda C90 and bought a brand new Kawasaki AR80 in "the" green. It was a lovely little thing. Couple of years later, I took my two part test and PX'd the AR80 for a GPz 550 Unitrak in red and black. I am glad I didn't go for anything larger at that stage.

I spent a good hour digging the roots of a small tree out but it wouldn't shift! I then remembered my weight training! I got my weights bar, hammered it under the roots with my lump hammer, put a couple of house bricks under and heaved on it - out it came! "Give me a lever long enough and I will move the world!" (great grandad John - 1961!) Maybe this should go in WCMUT!

As a fitter in the coal mining industry many years ago I quickly learned the advantage of using 9’ lever in moving/lifting things, also the advantage of having a big burly grafter to operate said lever. ;)

I removed a small, but high, hedge in my back garden about 10 years ago and was astonished at how deep the roots went. Turned into a nightmare job as I couldn't get any machinery in and it was a constrained area, so it was all by pickaxe.

We once had a small tree trunk in the garden and after having a go and getting nowhere I asked a "traveller' who was doing a drive nearby...Cost me £10.."Give it to the lad", he said. He had his 12 year old with him, along with the gang.

Tbh..I've given up doing anything that takes a great deal effort or is messy..like painting and get someone in. A quarter of the time and a better job.

I'm banned from going up ladders anymore so we have a chap come twice a year to do the gutters..clean them out, what with all the rain we get nowadays. He now does both our neighbour's gutters, too, so we got him some extra jobs. He does us all on the same day.

My DIY is now GSI (Get someone in) as due to my health I can't do many of the things I would have taken on in the past, including decorating.

Never had an issue with ladders, I guess being a radio amateur and working for many years in the antenna & mast industry has set me up OK. When I need to install/fix any of my antennas, I just plan for it to take all day, maybe two. I can't run up and down ladders like I used to, but doing everything a bit at a time works for me......

My wife dropped off a form at the GP surgery at the beginning of last week for a doctor's signature (part of the process to claim a workplace pension lump sum). Phoned this morning to chase it and they appear to have lost it!
Just an update. Phoned the pension company to get a replacement form and it turns out they sent me the wrong pack, I don't need a doctor's signature!

Hardly instils much confidence that they'll deal with the rest of it competently. :$

I had an issue the bank today who screwed up the allocations into the two sub accounts and wanted me to wait for 3-5 days to simply correct one and put the adjustment into the other, which by then a scheduled DD was due. They said I could cancel the DD as it would be ok and they wouldn't be looking for it.

Hell no. I know fine well that if there was even a pound left that they would try and take it and I'd end up with a missed payment on my credit file. I insisted that they sort it there and then, so she put me on hold for about 3 minutes then told me a senior manager had sorted it and this was your final balance. 3-5 days... makes you weep sometimes.

On Monday I ordered something on Amazon from a supplier I've used before, a seller based in Lancashire. The item was dispatched that day using "Royal Mail Tracked 24"...

Checked yesterday and there was no updates on tracking....

This morning checking tracking and it now showed "Parcel arrived at a carrier facility - Truro MC, GB"

The problem is I don't live in Cornwall.... I live in Cumbria!!!

The tracking has updated again and now shows "Sorry, your item went to Truro MC in error, so we re-routed it immediately. More information will be available as it travels through our network."

Watching vids of the "automated" sorting offices, with multiple barcode and Q code readers doing their thing, with conveyor belts and push/pull systems etc., it only needs one shot of birdsh*te or a crease on the label and it all goes to pot!

Truro seems to be a popular place, Ive had parcels go via there, wonder if it’s a default if the barcode read is ‘fuzzy’.

On the M8 this evening and it started to snow. Most dropped to 40-50mph including me as my tyres wouldn't be as flexible at 1°C. But of course there's always some who continue to power down the motorway at 70mph+.

I pulled into the services and took this photo before it got a lot worse. It's insane to speed in this.

Checked the tracking this morning and it had finally reached Carlisle and was saying due for delivery this morning... At 13.30 I checked tracking again and it was showing as having been delivered... but there was no sign of it having been put through the letter box... So I checked proof of delivery and it was a photo of a house number, but it wasn't the same style as the number at the correct delivery address. The parcel had been delivered to a house on a neighbouring street. I wandered round to that house and picked it up...

The BBC bradcasting of the Winter Olympics
Why do they have to keep changing channels so the news is on BBC 1 during the day, why not have the Olympics on either BBC1 or BBC2

It is the same when they show Match of the Day of Sunday morning. BBC Breakfast is on BBC1 until about 7:30 when it swaps to BBC2 so MotD can be on BBC1 - why?

I tried to watch the curling from the iPlayer, Thursday match. Eventually found it, iPlayer missed the first two ends and the the BBC swapped channels so I missed the last end!

You couldn't make it up! It's the same when they show the Wimbledon tennis. Constant channel swapping and moving to iPlayer. It'd almost impossible to follow.
