WAMT....what annoyed me today!

If you go on the law society website you can search for solicitors in specific areas of law in your geographic area.

Irwin Mitchell have a .Middlesbrough office, they do contentious probate.

They do indeed but they failed to call me back either yesterday or today but I did receive an email at 18:53 from someone in Leeds. Leeds is waaaay too far away so unless the contact is willing to meet me at their Middlesbrough office, which is the office I rang, I wont be using them.

This plus in my limited & needing some insight and guidance, the solicitors gave IIRC 30minutes free of charge consultation.

Though clearly on @woof woof experience that seems to have changed.

Their practices seem to vary.

Contentious probate is something a lot of them don't seem to do. It has been very frustrating trying to google contentious probate solicitors near me as many of the results are outside of my area and many wont do contentious probate.

Another issue seems to be trainees and/or duff information. These are things I've suffered from twice now with two different firms. At the last one my first contact was a trainee although at the second meeting I ended up sat with the guy who's name is in the firms title. His answer to one of my points was to "phone the police" which is just garbage advice as the police would say "That's a civil matter" and refuse to act. And that's from the guy with his name on the building. Absolute steaming BS advice.

Hence my insistence to talk to someone to make sure they know their anus from their elbow before I hand over any money and waste any more time.

I did enter "Probate - disputed " as a search criteria ....

I'll give that a go. I used "contentious" as that's what the guy with his name on the building called it.

Had a quick look. I rang most of them today but there's some I didn't.

This whole thing has been an absolute nightmare and in some respects has been worse than the death of my mother in that the issues are ongoing and from living family members.

I started by looking for contentious but 'disputed' was the closest adjective.

All the best with trying to find 'the right solicitor ' and at the very least identifying one who can advise appropriately to your area of need

Edit
Does your situation in some way overlap with "Family Law" ?

I don't know.

The issue I have is that there are two surviving executors named in my late mothers will, me and my sister. The probate which she and I signed has come back and we need to agree a way forward and how to distribute my late mothers life savings to the three beneficiaries but she wont agree to any plan (basically, we should agree and transfer the money from my mothers frozen bank account into my account or hers and then pay the solicitor and the beneficiaries) but she refuses to talk to me or agree to any way forward. So, there's no way forward except to prod her with a solicitors letter to prompt her to come to some agreed plan and proceed, or we could go to arbitration or I suppose she could possibly be removed as an executor. There's also another issue in that my sister removed just about every photograph my mother possessed and many of mine too. We need to agree on the division of these but if there's any dispute over who gets what picture I'd gladly pay for copies to be made and I'll have the copies. Those that are my property need to be returned or I need to agree to any she'd like to keep.

Come across an aggressive idiot while out at the zoo with my camera this morning
was quite happily watching the jaguar’s at Chester zoo with a couple of other photographers when a guy started ranting at me about how long I had been stood there, there was loads of space , anyone who’s been there will know the viewing area is a big open space
I didn’t get involved with him he was actually trying to provoke me looking for an argument or worse
I found out afterwards that there’s a hate campaign against photographers going on in the Chester zoo facebook group, I’m not in it so haven’t seen that
just don’t understand why some people are just looking for confrontation when in fact there’s no reason for it

I suppose I'd regret asking why?

Oh, and I suppose this hate doesn't extend to those using smartphones?

I don’t know why there’s that hate campaign, I don’t really go on Facebook much , really don’t understand why people taking pictures bothers some people and yes I doubt it extends to smart phone users
I’ll stick to going on weekdays I think when there’s less people

I don’t know why there’s that hate campaign,
From other sources, it looks like this is all about the insane taking over the asylum - otherwise known as "social media".

People, who would never otherwise meet anyone sharing their fantasies, come together and reinforce one another online. It seems to be a big gap in the Online Safety Bill that the carriers aren't obliged to shut down any threads that spread hate and send a report on the participants to a central police office. It seems that there's ever more evidence appearing that this contact between people with a tenuous group on reality is leading to real world incidents.

Yes agree with you, the guy was looking for an arguement with a photographer, I just happened to be there

Well, that coffee :coffee: was more than the indicated temperature. It was more fire of Hades territory.

*sits here with a stinging tongue* :$

Earworm.

But at least I now have Snowy White's Bird Of Paradise in my head instead of the Kinks Lola.

I know how you feel. We recently made a new friend, Patricia. Unfortunately I couldn't resist the Chris de Burgh song Patricia the stripper getting into my head.

What am I supposed to do when she yells out its name? :D

Even she doesn't have to do that...

We ALL know a song that'll get on yer nerves...

Did you know that the urge to sing the lion sleeps tonight,
Is just a-whim-away a-whim-away a-whim-away ?

I have an Amazon return.
Normally, I print off the label and drop it off at my local Tesco express, just down the road the next time I go shopping.

That option wasn't available, they sent me a Q code to scan, and no packaging required. just the original box
I don't use Q codes I don't understand Q codes, and my local Tesco was not an option.
The local-ish post office is the only place, for a few miles

I hope this isn't going to be the way of things.
What about people without smart phones?
And people that don't use their phones for email?

Is there no option for RM collection?

There was I didn't look that closely TBH as it means that I'll have to wait in for it.
I think they still need the Q code, it was that I was that p***ed me off, more than the shortish journey.

It looks like they have sent the Q code via email to my PC.
I'll print that off and stick it to box.

I cannot recall the exact details of one particular return that I had and I was (as usual) doing it via the Chat system.................well the CSC sent me a return method for one of those 'In post' type boxes IIRC(?) and when I realised I asked for a returns label and to be dropped off at a retail store or PO. The CSC did that and I was happy to drop it as needed.

So, via chat there is some flexibility that is perhaps not in the automated system???

Yes, waiting in all day is a downside although, for smaller packages, the postie tends to collect them so I know roughly what time he'll be round. Never had to scan a QR code though, just print a label.

To be fair when I returned a very large item it was collected in a van, and I was given a 2 hour window.

I've printed the Q code now, but if this becomes a regular occurrence I'll look into the chat thing (y)

Oooooooohhhhhhhh-kay so this has taken weeks to build up.

In late January I bought a Bluetooth keyboard from AliExpress. I'm adult enough to know the risks of it but this is how it developed....

Within 2 days it was shipped & tracking worked exactly as you'd expect. I followed the package across China and after a lot of steps it finally left PRC on Jan 31st.

On Feb 2nd it landed in the UK & passed through customs by Feb 4th.

Late on Feb 4th it was handed to Herpes/Nevri. Email arrived and offered to redirect it to the local parcel shop for local people - which I took up because there's no chance of the Herpes/Nevri chap(pesse) claiming that the address was unfindable.

Feb 5th is made its way to the delivery depot according to the tracking.... That was the last time it moved.

On the 10th I logged on to the Herpes/Nevri chatbot to be fobbed off. On the off chance I called in to the local parcel shop for local people to see it it had landed (wouldn't be the first time stuff arrived ved that was still at the depot according to tracking) - no dice. Lady at the local parcel shop for local people said she'd quiz the driver next day.

On 12th I tried again. Same fob off.

On 13th I decided to drop the CEO a mail. Turns out he's called Martijn de Lange. Ok, I've lived & worked in Flanders & can read & write Flemish reasonably well, so I shall send the mail in Flemish perhaps increasing my chances of him seeing it himself...

On 14th a reply from his PA asking me to repeat in English followed an hour later by a phone call from a male with an obvious Dutch/Flemish accent claiming to be Martijn himself (he must have finished sorting out all of the shortcomings of Herpes/Nevri) telling me that they'd request the depot did a thorough search for the missing parcel but it'd take up to 48 hours to look. I've seen the depot, it's a little over 8m square. One floor.

On 16th at 0938 a reply from the chatbot. "Soz, no parcel to be found"
At 1015 "Martijn" called "Soz, no parcel to be found"
At least it's consistent.
At 1105 an email. Your Herpes/Nevri parcel will be delivered today. Checked tracking still no movement from 0542 on Feb 6th.
At 1305 the lovely lady at the local parcel for local people called to tell me that my parcel had landed.
I picked it up at 1705. Checked the tracking and the whole journey had been rewritten to make it look like it'd been handed to Herpes/Nevri on 15th.

This morning email from Herpes/Nevri. "Fill in out customer satisfaction survey"

I'd always thought Herpes/Nevri were the lowest of the low but this interaction but this reveals that they're even worse than even I'd suspected.

Anyway it made it 99.5% of the way from China to me in a week then an arthritic snail on mogadon could have comfortably out-paced the last 0.5% of the trip

I hope it was a significant saving over the bluetooth keyboard and mouse I bought off Amazon for 20 quid with next day delivery.
