WAMT....what annoyed me today!

WAMT?
Royal Mail.
I was expecting a parcel, today, I filled out the "if I'm not in" thing, telling them where to leave it if I wasn't.
I received a conformation email a few minutes later ...

I got an email an hour ago, telling me there was no one in, and they'll try again tomorrow.
I was in, and no one rang the bell, I had this before and actually caught the postie tap tap tapping on the glass pane.
I have a large note there, asking them to ring the bell, and he said I didn't see it.
FFS! Epic fail!

I've tried something similar in the past, that didn't work either.
No card through the door either, my best guess is that they didn't have it with them...

WAMT Idiot drivers and deep water! Note:- vehicles with inflated tyres float on water and do NOT grip the tarmac when driven at high speed! However, watching the expression on their faces as they waltzed along the newly appeared Norfolk Broads, should be in the WCMUT section!

I hope it was a significant saving over the bluetooth keyboard and mouse I bought off Amazon for 20 quid with next day delivery.
Ultra portable - identical device on Amazon is >£50. From AliExpress <£15. The issue isn't AliExpress, it's Herpes who Amazon often use around here anyway.

The Amazon account compromised phone call (from a "local" number) asking me to press 1 for more info. Bye bye!

It's not the inflation, but rather that the water can't move out of the way fast enough, and so forms a lubricious layer between tyre and road surface.
It's the cars that float, once that it is deep enough. Door seals are quite good, for a short while!!!

WAMT is 2 different sets of roadworks.

First one finishes about 50 yards before a set of pedestrian crossing lights, so the queue that's been waiting can get held by the pedestrian lights and backs up into the narrow part. At which point the lights change and the traffic going the other way can't go anywhere because the narrow part is blocked.

Second one can be approached from at least 3 directions and all 3 have diversion signs. Which send to to one of the other approaches. Which have Road Closed signs and the diversion send you to... You get the picture! Ended up using a smaller road which isn't being used as a diversion route because it can't really support 2 way traffic and is flooded to about a 9" depth for a couple of stretches.

Laffing here welcome to my world got two sets of road works on my way to work and the gas people have decided to do more imbetween them. Think Ill have to find a new route

We've got 600+ new houses being built at the back of the village, so the powers that be are building mini chicanes and mini (flat painted) roundabouts on the access road. The Formula 1 addicts love the mini chicanes and the rest of us just ignore the painted circles!!!

There's thousands (literally) of new houses just built a couple of miles from this village. The increase in trafic and the way it's managed is strongly 'encouraging' me to move, possibly to another country.

Don't get me started,
2,500 homes being built on the outskirts of MK.
The land actually belongs to Aylesbury vale.
There are no hospitals, drs or any other form of essential infrastructure included.
Of course MK hospital is closer than the Aylesbury one, Aylesbury will of course be getting the "council tax"
And they will be using all our facilities.

Had that in Didcot over the last decade, it sits on the district border and the next district dumped several thousand houses in Harwell on the other side to avoid upsetting the voters in the various market towns.

Every service from GP's, schools, vets traffic etc has struggled since.

I don't wonder that folks are volunteering to go on spacecraft! Perhaps Ben Fogle will be visiting me, somewhere in "The Wild" sometime soon. When we moved into our house, we were told that there would be no new building near us as it was surrounded by "Green Belt" land. What a difference twenty years has made - from peas and grass to Persimmons Sh***. They can't even keep the bricks the same shade, or put them in line, one on top of the other. Snagging lists that go on and on and on and ................... Mostly filled with retired folks from big cities, selling their back to back terrace houses for a small fortune, buying a new country detached and a BMW and still having change! Last time I phoned the doctor for an appointment, I was No 47 in the queue!

We've been struggling for years with the continual building of houses,
Which the developers claim a large percentage of them are "affordable housing"
( a condition of granting, at sometime rather dodgy planning permission)
No one is actually sure which planet they are on, certainly not this one :(

It does seem rather endemic. The traditional way of dealing with recession is building yourself out of it, with the circular flow of investment money flows around and around and all is good. The trouble is public services no longer keep pace with the created demand. There are no longer enough schools, doctors, hospitals, public transport, roads etc. With new labour entering into jobs and paying taxes all this can be paid for - but too many of us old folk survive and demand pensions and health care. Too many jobs are gig economy or low paid and instead of contributing, they drain further resources.

Oh and the country seems flooded with significant apathy. No one wants to do anything but want paying top pound for it. We were going to get a train to the airport but decided that it was too risky and to drive instead. I waited three weeks for an appointment with a doctor and was only seen that quickly as I was prepared to go to a different surgery.

I could go on but won’t trouble you further with this.

FWIW it's not just the UK suffering this. We did a long circular tour of France a couple of years back, and many of the more interesting towns and cities had huge housing estates around them. La Rochelle seemed to have endless suburbs before getting to the centre, and similar development elsewhere too. Medical cover is often a problem in very rural areas, and if we want a doctor then we'll need to travel into Autun around 20-25km away from our French house.

I'd drive that here, if I could get a quick appointment, but its either wait 3 weeks IF you can actually get to book appointment.
It's no wonder the A&E gets crowded with minor ailments.
At least some local pharmacies, can now issue antibiotics for some ailments.
I don't know if that's a good thing or not TBH.

I'm not sure that an appointment would be quick, but it's the nearest A&E equivalent.

I visited Manchester last weekend and was annoyed by the poor driving. Tailgating seems to be very popular but I have never seen it as bad as in Manchester. My relatives who live there also confirm that driving standards are poor. I returned on a Sunday morning so it was great to see the M6 so lightly loaded. However, there was still the odd car driving at 60mph in lane 3 of the 4 lanes and forcing others to change from lane 1 to lane 4 to overtake. Overtaking on the inside seems very common now irrespective of lane hoggers.

WAMT is the "cashless" society. It's all fine and dandy as long as there are no problems with the card system but when it goes down and people have no cash on them, it's chaos! Luckily, I had enough folding on me to cover our party's bill but there was a large queue of other punters who may well still be waiting!

Not as if it's a small concern trying to dodge taxes either (not that cash based businesses are like that, anyway!) - large farm shop with café/restaurant attached.

I agree.

There will always be a need for an alternative to digital money transfers. There is no way to gurarantee that the network will always be available in a particular place at a particular time.

Just done our weekly 'big shop' at Morrisons.
When somebody is aimlessly wandering, whilst on their phone, I should be legal to just shove them out of the way.

As for the mother and teenager wrestling across the aisle in Aldi this evening there were several thoughts going through my mind...

And those who, when they meet a friend, immediately forget there is anyone else in the shop and block an aisle with their trolleys while they have a chat.

To be fair, that's exactly what we did. Sold our mid-terraced house in West London, and moved to Wiltshire to be closer to our son. Bought a bungalow in a very small town (it's a village really), and paid off the car. I was born in the UK, so were my parents, my father fought in WW2, I did my time in the army, and I worked bloody hard to get what I've got, so I can wherever I like, as can you..... I find your attitude very insulting.

Maybe you should have bought the whole village if you're so anti living in a community.

I am not insulting you or anybody else, merely stating facts. We did exactly the same as you and we have similar backgrounds! My gripe is that we were told that the "green belt" would not be built on, so were misinformed.

I wanted to live in a small rural community, as promised by the estate agent! They tell lies you know! :)

The thing is that over the decades any search results in regard to buying property can become out of date as new neighbourhood & district plans are revised, based on government guidelines & instructions.

The one complaint that always amused me, folks who buy a property next to/near a livestock farm or a church........and then complain about the smell or noise as appropriate. Some I gather even go as far as making formal complaints about the 'nuisance'.

Those that buy a house by a pub that operates as a music venue, then get the music license revoked. :(

It's a fact of life that music licences are abused.

In our village, one pub aquired a music licence and for a few years was much valued by the residents.

Along came a new licencee and the pub got noisier. Then the pub was sold again and things went from bad to worse, with a number of seriously undesireable outsiders using the pub. Eventually, the licence was revoked because virtually the whole of the central part of the village were utterly fed up with it. By coincidence, our next door neighbour at the time was the licencing sergeant. His comment on the various licencees was supremely ripe but boiled down to "there's none so deaf as them as will not listen".

Ah! I forgot to include pubs & akin hostelries in my 'unaccounted for ' issues!

Of course it is. I bow to your greater wisdom, understanding and insight into all matters. Lets just revoke all licenses now and the world will be a much better place.

Perhaps you should add a small signature block to your postings.

Something along the lines of "you must never disagree with me because, if you do, I'll just write nasty silly replies".

Normally I treat your replies respectfully, but in this case I gave your generalisation all the respect it appeared to deserve.

You might also view this as a polite reaction to the invalidation of something that, perhaps, I might feel strongly about. Writing my first thoughts would probably have got me a ban.

It's possible that you misunderstood what I wrote.

When I wrote that "It's a fact of life that music licences are abused.", I was passing on an opinion, which I have formed from personal experience and from the advice of both police officers and council officials. This is that, when a music licence is granted, sensible conditions are generally made within the licence. However, the site operators seldom want to spend the money or make the effort, to ensure that sound levels and times are adhered to, so that even when the conditions meet the expectations of neighbours, the practice is quite different.

It is also my observation that councils seldom perform proper tests unless an outside expert is called in by the complainants and presents evidence that the licence is not being adhered to. When that happens, council staff have been known to "discover" the misbehaviour.
