WAMT....what annoyed me today!

A screw in one of the Leaf's tyres. Irreparable too, so new tyre needed. Could have been worse though - a full set for that costs about the same as a corner on mine!

I remember having to replace the rears on my M135, Jesus that was a shock!! :$ I drove in "sport" a lot less often after that!!

30 odd years ago, a Metzeler rear was close to £200 and that was twice a year!

I had my 3rd one on Tuesday. Made me very ill. Not had any reactions to them before.

WAMT ? Seeing that a beautiful, local old Grade 2 listed building (hotel) has been "morphed" into something resembling a Las Vegas theme restaurant. Western outfits, American cars, flags and signing, apparently in total ignorance of its Grade 2 listed status. Appalling! Planning permission?????

Grade 2 generally means you cant change key aspects like windows/roof materials/porches/colour. Other than american cars parked outside the image doesnt look like anything else has been done that is detrimental to the building.

Id far rather it was used and profitable so that the building can be maintained than it be an out of business hotel and left to deteriorate.

We have an old fire station in our town centre, it was empty for decades. Som people were up in arms when it was turned into a restaurant.

The pics in my first link show how it was. They have now added rough timber cladding, a "western" style sign, uplighters and American flags:-

A pal of mine who works for BT, says that they cannot even attach external wiring. They have fixed all manner of chill units, signage, lighting (and associated wiring) etc. I have no problems with it being used as described in any planning permission application that is approved. I'm fairly sure that this hasn't even been submitted! Most of the exterior is now also painted grey!

Grade 2 listing is not an iron clad guarantee. against change. See here: https://www.heritage-house.org/stuf...nce/grade-2-listed-building-restrictions.html

All decisions about permitted changes are in the hands of the conservation officer of the appropriate council or other authority. What one will deny, another may support. Looking at the before and after pictures on line, the changes seem to be improvements.

The combi boiler threw up an error message about a month ago as the water pressure had dropped through the floor and all the usual repair companies were booked up for weeks in advance. It's rate of dumping water into the drive is increasing and I've had to recharge it maybe half a dozen times or more this morning. Someone is coming to fix it on Wednesday. Thank gosh.

I doubt that they had any of the necessary "permissions" or planning permission either. As quoted in your link:-

"What can you do to a Grade 2 Listed Building?

Well - in theory, if you get permission, anything. It is getting permission that is the key.

What is 'doing'? The law states that a 'Material Change to a Listed Building' must be approved. So, a material change taken literally, means that if you remove a paint covering and replace it with a different colour, it's a 'material change'. If you take off lime render and put cement render on, it is a 'material change'. If you take off plaster internally, and re-plaster with gypsum, it is a 'material change'. If you change a reed thatch for a long straw thatch, it's a material change. In essence, if you change anything, either internally, or externally, you are doing something that needs permission and you are committing a criminal offence if you don't get approval from the LA conservation officer first."

Rude people, had a nice relaxing day at the zoo watching the Lemurs and got some nice shots hopefully
The were a couple of ladies watching a lemur close by and I was patiently waiting my turn so I could take a couple of shots when a woman with 2 children behind who announced that everyone had enough time and she was going to take pictures with her children she tried to barge in front of me but I stood my ground took my pictures then the lemurs wandered off , if she had asked nicely I would have stepped back to let her in , she ended up with nothing :p

And what a lovely lesson in manners and consideration she has given to her children :headbang:

Yes exactly she told her children to walk in front of me as well :(
As you mentioned, if she had engaged with you rather than acting so badly there would have been a better outcome & lesson for her children!

But no, the impatience and entitlement 'attitude' her actions.......!

I sometimes despair at the disappearance of common courtesy with 'please & thank you'. Oh, that is not limited to the younger generation.....I have rude behaviour from all generations:(

PS on a positive note ~ yesterday we visited the nearby farm type shop. The route home took us down a narrow path.....there was a younger chap coming the other way and his immediate action was to backtrack and wait for us to clear the way. We both thanked him for his courtesy with smiles exchanged:)

Some interactions maintain one's faith in human nature.

yes if she had just politely asked I would have moved away instead she ended up with nothing
everyone else was great though and I spent as long chatting with people as taking photos :)

If they didn't, the rotating aerofoil would be distributing brown stuff by now. That it is not, suggests they do have permission.

A few years ago the Flying Scotsman was at the Bluebell railway in Sussex. I had found a spot on the platform and was on one knee, patiently waiting as the train came in, when a man and his son barged in front with their video camera. All they got was my right hand over the lens as I politely told him how damned rude he was. His teenage son looked rather embarrassed.

Some people just have no thought for others, they have no awareness what is going on around them as they are so wrapped up in themselves.....

Mild annoyance (and very much a first world problem!) - visited 3 Lidls on the way home this afternoon and none of them had the dried figs and dates we want. 2 of them did at least have the shelf labels so it's just a case of poor timing on our part.

There doesnt appear to be any listed buildings at that location.

Chocolate limes seem to have disappeared from the local shops. They used to be in the supermarkets and Pound shops etc but I haven't seen them for months now. Anyone else seen them?

On a similar line, I used to like the ASDA version of chocolate Hob Nobs but they seem to have vanished too. I usually chat to the checkout lady whilst bagging up so I asked one and she said they're buying different stuff now like garibaldi's and they don't sell many. Seems like someone in the buying dept needs moving on.

One last supermarket complaint... Please branch managers... when you move everything around why not remember to change the overhead aisle banners too so that customers can find stuff?

What annoyed me today... that'll be the phone call telling me I have diabetes. Not because of the news, but because I knew two years ago my blood sugars were high and didn't do a damn thing to fix it, so now I'm diabetic and having to stick to a low carb diet for the forseeable.

I was diagnosed prediabetic about 5 or 6 years ago, I made a few small changes to my diet but nothing drastic and have managed to keep my bloods under control. Fortunately, we have quite a good health centre and I get regular blood tests and eye and foot screenings. The biggest change was taking early retirement as I was a pastry chef and that really didn't help.

Yep, THAT is what I should've done. But I didn't, I kept putting it off. I ****ed around and found out.

The price increases in UK pallet delivery/collection services. The prices have almost tripled in less than six months.

I live on the Isle of Wight and it's going to be cheaper for me to drive to the Isle of Skye to pick up a wheelchair than it will cost for me to have a courier collect/deliver it. That includes the costs of staying overnight and a ferry. :headbang:

It might still be possible to control with some small changes.
I now take more exercise nothing fancy I spend 1-2 hours most days walking.
Although I'm certainly not thin I have lost around 2 and a half stone over the last 5-6 years.
And I now take a lot more notice of what I eat, cook most meals from scratch so I know what's in them, you would or at least I was shocked at the hidden sugars in some preprepared foods.
Like I said I'm lucky we have a good health centre with a dedicated doctor for diabetes, who treats you like an adult and gives you the facts, it's up to you if you want to listen and with regular screenings I can see the results good or bad.

Yeah, I'm just in a funk and angry at myself for not doing what I knew I needed to.

Right now, I've started the meds, I've changed what I eat, particularly the carby things, stopped buying all the high sugar sweet stuff that I was only eating because I was, realistically, a bit bored.
I'm committed to losing weight so I can try to get it under dietary control only, but I'd love to get it into remission which, I believe, is something that is within my sphere of control, it'll just take a while.

Just a cyclist.

To get out on to the main road I have to pull out at an often busy T junction and sometimes I just have to wait for the light to change either up or down the road and sometimes more than once. Today I could have got straight out but there was one cyclist coming towards me to my right so I waited and he turned left... and by that time my chance had gone.

It really does annoy me when motorists turn without indicating and this cyclist annoyed me too.

Don't get me started on cyclists, it isn't good for my blood pressure.....

Agree cyclist’s can be frustrating especially in town , I was aproaching a zebra crossing the other day in the car it looked all clear couldn’t see any pedestrians anywhere then a cyclist shot across at speed
in town they are a nightmare but I find out of town the ones I come across are more careful and aware

In town? Jeez they're a real pain on narrow winding country lanes when you can't safely overtake them, and they're struggling up hill. Just pull over and let the traffic through. When I did my HGV I was taught to pull over after if I was holding up a long line of traffic. They're always very keen to say we are meant to "share" the roads, maybe they could think about that once in a while.....

A few weeks ago I was stuck in a huge line of slow moving traffic on the A35, only to find it was a pair of cyclists generating a tailback over a mile....

yes it can be frustrating when they hold up traffic and agree they should move over to let traffic past it drives me nuts when they are two abreast that is really frustrating
they do have a right to use the road as well as everyone else though

Indeed they do, I just wish they'd be intelligent about it. We don't get the issues with the local horse riders, they pull over as soon as they can, safely.

WAMT was an old woman who had stopped about 10' back from the STOP line at a set of traffic lights, behind the buried sensor wires. After 3 cycles of the lights not changing, she went through at full red, allowing the car in front of me to trigger the sensor for the lights to work as intended. Just hoping there's CCTV at that junction and that it was looking the right way at the time, although I doubt anything would be done anyway.

There does seem to be rather a lot of people that don't know what they are for, or are just unaware of their existence :(

The thing about roads and pavements is that they are shared resources.

This is far beyond the comprehension of a tiny minority, who cause problems for the majority. :headbang:
