WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Question...

Are you tired of workmen making appointments and not turning up and not even having the decency to call to say they're not coming?

I am.
My "workman" is my brother, he's never failed to turn up here, or to any other job (y)

Buying the wrong antifreeze / coolant for my bikes from Halfords bought 10 litres of their own brand blue antifreeze then realised that bike coolant needs to be silicate free as the water pump seals on bikes can be damaged apparently by the silicate additives in car antifreeze
at least I realised before I changed it
ordered the right stuff from Amazon it will be here tomorrow :)

He didn't turn up so I rang him and he said he'd come "this afternoon." He didn't but his partner did... So I can relax a bit :D

WAM 2 days ago. Was in the kitchen and went to get back into my chair. Put my hand on the counter to steady myself but my hand slipped and down I went. Had to slide myself on my stomach into the lounge and to the stairs before using the bannister to pull myself up onto the first stair then the second whilst Mrs F brought my chair round. My hip and elbow still hurt, tiled floors are bloody hard!

Golly. Glad you didn't hurt yourself more. Lucky you didn't really.

My workman yesterday moved a fence to give me more room down the drive and when he'd finished he very kindly swept up. That was nice of him. When he'd gone I went out and walked the length of the drive and must have picked up two dozen assorted nails and screws. They'd have shredded my tyres.

Had a lovely slow walk round today, only to get home to a crap letter off the hospital saying they think my cancer has spread to my lungs. Have to think if it is true weather to have the horrible treatment or just plod on, you could say I'm well peeved off but as Ned Kelly said... Such is Life.

Sorry to read this Dave. We all have our beliefs and I believe that being in someone's thoughts and prayers can help and if not it certainly can't hurt so hopefully with your blessing a Christian and a Buddhist will be thinking of and including you.

I have known people who were ready to go. I'm not. So I'd very likely take the treatment but this is something that we all need to think about.

Best wishes to you and yours Dave.

Thanks Alan and I do not mind the Christian and Buddhist thoughts, as I read a lot about Buddhists and have many books.

as above sad to hear this news dave

as for me...traffic is back to its terrible normal.. after the bliss of riding practically empty roads yesterday, every man and his dog are out in their cars nightmare getting out of my road this afternoon...not helped by hundreds of bloody traffic cones that have sprouted up this morning

Today I unknowingly offended someone on the road. I can't say why as I never saw him until he pulled alongside me at traffic lights and stared. When the lights changed he pulled ahead and made a point of cutting me up. What was the offence I wonder? My choice of car is the most I can come up with.

May his brain become even more addled and may he suffer the agony of a bitter and disappointing long life :D

Well, it did annoy me at the time that I'd posted in the wrong thread so I suppose technically it was still sort of marginally relevant, and annoying.

It does.

I expect all the PayPal comms turn it into a link to the site and they haven’t thought to turn it off for these ‘warnings’.

WAMT? Toothache, less than a week after my dental check up result was "No problems!"

One of my neighbours, sitting on his mobility scooter at the end of his drive, and playing really loud rock music while potential buyers were arriving to view another neighbours house :naughty:When very politely asked to turn it down he immediately got aggressive and actually cranked up the volume :argue: What a complete pimmelkopf :headbang:

Why on earth would anyone do that? What a rotten trick.

Having to move another post, because of a bloody donut posting in the wrong thread again :D

That's really cheered me up! :P

TBH, the guy with the scooter is universally disliked in our cul-de-sac and has been reported to his landlord several times for anti-social behaviour. He was given a written warning last time so once this complaint gets dealt with he may find himself re-housed.

To top it off, he called the police and accused my friendly neighbour of threatening him. The police are also going to contact the landlord (y)

As we were walking down a narrow access road a flat bed truck came up behind us so we got over as far as we could to the left without having to hack our way into the bushes and I beckoned him pass but he stopped so we assumed he'd come as far as he wanted, maybe a council truck come to cut the bushes or something. He then set off again but refused to pass. Just up the way the road widens and we assumed he wanted to pull in or tun around but no. the game continued and then he started revving his engine. It was at this point I'd had enough and luckily his passenger side window was opened so I asked him what he wanted, I may have been rather blunt. He laughed and drove forward. So, this game of cat and mouse was deliberate and he did all this with a little boy in the passenger seat, WTF?

Mrs WW was quite shaken. The other day we were deliberately cut up on the road (see above) and she now believes we're not safe driving or walking. Hopefully she'll calm down.

It's difficult to understand car envy road rage and just about impossible to understand why this brainless guy today would act as he did with what is presumably his son in the cab. Just WTF?

I know how you feel I’ve had a van tailgating me in my Yaris so closely that he was literally a couple of inches away I found it frightening to be honest as it was obvious he was trying to intimidate me and I didn’t know what to do
I slowed down hoping he would pass but just carried on doing it luckily he turned off

At the very least I would note his reg plate and report him. It is entirely possible he has done this before to other people?

It is IMO another type of Anti social behaviour and potentially more dangerous action, at that!

If I am driving appropriately for the road conditions and someone tailgates me I take the view 'that is/will be their problem' if something happens. In other words I will not be intimidated.

I used to suffer a lot of road rage in my various sports cars but things have been relatively calm for me for years now as I have an old MX5 and a Getz hatch back although some do seem to get triggered by a 21 year old MX5 (which is I suppose worth about £1,000) especially when I have the top down. My latest buy is an Evoque and although they seem very common even in this relatively deprived area it seems to be triggering some people like my Porsche and Lotus's did.

I should have took his number plate and the company name. I had a camera with me too. I just didn't think.

It's upsetting enough for me but my wife gave up a great career and a fantastic home to come to the UK and she's very well educated and cultured and I'm just so disappointed, disgusted and embarrassed at the state of the country and quite a few of the people in it. After what she's been used to my area and a lot of the people and how they act and behave is just an utter culture shock. When did anti social behaviour and intimidating others become so common and such consequence free fun for so many people? There are just so many people these days who seem to be actively looking for and enjoying intimidation and/or confrontation and of course you can't have anything remotely nice or out of the ordinary without triggering jealousy and aggression from so many people.

I take the view that there is a safe distance depending on the speed.
If I am following someone then I can control the distance so that it is safe.
If someone is following me too closely then I can control the speed so that it is safe.
I often pull over and let them go, if it is possible.

This is something I've done in the past. On one occasion they passed, pulled in in front of me and made a show of reversing into me. Thankfully they didn't go through with it. The car that inspired this insane behaviour was a Lotus Elan SE. That car attracted so much trouble but strangely although the Elise that replaced it also attracted the brain addled it wasn't to the same extent.

I'd never have guessed that an Evoque would attract trouble as they're so common Jeremy Clarkson said they'd overtaken hydrogen as the most common element in the universe.

What annoys me is when I leave what I think is a good distance from the car in front some(insert your favourite expletive here) overtakes me and pulls in, making the gap to the now'new' car in front, IMO, too small and I have to back off.

As someone who drives frequently on single track roads with passing places, pulling over to let other pass is just normal. I and many others also do this on double track roads in rural areas where overtaking might be difficult, due to theroad lay out, It just seems a good thing to do. I know many such roads very well but there are some that other drivers know far better than me.

Just a little annoyed...

Mrs WW was really looking forward to her first driving lesson with BSM tomorrow but she received a message today that it's cancelled. No other explanation. The earliest date they've offered her another is 8th November. Personally I think that's unacceptable. I'd get my money back (she booked 10 lessons in advance) and find a local company but she doesn't want to start again so will stick with them. Poor service though, IMO.

Why stick with them if she hasn't even had one lesson? She would be far better off with a local person who is also more likely to be more experienced too.
