WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Pigeons.
Target practice on my car.
I've never seen as many Pigeons as we have got this year.

Nearly every plum I have picked from our tree has a little pink worm/caterpillar in. Never had this problem before. Looks as though it is going to be a decent crop as well.

£180 worth of parking tickets......

A car park that has been free after 6:30pm for the last 25 years, now isn't
3 visits x £60
read the sign...stupid..
My immediate thoughts were:-

When did it change and was it pre-announced?

Is the signage clear & unambiguous?

What type of carpark ~ private land or council?

In other words, could there be grounds for making a mitigation claim

Dunno when it changed, it was free this time last year.
Dunno about the signage either, didn't read it..:headbang:
I had to search a bit to find the new charges, most of the top results like trip advisor and your parking space still show free after 6:30pm, but Parkopedia and the onsite business premises websites read differently.
Its Fistral beach, a council car park but run by contractors, you don't have to look very hard to find a cesspit of complaints about it tbf.
Anyway, its paid, no grounds for a claim I wouldn't have thought unless the signage is not clear, I wouldn't know I'm 350 miles away back home now, took it on the chin, moved on.
I imagine Initial Parking are pulling in some eye watering sums though...

Surely common sense dictates that you would actually read the signage just to make sure that the parking was still free, it only takes 30 seconds.
What is written on third-party websites is irrelevant.

We've had a bumper crop of apples this year, but 80% have been lost to birds and/or insects.

Ah! I am none too surprised that they charge for all hours......that AFAIK is one busy place. Not one I have ever been to....I dislike crowds at the beach!

One/couple comments I read was that it took a while to get to the pay machine and once there the car owners were putting in the time they were at the machine, not the time they parked!

As the recording is by ANPR cameras, I surmise there is a grace period to enter and park but not the 21 minutes one person spoke to find the pay machine.

Now, that did surprise me i.e. thinking they could put the "I arrived at the pay machine 21 mins after parking and used that time, not when I actually parked.. "

There is now..ie a grace period...because these cowboys were charging people who drove round the car park and left having been unable to find a space.

WAMT. A cyclist riding along and on the phone.

"Twit" seems too mild a word.

WAMT and indeed every time I see it.

The flagrant misuse of disabled bay parking spaces especially at shops

Tell me about. An additional gripe is those WITH blue badges who park so that they're covering half of the hatched area between spaces!

A lot of the problems we have here on the island (on the beaches) is the selfish BB holders who abuse these spaces by not using them as a parking space, but using them as a picnic spot. They don't even get out of their car - they just sit there enjoying the view ignoring those that need the larger space so they can unload their wheelchair.

As for non badge holders using them, then I think a VERY heavy fine and a six month driving ban should be the minimum punishment. A repeat offence at least a year's ban . . .

Depending on the disability, I don't see that as a problem.

Where there is a problem, is the ineffectiveness (or complete lack) of enforcement by many councils. Four years ago, the Local Government Association said that the process was too complicated and expensive. However, it seems to me that spot checking of users by the existing parking enforcement officers could be stepped up, albeit that people desperate to find fault would immediately cry "abuse of power". :headbang:

Simple answer: They are not parked - it is classed as 'waiting' and it is stopping those who want to be able to 'park' from being able to do so. They are designated parking spaces, not viewpoints for the selfish and inconsiderate.

not viewpoints for the selfish and inconsiderate.
What if the driver has a serious problem getting himself or a passenger out of the vehicle. Surely, they should be allowed to take some pleasure from visiting the spot if that's the only way they can?

Of course it's parked. They just haven't got out.
So if they got out and sat on the grass you'd be happy?

If they're not getting out, then there is absolutely no reason that they need a disabled spot - they can use an ordinary one.

That's quite correct, if one is open.

Have you checked to see if such was the case in the instances you have seen?

I take your point but there are plenty with disabilities that don't need extra room to exit the vehicle. Where should they park?

The point is that, if the disabled person isn't getting out of the car, they don't need a disabled space.

Of course I have. They just choose to use a disabled bay (even though they don't need to) because they have a BB.

Anywhere they please, but if they don't need the extra space (or need to get closer to whatever is nearby) why should those that do need space/access suffer?

This has to be the biggest abuse of them all I think.
It seems the whole system gets abused.
Is it still possible to " borrow" a blue badge?

People do as the photo is on the reverse although the badge number contains the year of the holder's birth which can give a clue.
As I understand it the Blue Badge 'rules' to a degree are quite prescriptive and one flagrant abuse that does, if found out, get stamped on is ~ able bodied driver only in the car displaying their disabled relative's BB when "shopping for my disabled relative..... therefore I am allowed to use the badge.....". A sub script of that I have observed is the disabled person(?) left in the car whilst the driver goes shopping,~ though is this a grey area usage???

PS I don't have need for a BB and hope my posts don't come across as righteous indignation! But I see such BB abuse as "very wrong" and needs greater enforcement with more than a slap on the wrist :headbang:. It is plain & simply inconsiderate and socially irresponsible:(

Slouching and sliding forwards is very dangerous, especially when the elasticity has gone from one side.

One word - and I'm not allowed to post it!!! Borat is as close as I dare go...

Had to get to the local Nightingale Hospital for some eye tests which left me unable to drive for a few hours so couldn't take myself there, besides which, the closest parking (even for disabled drivers...) is 1/4 mile away from the site. Ordered a cab for 1/2 hour before the appointment and took the cab company's advice to get it 20 minutes earlier. Would have been ideal had the cab turned up on time... Eventually arrived at the time I would have booked it. For some reason, the driver then went the long way at 45 (in a 30 limit) and got me there just in time. Just wish there was a real alternative to this company but they've bought up almost all the other local firms so have a virtual monopoly. Busses are a joke here too - timetable seems to be a vague hint and for 2 people (not really caring what time they get there...) a cab is as cheap as the bus.

The point is that, if the disabled person isn't getting out of the car, they don't need a disabled space.

These days I think you can get a disability badge for things like Autism which may not lead to any obvious physical impairment.

Anyway. An ex of mine worked for the council and signed all the blue badges and had a habit of looking at them in cars and saying "That's fake. That's not my signature." In those days and maybe also now for all I know vast numbers of the badges were fake.

Doesn't negate the fact that, if the badge holder isn't getting out of the car, they don't need that space.

Don't know how many are fake but there is a large market in stolen badges.

Very annoyed the goth music festival in Leeds we was going to go to in a couple of weeks has been cancelled apparently due to logistical problems for bands to travel into the UK, several of the bands are German

I'm confident some would come up with a reason and of course these days you can not question the vulnerable even if they're self identified.
