The 'I dont give a damn what anyone else thinks, im really looking forward to Christmas...thread'

Yay, our lounge Christmas three is up and ready. I'm getting in the mood now.

2nd generous dose of brandy now poured over the Christmas pudding & cake. Another 2 or 3 applications to go during the next 2 weeks before applying a good 1/2"+ of marzipan all round & on top, then a thick layer of icing.

We buy 1 or 2 puds every year, then stick em in the cupboard & use ones from previous years. Always at least 1 year old, but usually 2 years.

Sounds similar to my mum's cake except she made hers in September and dosed it for three months

Aye, my Gran & Mum used to make their own months before, but it's shop-bought for us these days.

Int' days before microwaves, I remember the puds wrapped in cloth & steamed for.............hours? (also remember the `search` for the silver sixpence which was always included)

The pies from Lidl did not last long. They just had to be eaten. The sale by date is not very long. Need some more next Thursday. Mad our own large one and eat that IN TWO DAYS....

Although we haven't bought any mince pies (yet!) this year, we might have a few packs of Lidl's Mini Butter and Marzipan Stollen... Eating them as fast as I can to avoid them passing their best before date. Frozen some as well but run out of freezer space (and no room for another freezer!)

She looks sad in most of her pictures, thats not @Cg_Girl T at all.

I was referring back to JP's post and correcting him on the star if the film "It" - the original It girl. (Certainly not comparing T. to Clara Bow in terms of reputation!!!)

Haha I do don't I

All these suggestions Are way better than @BRASH one, Hattie Jacques :bat:

His could be the closest though :D

When Mrs Nod's customers ask me if I do Yoga, my usual response is that the closest I come to that is sitting in the corner painted gold pretending to be the Happy Buddha!

Well going from a nice peaceful christmas with just the borrowadogs, it's now gone manic, dogs and one kid arriving xmas eve and staying till Sunday
other duaghter and boyfriend coming for the day on boxing day.
Guess I'll have to get sorted, now :)

Oh yes, oh yes. I thought it would be rude not to crack open the Costco mince pies I got yesterday. I know it is still before nine but wow they are amazing. They'll loose points on presentation but flavour and crumble they really work.

The tree went up at the weekend, and we were assisted by a very enthusiastic 2 year old with some very definite ideas about where the tinsel should go :D

Burp?

Haha i bet!.. i still secretly adjust my tree when the small human has gone to bed

Going to put ours up possibly tomorrow

Who's this I see in the "I love christmas thread"?! You're a traitor in the rebel alliance! Go and sit in a corner and think about what you've done. :police:

:coat:

our tree is still in the garden, not sure when we are bringing it in, the distructions suggest you bring it into a cooler temp room a couple of days before moving it to the main room... who knows I have never had a living xmas tree before so its all a learning curve.

Ho Ho Ho.......... :sneaky:

We received a gift just like that from ours. She rarely uses her iPad (s***box!) but spent most of last night coughing up a furball and we think the exertion was too much so she had to leave us the present. No sign of a cough today.

She would very swiftly discover what it's like to be an outdoor cat!

Poor little thing! She's never messed or wetted anywhere in the house other than in her litter box and she only uses that in extremis, far preferring to be an outdoor crapper/peeer but she gets locked in overnight to protect any little friends she wants to eat so the outdoor option wasn't available.

I ended up having 4 Costco mince pies today. Yum yum oink oink

Coming home to a fully decorated home was wonderful. Loving the extra trees in the house.

So, which are the best mince pies in terms of value for money, JP?

Ah value for money. Oops not sure that was one of the parameters we are testing. I'll have to study the pie charts on Wednesday when I'm back in the Westminster office.

Easy enough to do - mark the pies out of 100 then divide their score by their cost per pie. Obviously, you can leave bad ones out of the ranking - a 10p pie that tastes revolting is worse value than a delicious £1 pie. Any ranking will do, much as I like mince pies, I CBA to eat my way through the competition just to discover which ones to buy for enjoyment! Would make them myself but we have a better use for mincemeat!

Lol I know how to rank it, just don't think we recorded the price paid ;)

Ah! OK then, which are the best in your opinion. Been looking for the review I saw a while back but it's probably been recycled twice by now!

So far it's between Waitrose and Costco but too many say it's not a mince pie for Costco although it is yummy. Tomorrow we have Fortnum and Mason, next week Tesco and Island and an independent bakers.

Being in retail its a nightmare at the moment bit once I finish I love Christmas. Hopefully finish a week today until the new year.

??? Surely it's the best time of year? Cash registers taking lots of money and all that.

Harrods and Lidl were top 2 in an independent blind test, fortnum and mason and waitrose ranked poor.
If waitrose ranked poor, than it can only get better yippee I can't wait.

Yeah great for that but its not much fun. I've been working day and night with no days off for about a month now. I'm not much of a worker. Lost half a stone though ready to pile back on.

Quite like the sainsbury ones from the bakery shelves rather than the boxed ones. More research necessary! Any not in commercialmas packaging.
