The GAS confessional - all who suffer are welcome. :)

Saw this tripod on eBay and as I've always been a Gitzo fan and never even knew that this existed, I just had to have it to level up my table tripod game! Pairs well with a half price Acratech video ball head I picked up a while ago too as it's not the usual Gitzo colours. Hoping it will work well in bird hides etc. paired with a gimbal head.

I have that Manfrotto one but did need something a bit beefier for a Z9 with long lenses!

I think I use the Manfrotto once, bought it for my first trip to Japan and never used it again since.

The ball joint on the right one is amazing. The tactile feel of the resistance is weirdly additive. It can hold all my bodies and lenses too.

This one is strong with me...
I think I have a problem with GAS. For last 5-10 years maybe, I kept buying lens - not to keep apparently - I buy one, try it out, find it ok, then want to try another, so sell this one and buy another one. In total, slowly I keep losing money this way as I rarely sell it for same money, but that is not the problem (well, it is but smaller than main one;)). I think I take pleasure from searching a good offer/bargain, then clicking buy, then waiting for courier to arrive. Once I have it and mount it on camera I feel like I lose interest and automatically start thinking of another lens...
Fact is, I keep searching for a lens that either perfectly fits my need (travel lens most of the time), or find a lens that gives me some kind of effect/result that looks amazing compared to others, then I keep it. In reality, I always have max 2-4 lens, which is fine as I'm not a pro photographer, but once I have them, I start looking at other lens, search for one that makes some interesting effect, has character you would say, cool bokeh, or simply look amazing :)
I need help.

My current GAS is actually keyboards....i was in HK and randomly in a store I tried a Nuphy keyboard and I loved the feel and sound from it. So I bought the same switches online and put them in my home keyboard.

Then I bought a set of keycaps, and then a 65% keyboard....at first I thought about taking it to work and use it there....except it will end up with a final build value of £300. A lot of money to leave at work where some random might think it is work provided and "borrow" it.

So then bought another one for £100 instead for work that on video, sounds and feel just as nice.

I need help. After starting a film camera collection of non-working bodies, I'm in the process of testing cameras bought on Fleabay. Watch a vlog ... and I'm hunting through a selection of possible purchases. Two on their way at the moment. Ricoh KR-10 Super 35mm SLR Film Camera With Rikenon f/2 50mm Lens and a Cosina CSM with a Cosinon Auto 55mm lens.
I now have a line up of 5 cameras to test with 5 already home and dry.

I'm in keyboards too, for over 10 years, I've had and built over 100 keyboards, loads of keycaps sets, switches, modding etc
Most expensive one, around £2K.
HUGE rabbit hole.

Current GAS sufferer for a Nikon Z8. Having used the Zf for a while now it’s amazing how sluggish it makes my Z7ii feel!

what do you use those table tripods for?

Travel.

I find myself to be quite good at taking long exposures when I am out and about. For the longest time I would find a flat surface anywhere and get the angle by placing whatever I have in my bag/pocket, be it the lens cap, wallet, folded up bits of paper.

To take it 1 step up, I use these but the purpose of them is being small, and short. Because if the legs extends too much, then I can't place it on some of the surfaces I find, like top of a bin or the corner post on a barrier.

I also have one of these (They are like £20 in HK). The phone holder clamp detaches from the legs and it is a 1/8 inch screw that can go at the bottom of the camera with a small ball joint.

arean't they too short for most long exposure photos? Like landscapes etc - would it catch too much ground?
I don't know much about those, rarely used tripods, but for travel I keep planning to get a semi size one, like 1m tall, so I could do long exp.
Unless it is quite easy to use those like you have?
I was once thinking of gettiong that gorrila one, with multi-joints, you know...

I shoot cities....so photos like these where I rest my camera up on random surfaces.

I use a Pod for support against or on pretty much anything. It's basically a small bean bag with a tripod screw on it. I carry it empty (to save space) then fill it with pretty much anything at the destination.

Just expanded my collection of Pentax 645 --> 120mm macro f4.
Trying to remember how to take macro shots :D but loving the lens so far...
Now to fund the next (45mm or 45mm tube or pentax tilt n shift adapter) I need to sell the older lenses... not many bites atm in amsterdam though

I need to STOP looking at ebay and acquiring more film cameras. Just purchased a Mamiya NC1000 with a 50mm f1.7 lens and a Ricoh XR-2s with a Rikenon 50mm f1.7 lens.

I have 3 Sony (2 full frame, 1 apsc) camera and numerous lenses. I find myself wanting my first foray into Nikon with the ZF and 40mm. My concern is the af speed, obviously I’ve been spoiled with the speed of Sony af. Will the zf be quick enough for street ?

Zf owner. Previously with Sony. Yep the AF is perfectly good enough.

Back in 2023 I bought a mint in box Fujifilm S5Pro, but It came a Nikon F-mount body cap instead of a Fujifilm F-mount one.... Since then I've been keeping a eye out for one and last week finally spotted one for sale on Ebay. The only problem was it was a US seller...... well, I bit the bullet and ordered it...It's finally been delivered and I'm more than happy with it as it looks to be in brand new condition and in my opinion was worth paying the postage cost...

ZF owner , What's your thoughts on this as I have an itch that may need scratching :)

Not in the actual model number, no...... ;)

Plus actually, I've (we've) just bought one of those Canon Selphy printer things....... Plus paper/ink kit so that's 3 things really :ROFLMAO:
I (we've) got one of that Selphy printers.
My wife writes a wee journal of our Motorhome trips so now she can print photos to stick into said journal

Firstly I mostly shoot manual focus with the Zf. That’s because it’s brilliant at it. I’ve shot the 35mm Z. 40mm Z and Tamron 28-75 G2 on it. I’ve used the subject detection AF with excellent results. I’ve not shot the Nikon or any Sony side by side. But having been used to Sony I didn’t feel I was missing anything.
Very happy with Nikon all round.
There are times I miss the Sony 50mm f1.2….but not enough to adapt it to my Zf. It’d just be too unwieldy.
I settled for Voigtländer 50mm f2 APO and Voigtlander 40mm f1.2. Both in Z mount. Superb.

Well, we got married last month. So I'm doing a book for the bestest photos, but we were going to get all the others that we like, plus the ones from guests printed and in a box with the cards etc to look through if we felt like it, rather than scrolling through a slideshow on the PC.

I thought I'd try this printer instead and use it for little things like you do.

Congratulations! Sounds like a great plan

I bought one a few years ago and as someone who doesn’t like home printing, I think it is fine for the occasional print.

Congratulations!

Congrats on your marriage Lee. to keep the little lady happy it only takes two word "yes dear" ;) That is what i have ben doing for the past 53 years.

OK back to the heading. I have had a manfrotto monopod for a long time but it is heavy, so just ordererd a carbon fibre one froma chinese company for £36 which should do me

I had a three section Manfotto monopod, finished in silver and that was heavy! I replaced it with a two section Benbo monopod to which I add a Manfrotto RC2 head adapter or a 494 ball head. The whole is longer than the Manfrotto stick but quite a lot lighter.
