The GAS confessional - all who suffer are welcome. :)

@Nikon photographer Love the 18-70mm lens. Always take it on holiday with me. It's lightweight and takes a very decent image.
I regret selling it, but it went with my D70, which was bought as a kit, bought it in 2004, luckily I keep all the boxes, it turned up today from Japan, you really can't tell it from a new one.

I used it on my D90 when I upgraded, it always gave great results, let's hope it's just as good on my FujiFilm S5 pro

Sitting at home is dangerous, surfing website after website. I have just purchased the Nikon Z 24-120 f4 S to go on my ZF. Oops.

Doing a bit of web surfing at work and or some reason my finger twitched and I have bought a mint boxed D700 this morning, quickly followed by a mint boxed 50mm F1.8G all for the bargain price of £320.

I have been shooting with Fuji since selling all the Nikon kit many years ago, but I recently had a look at some shots from my last D700 and there is just something about them that the Fuji's can't do....

I have never shot with a flash before, I usually shoot wildlife and Motorsport.

So when these two pop up for equivalent combined total of about £75 with all accessories, manuals etc. I decided to get them. My local photography group has a speedlite workshop coming up which is great as I have literally no idea what I'm doing past ETTL.

I really have no need for them. Still a bargain is a bargain and the GAS hits hard

Oh and they work with the EOS 650 SLR I picked up for $13 last month (a new battery and a roll of Kodak gold pretty much tripled it's value!)

Browsing the web yesterday looking at lenses for the D700, and one caught my eye at Park cameras, a mint boxed 85mm f/1.8 G for £169, it arrives today.

I think that is me done now, unless I can find a mint short zoom as a carry about.

That's a fine piece of glass, congratulations!

How short do you want your Zoom? The Tamron SP 15-30 Di VC is an Incredibly sharp lens, Check out the 85mm and then imagine the SP is far sharper IMO

The 24-120 f/4 is a decent walkabout lens with enough extra reach to be worth it over the 24-70 f/2.8 (unless you NEED the extra speed!)

Thanks for the recommendations guys, I'm thinking something like a 28-105 or 35-70 f/2.8 if I can find a good one, the 24-70 f/2.8 is a great lens, had one on my D3 when they first came out, but as the D700 will be an occasional use camera I don't want to invest too heavily as my Fuji XT4/5 are my main cameras.

I went for the 28-105mm AF-D and found it to be a very useful lens, especially as a lightish weight travel lens.... I recently picked up a second one... Got both of them from Japanese sellers on ebay and both in "like new" condition.

Why a second one? We have just returned from a holiday in Thailand and I left a 28-105mm and a 70-210mm over there at our house over there so I don't need to take lenses with me when we fly out.

I have the 28-105 and use it a lot and thought of buying another one, I managed to talk myself out of it with the why does I need two argument. I still want another so maybe its only a temporary sensibility. :)

The Nikon 28-105 is great. Sharp and quite poppy. Also takes great IR pictures. The lens hood looks a bit silly.

Another very nice older lens is the 28-80 f/3.3-5.6 AF G kit lens (just remember the 3.3). It feels cheap, it is cheap but it takes really nice pictures and weighs very little. On a heavy camera like a D700 it might be a good choice.

That’s a fabulous price, I’ve actually just bought an immaculate one for £200 myself for my D700…….arriving tomorrow.

I really fancy the Nikkor 105mm f2 DC next.

I am apparently having a gas free time... it's quite pleasant. Anybody else not hankering after something new?

Digitally, I've not bought anything since my X100f in early 2024! Sony lens wise is spring 2022! I'm not sure if I bought the A7Riii in early '22 or '23 - I think it was '23.

Funnily enough, I was just chatting about this half an hour ago with my dad :ROFLMAO:

I did buy and return several Yashica Mat TLR's last summer before settling on an actual "as described" 124g :)

I've been at it again and bought a lovely Nikon 35-105 f/3.5-4.5 AFD for a bargain £40 off a mate and blown the rest of the budget on an MB-D10 grip, that's me sorted now.

Bought myself a 2025 ASUS ProArt PA32QCV 32" 6K display to match with my 2019 MBP 16" Core i7 that I will replace with a 2026 Mac mini M5 when it comes out next year before WWDC 2026 in June.

It costs <16% of a 2019 Apple Pro Display 32" 6K display.

I am very happy with the purchase.

I thought I was having a break from my GAS but I spotted a Manfrotto tripod bag on the floor of a charity shop over the weekend for £4.99 and thought not a bad price for a padded tripod bag. Picked it up to have a look and realised it had a tripod in it, bought it without even looking inside.
Ended up having a carbon fibre Manfrotto 190cx3 with a 322rc2 pistol grip head and plate inside both pretty much brand new. Saved so much I splashed out for a Three legged thing Airhed Pro to go on top as I don't get on with the pistol grip heads.
Think it is now my best light weight tripod and by far my GAS deal of the year.

Right place, right time :)

Another one bought in to restore, this one is pretty dirty, until I take the top cover off, I'm not sure if the prism will need to be replaced, the base plate has been engraved, luckily I have a few spare ones, the light seals are toast, so they'll get replaced Screenshot_20251114_174801_eBay.jpgScreenshot_20251114_174944_eBay.jpgScreenshot_20251114_174926_eBay.jpgScreenshot_20251114_174857_eBay.jpgScreenshot_20251114_174814_eBay.jpg

It has been many days since my last confession.

This week I purchased a BlackRapid sling strap.

That's send me down the rabbit-hole of looking at their back-pack strap.

My first camera when I was about 15, cost my a lot of my paper round money back then. About £100 from Boots

Just joined this thread, I have had 10 days off and its rained everyday, so the lao top has been on a lot of the time.
I started thinking about SLR cameras a couple of months ago, now I have one, I also got on for my wife.
Lenses well, the one I got came with a lens, but there is another lens arriving very soon, three rolls of film are also now sitting in a camera bag awaiting on one of us to get to it and load it up.
First time I have been buying for ages, not a lot of money, less that £200, but still its not in my bank any more.

You could consider it saving a lot of money in not buying very recent mirrorless stuff.

I know, the prices are what my mother would call (not for the likes of us) and she was right.
But I have a Nikon FG20 with a couple of lenses it came with one and I went and bought a 50mm prime.
My wife got her camera Minolta Dynax 5000si and a couple of lenses as well, all for less than £200
So we spent £100 each to get us on the film path

I recently bought a 'double sling strap' with the intention of carrying my Nikon Z9 with 800pf on one side and 500 f4 and FTZ adapter on the other.

Of course, I have now decided that changing lens during wildlife shoots is too time consuming (as well as risking dust/dirt ingress on the sensor)..........so this morning, I have ordered a Nikon Z6iii and Nikon Z100-400 to make a 2 system set-up.

The 500 f4 prime will be kept for 'low light' shoots, whilst carrying both other systems on the double strap will cover pretty much all my needs in normal conditions.

It's been 12 months since my last GAS outbreak, but I just can't find a cure!

I have a battered Nikon FM which works perfectly in every way. So, why am I on the lookout for a n FM2 or FM2n? What's the point?

Been GAS free for nearly 8 years until last Saturday.
Just bought a used Canon EF300 2.8L IS II reduced by over £600 to £2100.
Couldn’t resist at that price, described as “excellent “ condition, but on arrival after giving it a very close inspection, it’s mint!!!
Sadly it hasn’t stopped raining since so haven’t been able to test it properly!!

It's been a while...

I've traded in my Fuji X-T20 for an X-H1.

Odd trade I know, but my reasoning is I wanted a slightly bigger grip and I've really gotten into night and low light photography so wanted IBIS.

Well the Nikon bug has well and truly bitten since buying the D700, I am now the proud owner of a ZF courtesy of a member on here, this has been quickly followed by a Viltrox EVO 85mm f/2 from AliExpress for a cracking £159.00 shipped.

I'm probably going to move my Fuji X-T4 kit on and invest in some nice Nikon glass.

That is some price for the Evo 85mm f2; cheapest I’ve seen is £250 after discount.

The low light upgrade continues with a D5. I was looking at the D6 for the fancy focus system but couldn't see a nice one for reasonable money. Spent £860 for a D5 from Wex in well used condition- rubbers need regluing and 200K on the shutter but very pleased with the overall condition. I tried out the D850's similar focus system in low light over new year and was really impressed.

Good morning. I hope all is safe and well with you in the aftermath / ongoing effects of the storm. Are there any New year confessions out there?

Got a £50 gift voucher from work so put it towards a Cotton Carrier G3 harness to carry my Z8/Z9 and my longer glass (I.e. the 180-600). Will be quite interested to how much easier it is to carry this setup about becomes.

Just picked up a 'used' OM TG7 from Amazon (doesn't look like it's been out of the box) for £320.
GAS, yeah ok, but I have a pool shoot coming up in April and really don't want to wreck either my X-T5 or R6ii and underwater images are never going to be brilliant so man maths tells me that spending 300 notes to avoid potentially destroying £1.5k+ worth of kit is worth while.

It's currently charging. No idea what it's actually going to be like to shoot with or to edit images (but it does shot raw).
