Stat for all, especially Tom.

Just seen someone post up our record under Hughes:

All Matches:

You boys don't know how lucky you are!

What's going on with City?? Ajax are playing some nice tidy football but I expected more from the noisy neighbours

What's going on with Citeh? Nothing out of the ordinary, is it? The press here have built them up to be absolute world beaters, when they are quite clearly a long way from that accolade. They have a good squad, but a poor team. Plus, Ajax have been expected to just roll over and whither in the presence of Citeh. Why on earth would they do that?

Slightly disappointed to have thrown away a 2-0 lead but would have been content with a single point before the game.

Cazorla was out of sorts and Walcott was brilliant.

I'm absolutely baffled why Bould yet again left it until the dying minutes to make substitutions in the CL, and didn't take Jack off at all. It's just asking for injury problems to Jack as well as running the others into the ground.

Glad to see Vermaelan shifted to the left to at least address the problem of Santos but we were still vulnerable and Podolski looked like he might blow a gasket at times about what was going on behind him.

Was supposed to going to Parkhead tonight to watch Celtic v Barcelona but in the end I couldn't make it. Shame as it would have been a good night regardless of the score.

But let me guess, you'll be in the boozer by 9pm ;)

You couldnt make it up!!!

Spurs could face prosecution because of their fans 'Yid' chants and banners (i.e. being racist) from.... The Society of Black Lawyers!!!! So no racism there then!! I mean, if I was a lawyer I am sure they would let me join being white!!!

So do you think the 'Yid' chants are ok?

I can't believe it's taken this long to address the use of that particular word by, and in reference to, Tottenham Hotspur. It's absolutely disgusting that it gets used so freely, sometimes without knowledge of its deeply offensive meaning.

Edit having read the article: It's pretty damning to notice that the official statement released by Spurs says "y-word" rather than saying it themselves. Clearly if they don't feel comfortable writing it themselves, they shouldn't tolerate its use in any context.

Where did I say it was ok? My point is that a group have said/implied its racist to act like Spurs fans have, yet exclude certain groups from their membership! Pot - Kettle - Black (excuse the pun!).

I didn't say you did just asked the question. Don't know anything about the group in question or why they were set up so I can't really comment, but I applaud what they've said.

If a group or organisation such as the police, or the FA were to raise this then fair enough, but for a group who discriminate on colour to do this is a bit much imo.

What a night for that tough lad Tony Watts!

Bloody auto text, should have said 'young' lad :bonk:

It's not a case of discriminating on colour Simon, that's way over simplifying things. People from ethnic minorities face different issues in these professions so they form these groups to provide any support that may be needed, not dissimilar to the Black Police Association.

Whether they should be commenting on issues such as above is a different matter but you could argue that they have a unique perspective when it comes to racial issues.

Anyway, this is supposed to be a thread about football.

Yep - superb result for Celtic (although home results have never been the issue) against Barcelona. Peeved I never went now.

This is a strange one as it is a quite recent term (last 50 years or so) that it has become prevalent in the 'English' language but has been used by Jewish 'yiddish' speakers for ages. Even the 'Yiddish' use 'yid' as a form of 'mate, pal, buddy' type saying.......who knows where this will go but I feel our language does cause us problems when we try and integrate 'foreign words without knowing what the consequences might be.

As for the Spurs fans...it was they who started the Yid army for their own fans & team so hardly derogative and offensive. IMO of course.

Apart from the fact that Yiddish is a language and there is no such thing as a Yiddish person, Jews do not use "Yid" as a form of "mate", "buddy" or anything else of that ilk.

I have a mate who does, although it’s pronounced slightly differently to when he does the “yid army” chants. When I asked him about it he said that “yid” wasn’t offensive in itself and used between friends was a respectful term but depended on context can also be derogatory, a little bit like the n-word.

Exactly. Next he'll be saying they come from a country called Yidland :cuckoo:

Fabs, Joe....I refer to the above in bold.

Do some research on the word Yid before you dismiss my posting.

As a side note to this name calling where do we draw the line?

Frogs, Erics, Convicts, Ruskies, Poms, Taffs, Jocks, Micks, Tykes, Scousers, Geordies, Mancs, Brummies.......(see how stupid it is getting)

99.99% of these terms are and were terms of endearment for use in generalising as it far easier to say 'taff' than 'that bloke (or woman for the equality brigade among us) from Wales'.

It is only since 'PC' and the strangeness of the abolishment of the Englishman, Irishman, Scotsman jokes that we, as a society, feel any sort of nick name is offensive.

As for the Irish...they tell the same gags but use their counties to swap for countries and the poor Kerryman comes off worse.

As I have always advocated and it was probably the first real lesson learned at school, because of the nature of human groups, the saying that should always be adhered ... 'Sticks & stones......

Actually thats the exact advice I would give to you based on the fact you think that "yiddish" is a type of person

Where did I say yiddish was a person?...you are trying to add context to something that isn't there.

Right here

the yiddish?

What are the 'Yiddish' exactly?
Read back a sentence from that quote and you will see it refers to 'yiddish' speakers....... that is why it is kept inside quotes.

Good grief Joe, you really do like clutching at straws......now be a good boy and go and do some reading.

I don't need to do any research Tom, I'm Jewish and know exactly what it means thank you

As for 'PC', 'Yid' was offensive to Jews long before Political Correctness became vogue. Just because a minority decide to use it themselves, doesn't change that fact. I think yo'll find that most black people despair at the use of the 'N' word amongst a small percentage of black youth.

OK Marc, tell me how 'Yid' is offensive, tell me how it is derogatory.

There has to be reasoning behind it other wise any thing any one says could be deemed offensive. Show me instances where the word/term 'Yid' means that a jew is of lower importance or standing. Next time Shane Warne calls me a Pom - should I cry foul and call the police?

What happens with matters (not specifically the term 'Yid') like this is that because a nickname generalises all in that group, a small group that find it offensive (still trying to find out why it is offensive) push it so hard that it becomes a soundboard for oppression.

edit...so you do admit that some jews actually use the term against your previous answer that none do?

So do you think the N word in itself is inoffensive to black people? 'Yid' has historically been used in exactly the same way so yes, it is offensive and it's not a small group that finds it offensive, it's pretty much everyone other than a small group!

As for the edit, seriously? What I meant was quite obvious but all you can do is try to pick holes?

Actually Marc, I am trying to have a mature discussion about it, trying to find out where there are produced facts about name calling. I haven't once said any term is acceptable, my question is how are they offensive and derogatory which no one seems to be able to answer.

As for picking holes, we all have faults with the way we type out our thoughts but is there a rule for one persons context being taken outside the box and not another's?

Please have a read of my questions again and see if you can give me some answers as I, like many others, would loved to learn more.
