You couldnt make it up!!!
Spurs could face prosecution because of their fans 'Yid' chants and banners (i.e. being racist) from.... The Society of Black Lawyers!!!! So no racism there then!! I mean, if I was a lawyer I am sure they would let me join being white!!!

So do you think the 'Yid' chants are ok?
Where did I say it was ok? My point is that a group have said/implied its racist to act like Spurs fans have, yet exclude certain groups from their membership! Pot - Kettle - Black (excuse the pun!).
I didn't say you did just asked the question. Don't know anything about the group in question or why they were set up so I can't really comment, but I applaud what they've said.

If a group or organisation such as the police, or the FA were to raise this then fair enough, but for a group who discriminate on colour to do this is a bit much imo.

This is a strange one as it is a quite recent term (last 50 years or so) that it has become prevalent in the 'English' language but has been used by Jewish 'yiddish' speakers for ages. Even the 'Yiddish' use 'yid' as a form of 'mate, pal, buddy' type saying.......who knows where this will go but I feel our language does cause us problems when we try and integrate 'foreign words without knowing what the consequences might be.
As for the Spurs fans...it was they who started the Yid army for their own fans & team so hardly derogative and offensive. IMO of course.
Jews do not use "Yid" as a form of "mate", "buddy" or anything else of that ilk.
Apart from the fact that Yiddish is a language and there is no such thing as a Yiddish person, Jews do not use "Yid" as a form of "mate", "buddy" or anything else of that ilk.

Exactly. Next he'll be saying they come from a country called Yidland![]()
I have a mate who does, although its pronounced slightly differently to when he does the yid army chants. When I asked him about it he said that yid wasnt offensive in itself and used between friends was a respectful term but depended on context can also be derogatory, a little bit like the n-word.
Do some research on the word Yid before you dismiss my posting.
Actually thats the exact advice I would give to you based on the fact you think that "yiddish" is a type of person
Where did I say yiddish was a person?...you are trying to add context to something that isn't there.
Even the 'Yiddish' use 'yid' as a form of 'mate, pal, buddy' type saying
Read back a sentence from that quote and you will see it refers to 'yiddish' speakers....... that is why it is kept inside quotes.Right here
the yiddish?
What are the 'Yiddish' exactly?

Fabs, Joe....I refer to the above in bold.

As a side note to this name calling where do we draw the line?
Frogs, Erics, Convicts, Ruskies, Poms, Taffs, Jocks, Micks, Tykes, Scousers, Geordies, Mancs, Brummies.......(see how stupid it is getting)
99.99% of these terms are and were terms of endearment for use in generalising as it far easier to say 'taff' than 'that bloke (or woman for the equality brigade among us) from Wales'.
It is only since 'PC' and the strangeness of the abolishment of the Englishman, Irishman, Scotsman jokes that we, as a society, feel any sort of nick name is offensive.
As for the Irish...they tell the same gags but use their counties to swap for countries and the poor Kerryman comes off worse.
As I have always advocated and it was probably the first real lesson learned at school, because of the nature of human groups, the saying that should always be adhered ... 'Sticks & stones......
I don't need to do any research Tom, I'm Jewish and know exactly what it means thank you
As for 'PC', 'Yid' was offensive to Jews long before Political Correctness became vogue. Just because a minority decide to use it themselves, doesn't change that fact. I think yo'll find that most black people despair at the use of the 'N' word amongst a small percentage of black youth.
edit...so you do admit that some jews actually use the term against your previous answer that none do?
OK Marc, tell me how 'Yid' is offensive, tell me how it is derogatory.
There has to be reasoning behind it other wise any thing any one says could be deemed offensive. Show me instances where the word/term 'Yid' means that a jew is of lower importance or standing. Next time Shane Warne calls me a Pom - should I cry foul and call the police?
What happens with matters (not specifically the term 'Yid') like this is that because a nickname generalises all in that group, a small group that find it offensive (still trying to find out why it is offensive) push it so hard that it becomes a soundboard for oppression.

Any chance of the predictor table being updated, please?
So do you think the N word in itself is inoffensive to black people? 'Yid' has historically been used in exactly the same way so yes, it is offensive and it's not a small group that finds it offensive, it's pretty much everyone other than a small group!
As for the edit, seriously? What I meant was quite obvious but all you can do is try to pick holes?
