The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I think he is asking that, if you had to choose, would the compromises presented by a 27mm f2.8 on a changeable lens camera bother you enough to choose an X100v with its 23mm f2 lens instead…?

He mentioned one above so I made a jump...

I don't have any plans to get lenses for the Fuji right now, and never have bought lenses for their size. In fact, it've always done the opposite, always went for aperture wherever possible lol

Why should I or anyone else have to work around something if there's a better option available that doesn't involve additional work arounds?

Cost and size; that’s why. We’re not really discussing if one is better than the other - it’s whether the size of an X100V with its 23mm f2 lens is really worth the outlay vs an interchangeable lens setup that is the same size, a much lower cost, but a different lens setup (to get to the same size).

If you’re at a point on your photography journey where the differences those two lenses make is significant to you, then you’re either not bothered by cost so you’d get an X100V, or you’re not bothered by size so you’d get a Fuji body and the XF 23mm f2 lens (or the f1.4; either of which is much bigger than the 27mm f2.8)

However, in the current market, if both cost and size are more of a concern than the particular lens, it makes a lot more sense to get a Fuji body and something like the TTArtisan 27mm (or the Fuji XF 27mm - still cheaper than an X100S-V!)

Jamie, IMO that last sentence is just so condescending and wrong headed. Why should I or anyone else have to work around something if there's a better option available that doesn't involve additional work arounds? Don't answer that as after this post I'm done with this conversation as it's going nowhere. Comparing a 23mm f2 to a 27mm f2.8 should be pretty easy and obvious and shouldn't need post after post after post.

If you're used to the focal lengths then the difference between 35mm and 40mm (in FF) will be noticeable and the difference between f2 and f2.8 will also matter for light gathering and also if you want the shallowest of DoF too. I can see the difference in use between 28/35, 35/40, 40/50 and even 50/55mm and that's before we get into the implications for shutter speed and ISO and depth. If you can't see that these differences will matter to some people there's really nothing more to say, it's all been said and if you can't see it... you just don't get it ;)

I'm sorry, it was a bit of a crappy tone. I guess I was also frustrated that the conversation was just going on and on, and was trying to point out that it's not as big a deal as was being made out from either side.

I am personally dealing with a similar issue at the moment - I have a cheap manual 25mm 1.8 and it's by far my favourite lens. That's partly to do with the focal length, and partly because it has a noticeable vignette that I actually really like.

I'd like an autofocus version of it, preferably sealed, so been looking at the 23mm f2 and the 27mm. I've been testing by taping my zoom at those focal lengths and it just doesn't quite click with me - I definitely "see" in 25mm. So I do get it.

That said, I can work with either. I will likely pick up a 23mm and just get used to taking a step closer.

It's been quite a while since I last used the X-S10 and XF18mm together, so I will keep this with my GR3 and other lenses in my signature. As the X-T5 is back in it's box again.

This guy has been alluding me for a couple of days. Not today!

Focus isn't as sharp as I'd like; and still getting used to tweaking in Capture One. But overall pretty happy with these as a first attempt!

These images are actually from Good Friday but a combination of going on holiday the day after and general busy-ness has meant I have only finished going through them today. A few shots from the opening day of the 2023 British GT season at Oulton Park. All taken with my X-T4 and the Fuji 100-400mm lens.

Looks like you did pretty well with a completely unsuitable camera to me! I know Andrew Hall, who is a Fuji ambassador and shoots a lot of Motorsport has used a GFX to shoot at Sebring and Le Mans.

Quick question about white balance shift - Anyone know the difference between using WB shift to add blue vs just setting a cooler white balance?

Just done mine... No issues as usual (y)
Also just done updates for 16-55 and 100-400 all good :)

Note: 16-55 has two .DAT files. So if you haven`t done lenses before, read the how to ;) I had to, as it was a first for me.

Cracking shots, the 2nd one of the McLaren is fantastic, as the feel of a much more exotic location.

Oulton Park can look fairly tropical on one of its rare sunny days. I know the Lodge shot has been done to death but it is a lovely backdrop and unique to Oulton

Any recommendations on vintage lenses for a bit of cheap entertainment? I assume an M42 mount and associated lenses are best; but honestly found researching this a rabbit hole.

Also there doesn’t appear to be any converters in existence to put old Fujica X mounts to their modern versions; unless I’m searching for the wrong thing?

Both colour & mono versions lovely Dave. I need to practice some shots like this as I struggle to get the background black (or at least very dark)

Thank you Simon, just used a fast shutter speed to get it dark making it easier to edit for the BG.
