Jamie, IMO that last sentence is just so condescending and wrong headed. Why should I or anyone else have to work around something if there's a better option available that doesn't involve additional work arounds? Don't answer that as after this post I'm done with this conversation as it's going nowhere. Comparing a 23mm f2 to a 27mm f2.8 should be pretty easy and obvious and shouldn't need post after post after post.
If you're used to the focal lengths then the difference between 35mm and 40mm (in FF) will be noticeable and the difference between f2 and f2.8 will also matter for light gathering and also if you want the shallowest of DoF too. I can see the difference in use between 28/35, 35/40, 40/50 and even 50/55mm and that's before we get into the implications for shutter speed and ISO and depth. If you can't see that these differences will matter to some people there's really nothing more to say, it's all been said and if you can't see it... you just don't get it
