The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

So after having issues with the last Samyang 35 1.4 I had I looked at all the alternatives and came to the conclusion it was either buy the Zeiss 1.4 / 2.8 or another Samyang. Couldn't deal with the 2.8 so opted for another Samyang. This one seems to be worlds better than the one I had previously.

Really missed not having the 35 1.4 at the last wedding I shot though was very happy how the images came out.

As if, dealing with PayPal is so so slow and frustrating!!!
Don’t know if they still do this PP had me phone a number and call out a code number - a which point the dog barked and screwed the call up. It was a one-time shot and they made me wait over 2 weeks holding on to 2.5K I wanted to spend on my Canon 1d3 (2008 I think) - money laundering prevention they said - sticking my money away in an interest bearing account I say.

No. Dont mess around. Just buy the sony.
Big price difference. Doesn’t need to be exceptional AF, just ‘good enough’.

Rookies if you go for the D850 would this be your quickest camera change ever?!

Ha ha well I reckon Toby is in 2 minds.. I honestly think if the D850 had 2 SD slots he going that route and I wouldn't blame him.. My mate just got it and WOW didn't realise what a camera it was
Stilll wouldn’t solve my one camera system issue ;)

But after playing with my mate D850 today in real world out here in the Peak district with his Bull dog and landscape it was Amazing felt like a camera the IQ was awesome. If I wanted MP and AF I would deffo choose the D850 over the A7riii without a doubt

TBH I will prob get a extra £100 back as I got a good deal on my stuff
Aren’t you still in your 14 day return period anyway?

But you were loving your A7iii until your mate got rid of his, just worry about what you want rather than what others do mate (y).

Adapted ime isn't good enough. With Sony you have the option of adapted but native is where it needs to be to compete against dslr.
Most of the Wildlife I do is static, not bothered about BIF or owt like that ;)

Lol seriously! Didn’t you look at other bodies within Nikon system before moving to Sony? ;)
Are you going to get a Nikon D850?

TBH mate I still do love it a fantastic camera.. But I do get frustrated where the C buttons are.. The buttons on the nikon in correct places. The cropping of the MP images looks ace. And if I wanted to do it it best do it now with a profit what i paid for my lot..

I swear they could make a soap opera from your camera experiences!!

Good point I wonder if sigma 100-400mm is any good especially with mc-11
I tried it at Silverstone and would rate it as ‘ok’. OS isn’t great, build is pretty good. Difficult to give a good opinion on sharpness as I was trying to pan F1 cars at 1/50 ;)

There is also a sigma 100-400mm C which is smaller and lighter but f6.3 at long end
F5.6 vs f6.3 means didly squat with how good ISO performance of modern cameras is. Not sure how you’d get on with a tc though if you wanted one.

Honestly think he should have just stuck with the D750!

Nah if I of still had the D750 i would still want the D850.. TBH I am shock you not gone that route Id of done that for MP than having the A7riii

Yeah or should have kept his D500 as it would have got him that extra reach without having to buy long expensive glass like the Sony 100-400mm GM.

Similar market but in some respects completely different beasts. There's a lot of advantages for the Sony, for me the only advantage of the Nikon is the ergonomics/usability. EVF vs OVF is swings and roundabouts. I think the Sony is more camera for the money (build quality aside). Both stellar cameras though, top of the game.

Why would I want a D850?! You were not shocked I didn’t want one before so why the sudden change of opinion?!

Up to him mate, he seems impressed.

Yep. True! We all make our own life choices! But maybe should have tried it before buying the Sony gear as might have got some nice Nikon show offers!

you were saying you wanted faster AF and better MP the A7riii is certainly not a faster AF the D850 would of been

I be buying grey for the nikon as it wasn't £2500 at the show I know that...

Performance v overall system cost. I think you just want something new, grass is greener. Nothing wrong with change though.... knew you'd do it as soon as you stepped in the thread;)

If I already had a cupboard full of top lenses and the same money to spend on a body id go for the d850.

But I don’t want a D850, never have, never will. It does not interest me in the slightest so it’s irrelevant really!
