Simon's 52 for 2026

Good colours here and nice depth of field.

Week 5 - Rainy Day, and Tech "Framing"

No shortage of rainy days since the turn of the year here in South East Wales. It's being brave enough to go out in it and find the right shot that's the challenge. Here are a selection from today's rain fest down at a near deserted Barry Island.

The bandstand - I love this in mono - suits a dreary day, and for once, a lack of people obscuring the view beyond as it frames Whitmore Bay and Friar's Point beyond.

Promenade

These were about the only people on the whole promenade apart from me - fortunately the Western Shelter framed them nicely as I ran up behind them to take the shot.

Sea view

The footbridge over the descent to the promenade. Not as aesthetically pleasing as I had it in my mind. Have a mono version, but prefer this slightly boosted colour shot personally

Shelter from the rain, brilliant. I had a right walk around in that picture.!

Nice trio Simon. No2 floats my boat :)

I like your chosen shot a lot Simon, I think that I'd be going back and doing a "Pep Ventosa" treatment on it... :D

Good set Simon, #2 for me I think. Like the framing, maybe would have edited out the fella and bin on the RHS

Cheers Adam - I know what you mean, but I left him in as they were all together. But your suggestion(s) make sense

All great shots as always, I'm drawn more to the second one but only because of the umbrellas making it more "rainy", well done! :)

Thanks for your kind words Simon. Second one almost made it, but I faltered at the last minute  I think it was the symmetry and framing tech that swayed it for me.

Good spot with the first image :)

Yeppity yep - those work!

I wold tend to prefer the second image, as it has more to it, but I can see (I assume) why you've gone with the first one, as the exposure is better on your subject.
Thanks Tim. Yes, the first was deliberate, the second more of an afterthought as I ran to catch up with Mrs H!
