Simon's 52 for 2026

Nice!
The rust against the soft blue of the sky really pops.

Looks good to me. I do like the rust contrasting against the white paint.

Week 3 - Windows and Doors

Well it's been a grim old week - it's pretty much rained every day, and opportunities have been few and far between. Finally bit the bullet today and went out for an hour down to Barry Island.. A selection that hopefully fit the brief.

I like the stark orange of the Cardiff Bus livery against the grey, wet bleak day and for that', it's my chosen image ( I did think about getting a shot of a train, but a couple of you had beaten me to that).

Even in the depths of winter, on a mucky day, the arcades plod on

This was a cafe concession that closed at the end of last summer - thankfully it'll be opening soon as an (another) ice cream parlour, but at the moment it's shuttered facade reflects the mood of the day

The brightly coloured beach huts, always provide a splash of colour even on the dreariest day

Finally, a cheat.
This is a building in Cadoxton, Barry rather than the island. I was overtaken with the windows and door on the building.....BUT

There was a lamppost right in front, and a white car sticking its backside on the right. And the sky was just flat. I've removed the maps and car using AI and inserted some AI sky - don't hate me for it. It's not my chosen image, and more or an experiment than anything.

A good set! Your chosen image works well, and it's nice to have a splash of colour.

I think your AI adjustments went very well.

Great observation and a very interesting and colourful set. Nice job

Down at Barry, it's a shame Woodhams is no longer there. BUt I guess there wouldn't have been any kettles left by now (and I'm not sure even I could shoe horn in a derelict kettle for this theme).
I think I actually prefer the beach huts, but I guess there's no widows...

That works, like the beach huts as well- they look in good condition

Thanks Tim. Yes, Woodhams was gone before I came to this part of the world and got into photography m, so unlucky - would have been fabulous to photograph.

I like the beach huts too, but the lack of windows swayed it for me.

Thanks Keith! See above re the beach huts. They’re not that old, so still in decent nick and always a great photo opportunity. I was hoping to get some nice reflections off puddles but it was p*$$ing down and I wasn’t inclined to get too wet!

That's a great set Simon, especially considering the weather. I particularly like the one of the shuttered cafe.

Great set Simon! I particularly like the beach huts and the cafe.

Week 4 - Something broken

Spotted this trike whilst wandering down at Cardiff Bay this morning - minus handlebars and seat, and with two flat tyres. That'll take some riding!

Good eye Simon, a little hard to steer I think...

Yeah, that's going nowhere!
I like how the yellow/orange of the frame pops out as the sole strong colour.
