Simon's 52 for 2025

Week 49 - High Contrast

A shot of the Dow Corning works at Barry, shot into the sun. I can't decide which I prefer, but the colour version is just edging it for me because the haze in the more distant trees just makes it a little more atmospheric for me, and with mono being the more obvious choice, I've gone against the grain.

Unusually for me, I would have gone with the colour one too. When I first looked at it, I thought "Oh, sepia toned mono, interesting", then I saw the road sign. That made it especially interesting.

Great for the theme.

I think it fits nicely, the first is a lot more atmospheric for me and almost black and white!,

Thank you chaps! Much appreciated.

Yep - does the job well :)

The sepia effect works really well, gives great character to the picture
Thanks Allan it’s not a directly sepia effect. I’ve tone mapped it and then fiddled with the exposure and shadows a tad for full disclosure, the sepia colour came out as I
lifted the shadows from the .raw file.

Week 50 - Past

This week's offering on the theme of "Past" is a shot of the cove at Cwm yr Eglwys near Fishguard in Pembrokeshire. This tiny hamlet, now largely abandoned apart from seasonal holidaymakers is the site of the church of St Brynach, the ruins of which stand on the just behind the foreshore of the cove.

A nice bit of history Simon :)

Hey Simon, I'm liking both your High Contrast shots. I don't think I could choose one over the other.

Your Past shot is really well done.

Week 51 - Reflections in Glass

I love Christmas tree lights - this is one of our two trees reflected in the living room mirror at night, after everyone except me has gone to bed.

Merry Christmas everyone.
