A higher-res cam with IS and an AF tele (or a pro) might have performed better. - I am quite happy with the results. Next time, I shall take different equipment, hoping the squirrel
will come, too ... ---

When making IQ evaluations it can help to make comparisons. The NIKON pics were taken a few weeks before the Leica pics.

The APS-C D500 has 21MP. The NIKKOR was used with f 5 and 200mm FL (300 mm on APS-C) . The lens has IS.

A realistic comparison would have needed IS off, FL at 90 mm equiv. and AF off. With these settings, the NIKON pics would have looked very much like the Leica pics, I suppose.

To those who have (used) a voigtlander 35mm pancake (f2.5) or the voigtlander 35mm f1.2... how did you find them ?
Also, for macro and the leica, there is the 700 euro extension adaptor... is there an equivalent in a more reasonable price range, or that is the only one?

I have a 35mm f/2.5 Voigtlander in LTM mount, it has a rear element that goes a long way inside the camera body when mounted, even requires a deeper back cap than is normal for a LTM lens.
I have used it on various film cameras both LTM and M with an adapter and always thought it to be quite good, this was take on my M 240.

I don't have many digital photos taken on that lens as I have been playing with a Canon 35mm f/2 LTM which in colour renders a more film like feel to the colours and contrast.

My comments are on the early version of the lens, the M mount and later versions may be different.

Hi, it is used around € 130 on ebay.

A how-to :

I do not use it, because I only have M9s without live view ... ---

Trawling through my back catalogue and I found a scene that I'd used a different photo from at the time, but some of the other ones weren't so bad, so I tried a different crop and a fresh edit

@justpix If you mean the kipon ones, they look like a 10mm tube.
The Leica one is adjustable (turn it gives a lot of movement). Just wondering if anyone has come across one... I know leicas aren't normally used for macro work....
cheapest used one of the same leica macro adapter is around 500 euros...

Hi, I am referring to the LEITZ/Leica OUFRO adapter not kipon.

My how-to link above shows how it works.

Getting closer using an adapter does not make a macro-lens out of a normal lens, of course.

Another macro approach would be using the LEITZ Makro-Elmarit R 2,8/60 and an R-to-M adapter.

I have the Makro-Elmarit. It is a very good lens

P.S.: Adapter 14409 can only be used with the Macro-Elmar.

Hi, ... (SONY A7R2 - LEITZ Summicron 2/35 ; f 2) :

DSC02784-a7r2-L35c-2.jpg

I bought the A7R2 in 2015 and tried to use it with M mount lenses. In those days, we did not know why some M mount lenses performed well on the SONYs -
and many did not. Was it the diameter of the rear lens ? I measured this. Was it the distance of the rear lens from the sensor ? I measured this.
Was it the effect of aspheric lenses ? I bought two versions of a lens, one with, the other without aspheric lenses. ---

Now we know, it is the thickness of the sensor stack. - A body line-up with increasing sensor stack thickness: Leica SL, NIKON Z, PANASONIC L, CANON, SONY coming last.

Nowadays, I rarely use M mount lenses on SONY A7R2. Mainly with FLs I do not have native SONY lenses of, 12mm and 15mm.

But perhaps, Black Friday offers under 1K € of a NIKON Z6ii or a PANASONIC S5 might tempt me.

After a day of wandering around Amsterdam into Kamera Express, and the few other camera stores and not finding any lenses to look at (all in warehouses or out of stock) I ended up at the leica store yesterday and bought the macro extension. Pictures in the near future, but happy with the purchase, and will use it a lot plus experiment with the other lenses :)

I'll mark the 60mm r macro for future buy, along with zieus/voigtlander 35mm... ;)

@benc - how are you liking the m11?
I'm just in from my first proper street photography session in London. Loved it - it's so intuitive and I enjoy the experience of using it. I'm fully expecting it to be a system that I can grow into - I'll need to improve my focusing skills (zone and critical. I've come from the X100V and XPro, the M11 files and colours are different gravy
