good good, as it would also make things easier if i could trigger my camera myself when in spinning position, as that would make things easier id we both went for completly different angles:thumbs:

If we both go wireless we will have to check that they operate on different frequency's otherwise that could become a real issue :bonk:

 I hope you take a fire extinguishers with you when doing this matt........??

We have various fire suppression tools when doing this style of photography, however the most important one is our own brains and knowledge, and in this instance to avoid risk to the windmill only lasso style spins were done to ensure not hot material could come into contact with flammable surfaces

i like it Matt........ was a fun couple of hours, if bloody cold.

I thoroughly recommend the wireless hahnel triggers... about £50 off amazon...

Multi channel.. so no prob there....... you can set them to do single, multi, bulb, programme to do a x sec exp every y mins hours for time lapse... or as i do with star trails, set it to 99 x 30 secs with 0 sec delay...

Brilliant Matt like the VP

Thanks Dave, it was a bit of a hairy view point  a couple of sparks made contacts :help: I love that you can see them shooting all round the camera

It was a great couple of hours and good to finally meet  I look forward to the next time, I think I may have to order one of them  it looks very good :D

Just sorting out my POTD and for the first time I could have used my nifty :bonk: time to go get it back me thinks

Day 40 - Fly Guy

Fly fishing is not all about the cast and the catch, to be a true fly fisherman in my eye's you have to be able to tie your own flies too

With my POTD for today in the background you have my extensive ranger of materials for tying flies of all sort's and in the magnifying lens you see a finished shrimp fly in the vice

This was done with flash set to bounce of the ceiling with a black background in place :D

Hiya Matt, sorry I have missed a few days. Been without a laptop! Good to see you still going strong! The minimal landscape is one my faves, well done and keep it up!

I hope you've got it sorted now Michael, I hate being without a computer it can be a real PITA I'm please your still enjoying what your finding in my challenge, I have to say it's been a really great year for me so far :woot:

Seems to be sorted now, thanks. A whole month just to replace a hdd!!
So hopefully plain sailing now.

Great looking shot for today matt. Like it.

I'm pleased with it  I was a little harder to get than I anticipated :bonk: but that then makes the final result that more satisfying

A month is a very long time to replace a HDD I've had that done in under an hour in the past

Day 41 - Free Money

Well this afternoon I went looking for inspiration and while I've found some great locations for the future. The damp, dull and dank weather really didn't inspire me to take a photo, so I decided that it was time to change tack a little and while the weather remains so miserable to work on my other skills, 2011 was all about learning new skills and trying out different things this year in conjunction with that ethos I would also like to think that more so this year I shall be aiming to hone and perfect my skills with that in mind this evening I've borrowed some manual tubes and a 135mm prime to do my first macro of 2012 :D

I've not touched it yet, but I'll have a play with it in the next day or so, are you keeping the 135??

Yes its mine now, well once i have actually given him the money that is, i love that 135, so well built, great optics and sharp even wide open (if you get the focus right that is:D)

I know what you mean that macro was shot wide open and it worked a treat  I cannot wait to play with it some more as it allows you to stay a fair distance from the subject so makes lighting quite easy

Yea it does have a rather weird minimum focus distance, even with the tubes on:shrug:
It really is a lens for doing staged shots though as using it as a everyday lens im sure 90% of my photos would be oof

Day 42 - Sun...you've been missed :D

Please don't misinterpreted my title here, I love the snow and enjoy taking photo's of it, but this afternoon I was really pleased to see the sun for the first time in a week, I also thing this is the best photo that I've taken of the beacon :woot:

Some lovely shots. My favourite is probably the fishing flies. Would the two of the beacon make a nice duo?

Thanks I'm pleased your enjoying them :D indeed the two beacon ones would make a great duo and I may well get them framed up at some point :D

Do you actually go trout / salmon fishing Matt....?

Not as much as I used to I used to be out every weekend in the season but in the last could of years photography has become my main pass time with fishing becoming my secondary one

Matt

I'll tell you is good fun Matt, is carp fishing with a fly rod and cork ball.........!!! ;)

I prefer free lining a bit of floating crust for carp, there really is nothing like seeing a massive mouth coming up from underneath the surface  though I could image a good double on fly gear would be fun

We're not allowed to use floating baits in matches :(

I don't fish matches  strictly a pleasure angler me :D so there's not a lot I cannot use short of hand grenades, though there is a lot that I've never used :D

Day 43 - Getting the measure of the challenge

Well it seems that yesterdays sunset was not willing to stick around as today we've returned back to grey and miserable, it's day's like today that get you thinking about why you do a challenge like this  it makes you thing you must be :cuckoo: for evening taking it on, especially since this is my second year of this madness :tumbleweed:

It's amazing just how much dirt shows up under macro conditions

I totally agree. At least when you have days when you don't really feel inspired in Year 1, you drag yourself through so you can complete the challenge. In year 2 however I didn't feel quite as inspired to continue on the slow days. It is worth it though, in the end :)

I really like the Free Money shot too. Great macro work!

Tell me about it, it's 2:30am and I'm sat here having just worked my way though most of the challenge threads currently running in the 365 section, they are inspiration :D

But those days where you just thing why and I doing this thankfully have been few and far between so far this year, today wasn't a bad day, I've just been really loving landscapes recently and miss them when I don't get to do them

I'm pleased that you've enjoyed that macro money one I do love macro photography :D

Day 44 - Old Favourites

I can never resist a little bit of light trailing, I didn't have a lot of free time today to get my POTD but wanted to give my new wireless trigger it first work out, I'm pleased with it but need to get to know it more

Well last year I got my ultimate light trail in the form of double blue light trails, amazingly though till this evening I'd never got what you would thing the easier one to get, a double amber, well this evening I've got that trail now ticked of my list :D

What was nice was this one came from a location that means a lot to me, as it was the first location that I did a light trail back on 30th October 2009

Settings - f/22 - ISO100 - 80 Seconds - 17mm

Saw this on Flickr and really like it Matt!

Cheer's Ben, I'm very pleased with this one

Loving the light trail matt... Looks fantastic

Thanks Matt, it is the perfect time of the year for this particular location, the traffic peaks just as the decent light is ready :woot:

Been a few days sine I looked in your challenge Matt, Days 39, 40 and 44 stand out for me, particularly day 40 The detail, sharpness, DOF and colours...superb shot!

Glad to hear you're sorting yourself with some gear so you don't get scorched when doing the spinning......Would make for one heck of a light painting capturing you running around in flames:D but not something we want to happen!;)
