It's the mood of the clouds that makes the pic for me Matt.....Much as it is beautiful to have many many clear blue sky days here, sometimes a shot, particualarly landscapes look a little empty without some cloud.

I agree it's often the clouds that can make a shot  my ND110 long exposures would be pointless in most cases without some really nice clouds in the sky  I'm pleased you like it as I think that this is a really pleasing angle on this church :D

Day 34 - The Challenge of the Challenge

Everyone who has done or is doing a photo of the day challenge will have days when either everything seems to be against you or you lack motivation, today was a combination of those for me..

34/366 (399) by mwhcvt, on Flickr

I had the plans to go out with another photographer this evening to do a star trail, those plans feel through at the last minute, so I thought that I would go on my own, I don't mind shooting on my own but like to have company especially when staying in a single location for an extended time as I like to have someone to talk to :D so I went round 4 different locations and for various reasons decided against each of them, and on realising that the outside temp was negative 8.5 celsius I decided that without company there was no way I could stick 2 hours for a star trail so that it how we come to another in car long exposure...

Am I happy with this image..yeah I'm happy with it...did I want it as my POTD today...NO :(

Aww poor Matt...I was thinking something was adrift as your're late getting your pic up tonight.
A good pic though even if it wasn't what you wanted for today.
Never mind buddy, tomorrow is another day.....chin up!

Thanks :D I would have been a late evening post if I'd done the star trail but I'm pleased that you like it, at least I can be happy I've posted a proper image even if not what I wanted for this evening :D I'm hoping that tomorrow will bring me some inspiration since it will be my 400th consecutive photo of the day :D

Day 35 - My 400th POTD

Today marked my 400th consecutive photo of the day :woot:

My 400th consecutive photo of the Day, and truth be told I made a mistake, this last couple of day's for various reasons I've been using a different car to my normal car which I was in this evening so having got to the windmill I realised that my tripod was as you can guess, in the other car  , so I've had no option but to bump up the ISO to the point that I can just about get my photo I wanted, this shows the start of the snow, it's been snowing in Warwickshire for about 30 minutes or so, it's not heavy at the moment but it will be interesting to see what we get :D

35/366 (400) by mwhcvt, on Flickr

My idea behind this processing on this one is that since it was going to be noisy because of the higher than I would have liked ISO I've used a film layer filter on this and then but a but of a vignette, some of the noise like look to this image has also come from the snow in the air :D

Well done and lovely pic

Thanks John, it's amazing to have made it to 400 day's my photography has improved a lot since my first day :D even if I did forget my tripod today :bonk:

Hi Matt,

Just checking in. Looks like you've been really busy ! and i'm glad you managed to get some star trails done in the end they look good. I'm really impressed by your Burton Dasset image it's really good the shy and tones work really well for me. 400 that's a real achievement.

I am sure it can be really tough at times but it's worth hanging in there your doing a great job and producing some really good results which which i enjoy look ing at.

Nick

Well done Matt....on both 400 and todays pic. Good idea disguising noise with the extra layer...

Could you not have positioned your car and propped camera on it?

Thanks Nick, I'm pleased that your still enjoying what your seeing in this challenge  I have been busy lately and racked up a fair number of miles getting the photo's that I want :D

I can be really tough to keep the challenge going especially since I'm loathed to post photo's that I don't think are the best I could have produced :( but it's the great support that I've received from TP that keeps me going on this challenge :D

Thank you Kev :D I thought it was a good camouflage, I will take my tripod out with me tomorrow

I guess I could have moved the car but I was trying to use a fence instead, I didn't want to spend too much time out of the car because I didn't want to get cold and wet  I'll save that for tomorrow morning :suspect:

Hiya Matt,

Glad to see you are still going strong with your 366 for this year.

However, I have to say I am not taken with your star trail shots ..... are you using a particular lens for these? If so .... I find the distortion of same a tad distracting and I honestly believe you have produced better star trails than these recent posts

Day 34 is a good shot .... I just think you need to tone down the yellow/green a tad which would produce quite a powerful shot.

I love the composition of 35 .... a slight tweak to the shadows/contrast and it will be a shot to print and frame.

I hope you don't think I am being too harsh with my critique .....but as you have completed a 365 last year and I am on a learning experience with your projects .... I feel I have to express my critique (which will not always be right) and I will respect any response to same.

Keep up the fab work Matt .... I do look forward to popping past your thread to see how you are making progress.

Cheers

Thanks for your comment's Dawn they are appreciated  Day 34 was actually taken on a brand of petrol station that has a lot of green lighting :D

The star trails are with a certain lens but because of a time of the lunar month although it was clear it was not the optimum time of the year for trails so I was not able to get the most out of the lens :( so your right I have produced far better trails

Day 36 - Cold Minimalism

No many people had made it the 650 feet up Burton Dassett to make it into the low cloud at the top of the hills :D I'm pleased to say that the Range Rover didn't even flinch at the opportunity to go up and down a really steep and snow covered hill

Thanks I'm really happy with today's snow scape it really as you say shows the bleakness of it  I'm sure I wouldn't want to get stranded up there it can get and was very cold and very windy :shake:

Matt

That sure looks bleak!

Nice capture, makes you wonder whats just over that hill...

You're shooting some really great shots this year, Matt!
400 is a great achievement. I find that focusing on both the milestones for this year and also overall really helped me in my 2nd year of 365ing!

If you look at earlier in the challenge on a better day you can see  as it is just of the other side shrouded in the mist is a large MoD Munitions Store :D

Indeed it's going to be all about the milestones for me this year  with the half century being the next milestone  I'm pleased that your liking what your seeing in the thread

Day 37 - A Misty Monday

A little bit of artist licence with the title in that according to the Met Office this is fog not mist  but then the title would really not have worked  The weather is still rather dull and drab at the moment making life a little bit hard to do a landscape, mainly down to the fact that very little of the landscape is visible :D

I quite liked it here how you have the remains of a old avenue of tree's fading into the mist, and then in the background you have a newer avenue of tree's just visible in the mist...

Oh I do miss that "fog" stuff.....Not!!:D :D
A nice scene that Matt...The peppering of snow adds to it.

I can send some over special delivery if you like  I'm starting to miss that thing that they call the sun  I'm pleased you like this  part of me things that it would have worked even better with a full snow covering  but I'm still happy with this look

Day 37 - Dusk Drive time

I've had all of about five minutes today where I could take a photo :( I reality this is not the most spectacular location for a light trail, I had intended to do a light trail at a location that is special to me as it's the first location I did a light trail, but the M6 was a bit of a car park this evening  so I ended up at a new location to me on a new motorway to me  this was taken over the M69

Over 400 days is a great achievement Matt, well done.
Some brilliant photos recently, 32 in particular stands out to me, in fact I'm going to attempt a star trail this weekend if the weather is on my side.

Thanks Adam :D I'm really pleased with my work so far this year  it's been a great start to the year for me, I've done a lot more landscape's that I've done in the past and I'm really enjoying it :D I hope that you get the weather that your looking for  star trails are a lot of fun, but and this is the most important thing check your composition and focus as spot on before you start  as it's really frustrating when you've spent an hour plus only for them to be a little off :(

Fab trail

Thank you

Matt

Really like that trail, especially knowing you only had 5 minutes to grab something!

Very nice trail

Thanks :D now just to get my POTD sorted for yesterday now, just doing the edit now

Day 39 - Fire and Wind....mill

This evening along with Darrell (thedodo) we met up with Lynton to spin some wire wool at a local landmark, and a lot of fun was had, though I may have got a little too close to action in this one
