High-end bridge cameras: Sony RX10, Panasonic FZ1000 etc

I am sure he is possibly using a good noise and sharpen software.
Hi Mark - yes these are great, and way better than anything I have got so far. It may be that I’ll improve with time or it may be that he has a better copy of the lens (Jeff (black fox) told me this happened to him so it’s possible). Time will tell but at the moment I’m moderately happy rather than delighted with it and as George points out the RX10 is such a great all rounder it’s hard to beat :)

That's true Jeff advised me to try a used one that has been owned and used a lot on eBay as this would prove that the lens is accurate

Hi Mike, I'm not one for giving other people advice I much prefer to live & let live. If you don't mind me just offering my opinion on your choice of units with regards to the RX10iv & Olympus set up having used both.

First the Olympus can yield some excellent results in the right hands but is only very marginally better than the Sony and in my opinion not worth the hassle of changing. Secondly you are an absolute MASTER of the RX10iv so why would you want to change? As you well know the Sony has an absolute "Excellent" lens at any focal length with a full range of lenses in just one optic, it focuses extremely quickly and is far less hassle to use than any system camera.

In my humble opinion if you don't mind me saying, just not worth changing knowing your capabilities with the RX10iv.
Mike definitely is a master of the Sony RX10IV he should write a book on it. That would sell loads of copies

Excellent shots, Mike.

The photo of the fly says 'RX10iv macro', was that just with the camera or did you have any attachment, eg a Raynox?

Dave

Thanks Dave. I’ve tried a few different things (Raynox and the like) but not had much success - that one is just the bare lens and a fairly heavy crop. To be honest if I could get just a slightly better macro I’d sell everything else and just use the RX10 until it (or me) died :)

Thanks Mike. The more I see photos from the RX10iv(and I know the results are certainly not just down to the camera, which I have read is quite a complicated beast) the more I would really like one.

Well you’ll not be surprised if I recommend it wholeheartedly ;)

It’s not much good at shallow dof or high iso but if you generally use it in good light you can get sharp images wide open right through to 600mm equivalent in a relatively light and compact package :)

Friend of mine recently bought a Sony RX10 he’s really pleased with it
He uses it for butterflies and dragonflies as well as birds
He showed me some shots on the back of his camera, they looked decent, he said he likes the quality from the 1 inch sensor

I'd love to have a few tame birds at about 10 meters on a sunny day and take a load of shots with an RX10iv, an OM1 with 100-400ii, OM1 with 300f4, and OM1 with panny 100-400ii and see if there was any clear winner or just pixel peeping differences... maybe one day
I have loads of photos taken with both systems over the years and there's not much in it really from what I can see. Shame mine went hurtling down the garden path. I would have bought another if you could still buy new. I do like the extra reach the m4/3 offers though.
