Fuji x100

Well purely on build quality and looks the X100 wins hands down, for me it's more about just specs and image quality, it's how one connects with it.

The X100 is still hard to find in some places but the shortages should stop in a month, guess it's a waiting game. US is still yet to see theirs.

Much like the difference between and audi and a vw. It's all about prestige.
I now have a d7000, its prestige, the X100, not prestige.:)

I used to own a Nikon D40 with the wonderful 18-200mm VR lens, I too was finding I was rarely using it, fancied a change for something smaller and more unique so bought a Fuji X100.
Don't regret buying the X100 one bit and Fuji are still cracking out excellent firmware tweaks/updates.

Riz :)

Is it prestige though, that's the question?

D7000 prestige? I think not, I wouldn't consider any consumer dslr "prestige".

I agree that the D7000 is not prestige but it is a cracking camera, I was looking at one myself but I don't use my X100 enough :D

Just a heads up, the latest firmware has again made a massive improvement regarding AF performance.

I suppose it depends on whether you think the Audi is the prestige model or the VW.

Good to know, I've upgraded mine to 1.30 but not tried it, but then I never really experienced the "poor" AF as I've only had it a week and a half.
Hoping for some better weather so I can get out and about with it!

I've had this pouch reccomended for the X100 but I was wondering if anyone else has used something similar?

I have Chris - it's the perfect size for the X100 (and my GF1!). I got mine from an American ebay store and paid £15 posted.

These pouches are a far more sensible option than the various hard cases. Great protection, light, easy to stow and cheap - and it'll (probably) fit your OMD when you get that!!

Thanks David, how tight are they? Was half wondering if it would fit an X100 with a half case attached? Mainly for storage while its in my bag.

I've sold on my X100 but I can't recall the fit being tight at all - like I say if you buy the pouch it will fit loads of other cameras anyway. Of note it can take a GF1 with an Oly 45mm attached.

Cheers David, thats probably answered my query, I had the 45mm on my EP2 for a bit and it was a larger package than the X100

Ok, tip of the day is don't try to work out a new camera for the first time after a few beers! Got a few shots at Wembley yesterday though, can't wait to use this bad boy properly when I get a chance. I really can see this being a purely black and white camera for me, there's something about the X100 and black and white that seems to go together for me.

^Great pics Dave!

Here's a snap of the GF, 6400ISO + a BW film conversion. Last proper shot on my X100 as I've just sold it in the marketplace. Got offered an OM-D for too good a price to resist. Have to say I'm a bit sad to sell it though :(. More X100 photos in this gallery if interested ;).

First proper out and about with the X100 just around where I stay (Shore, Leith) had to fuse multiple exposures due to the very bright sun!

Nothing interesting but I am very impressed with the IQ of the camera, bests my previous EP2!

Nice Pics Chris.
Was down there a few weeks ago at Martin Wisharts for Lunch staying at the Mal and took a few pics myself with my X100. Will dig them out and post.

Ooh, you name dropper, you!;)

Sniff, still no X100. Called them about my broken one on monday, had the package to send it back on Tuesday, stuck it in the post first thing on Wednesday. Just called them now and they are "looking at it". It's broken. Obviously. On delivery. Just replace it ffs! I'm really, really not impressed with their service.

Maybe they are going to refurb it properly rather than just put new cables in a returned camera box. You wouldn't want them to send another refurb and find that one DOA!
Allan

Well, since it's a triply damaged body, I do want one that's checked, but I don't want that body back - they clearly state that I'm due a replacement.

Ahh, just got an email confirming that I am due a replacement. Will phone them up and see what they say.

A couple of recent ones. i bought a sandisk extreme pro sd card the other day. It has made the camera a lot faster between shots.

I shoot mainly in mono and then convert to colour in camera using the raw files.
the down side to this can be seen in the second photo, the annoying piece of dry grass!!!

Just done a bit of shooting with the OM-D.

EVF: slightly better than the X100. Better in the dark, much better when panning, sharpness/resolution without magnification actually about the same to my eyes. Magnification on the OM-D however is miles better.

Image-stabilisation: just wow! You won't believe it unless you've seen it :p.

Handling: definitely goes to x100. I massively miss the nice aperture ring and shutter speed dial. Can see this becoming a bit of a gripe in the long run.

Image quality: prefer the x100 colours. Pretty hard to judge sensor resolution or dynamic range, but suffice to say both cameras are excellent.

Autofocus: no competition here unfortunately! X100 is usable in most situations, but not when you're trying to catch a fast moving cat.

OM-D is a more responsive camera all round. Definitely a more useful shooting tool, but doesn't have the more involved 'experience' of the x100. I don't regret swapping as I need the telephoto and ultra-wide options, but the output hasn't made me go 'wow' yet, like my first few shots with the x100 did.

Finally managed to get out into the woods today after a bout of illness, sadly most of the bluebells are dying, but I found one or two that still seemed to be full of life.

I love this camera

Got my replacement yesterday and this one seems to be a good one! It really is a lovely bit of kit. Some quick test snapshots in the back garden with my wife and son were very impressive - I'm looking forward to really getting to use it properly. If the weather holds up, I think a long walk is on the cards for this weekend :)

Mine arrived this morning but has the sticky aperture blades problem I think. Lovely shots at f2 but increasing overexposure in AP mode as I close down the aperture. I got it through eBay - anyone know what Fuji's position is on repairing these for non-original owners?
