Fuji x100

Well done Fuji.

Turned on my new refurb this evening. Hmm, why can't I play back the shots? Oh, none of the buttons beside the display work? Lovely. Oh, and the manual focus ring is broken too? Even better! Oh, and that lovely EVF/OVF finder is broken as well! Fantastic!

I'm a wee bit pee'd off to say the least.

After hearing a few more similar tales about faulty refurbs, seems to me they are just returns. I suppose its more cost effective for them to just sell them as they come back in and just refurb/ fix the ones that are sent back again as faulty.
I did contemplate a refurb but I like opening brand new packages......

Yeah, I'm not impressed - I usually have no problem with refurbs as they have been properly refurbed - I've bought refurbs from Dell, Apple and Amazon before with no problems at all. But this is pretty shocking - any one of the problems would have been annoying, but to have all three clearly means they've just banged out an unchecked camera. I've a wedding tomorrow and my parents are coming to visit my son on Weds and both will now be without the X100.

Took the X100 out for the first time in anger today and I'm really impressed. It just feels like a 'proper' camera.

Comparing images from the x100 and the GX1 the X100 pips it but the GX1 is still a great camera. It just feels a bit elecronicy rather than photoey if that makes any sense?

You do seem to have to use the ND filter a lot outdoors though. One other points was that I didn't seem to have ISO100 available. Any idea why?

The standard ISO range starts at 200.

The second half of that point is that there's a menu option to enable the expanded iso settings (100 and 3200).

But at a reduced D R

Allan

Only if you're shooting jpeg - if you're shooting RAW my understanding is that dynamic range is the same regardless. Though happy for someone to point out if I'm wrong!

I don't really see any reason to drop ISO below 200 when I've been out with my camera. If it is really bright we do have the option of the ND filter.

I guess though if you want to have a slower exposure (perhaps for water) it may be useful.

Would people recommend buying the lens hood and/or thread adaptor?

I would tbh..also adds a bit more protection and if you get a pinch cap no need to use the slip on fuji lens cover:) Oh and i have one for sale in the classifieds if interested:D

Thanks Stuart, will take a look!!
Also going to pickup a shutter release cable, looks like I should be able to pick one up in Jacobs.

Need to find a case, think I'm going to try and get an every ready case and just use the half bit most of the time.

ISO (L) 100 isn't available shooting RAW. (I don't think 12800 is either).

Does anyone here have experience of using the X100 with nikon flash units off camera? How easy is it to set up. I assume it's manual and flash unit in SU-4 mode?

Nor me; but if they can get it wider - say 24mm, I'd be tempted if IQ was up there with the best.

I can but dream!

I think making wider would be tough and its probably easier to make 50mm. 28/35/50mm would make the perfect street photography tool.

If the image quality is as good as the 35mm, £250 isn't that bad for essentially another lens....

Just in case it interests anyone, I received a Zhou Black Leather Half Case today in the post only for my other half to tell me she has a case for me on order she didn't tell me about so there's a brand new Zhou Black Leather case in classified!

Picked up the Fuji hood and adaptor ring today along with a cable release and UV filter.
Just need to add a case now and maybe a thumb grip!

Well if you are looking for a quality case have a look at the Zhou range, even if you don't want to buy my one in classified - they are quality!

I would keep mine but I can't really not use the one my other half gives me as a present....... :nono:

Sorry no experience with Nikon flash, but I've used it off camera with Nissin flashes. Set the flashes to manual and triggered with Phottix Strato II Multi triggers (also used Pocketwizard II).

Thanks for that Kev. I think I'll give the SB800's a go over the weekend.

Will take a look, I think I want to get one of the Gariz cases as its got the cut out on the bottom for battery/memory card and for a tripod.

Just a couple of points worth knowing if using radio triggers for off camera manual flash.

1) camera cant be in silent mode
2) in the shooting menu set the external flash to "on", not "on (commander)".

FINALLY bought myself one of these bad boys after lusting after it for so long.

What's the general consensus here on battery life (sorry, haven't had time to read the whole thread yet), and what third party batteries would you recommend?

Its not the best. Iv got a spare and need to change the battery when on a day out. The battery falls of a cliff so to speak, when it drops to two bars it means you have a few shots left!!

I have a third party battery which seems to last for as long as the fuji one, if there is a difference i cant say iv noticed.

But its a great camera! Enjoy!

Def have a spare. I have two spares, and tend to get through all of them in a full days worth of shooting ;).

I don't suppose anyone on here has an E-M5 as well as the x100? A friend is offering to sell me his for a damn good price, though I don't fancy the kit lens so I'll have to buy extra lenses as well, which would mean I'd probably have to sell my beloved x100 to finance it :|.

Not sure what to do atm.

I use this one here, purchased via Amazon.

Cheers, looks like I won't get one before Saturday so will have to take it easy as I'm going to be using it at Wembley. Absolutely loving it so far though, wanted one for so long and at just under £620 for a new one I couldn't resist any longer.

It's a great piece of engineering. You got a great price. £100 less than mine in January!

How do you tell what the latest serial numbers are? The SAB does concern me a bit I must admit. My serial number starts 21N, would that be a recent model?

As I understand it, serial numbers work like this:

2=2012
1= first quarter (ie Jan- March)
2= second quarter

And so forth.

N is the region

So yours is a recent model.
