Blondie606's Photo52 2011-Wk 52 Glass & Nature,Challenge Complete

Hi Lynne,
Wow, what a lovely spring image. Great pp too. the picnik app was a good choice. The mistiness really works and points the focus where it belongs.
Another week quick off the mark too for you

Bloody marvelous image , nice one.

'Tis with some trepidation I post up each week as what I like isn't everyones cup of tea .

Never fear posting anything if everyone liked the same thing it would be a dull old world...;)

Nice low angle on the last shot

MD:thumbs:

great colours and compersition in the crocus shot

Thanks for popping in & commenting Andy  Still don't really get this compostion thing...just point & shoot in the main...or is that the wrong thing to say round here

Hi Lynne, great image, very spring-like & I really like the way you've processed the shot:thumbs:

Cheers Andy , think this is my fave shot so far of mine & I may actually have got the frame right this time....

I don't go to the main thread any more for the new theme, I just look for a post by Blondie606 every Sunday!

It's a good capture and the PP really works well.

Thanks Neil ....I think  Had to make the most of the weather today

Hiya Lynne,

Wow! Wow! Wow! I absolutely love your crocus flowers for week 10. Yellow flowers are my fav (with my absolute fav being daffs), but these are just stunning. Well spotted, and I had to chuckle at your story of what you had to do to get this shot  (the things we do for a pic ;))

Great DOF and good use of lighting. Also like the way you have processed the photo (and glad to see you are putting Picnik to good use :D).

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Lynne!

I have to say your FINISH photo is very good. Those lemurs are soo cute! I agree with Ray that something ... interesting... might be happening in that pile! Great catch!

I love your TRIO photo! Very warm image that can brighten everyone's day! The PP works very well with the image. I also like your composition and how the flower trio is separated from the rest of the flowers.

Good job!

Rayna

Lovely shot. The yellow is lovely and it's great how you picked out the trio.

Lovely light coming through the petals, central positioning works well to my eye. Perhaps try a lighter border or lose the black part of the existing border.
Spring has sprung for you but it's still brass monkeys here.

Made my day Dawn...praise from you is praise indeed & I just love Picnik so thanks for telling me about it

Thanks for popping in & commenting Rayna ,think Trio is my fave capture so far & probably going to end up as a mothers day card:)

Thanks Tina

Lovely shot. The yellow is lovely and it's great how you picked out the trio.

Thanks for commenting Jackie , was quite pleased that it came out of the camera just as I saw it as the yellow color is beautiful

Cheers Barry , natural light is just so good & the kit lens really works well in these situations . Apart from a slight crop to lose some road & a sharpen I didn't need to pp it at all but did spend ages in Picnik trying various border colors :bonk: Settled on the black outer as the colored ones seemed to detract from the beautiful yellow & I thought the black set it off better but am going to have another play during the week following your suggestion

Hmmm , week 11 already !

Had a scan back through my thread to find a reshoot project but getting fed up with indoor shots ( & I've eaten all the nuts  ) so thought to do a new version of the Trio theme...mainly cos I fell over this shot whilst out on Saturday afternoon ( must have been a touch psychic about the theme !) .

It would have been better with the birds all facing the same direction (but they wouldn't take direction from me )& also the water wouldn't stay calm enough for perfect reflections so had to settle for this

Knowledge was looking like another headache but then inspiration came knocking :) It also gave me my 1st chance to do selective coloring (after a telecon training session with a Tog friend) , not to everyones taste I know & this is certainley not the best ever attempt but pleased as punch for my 1st try. I'm learning very slowing about editing ,there are a couple of things that I'm not happy with that cloning could sort but I'm not that far up the learning ladder yet  I think I should have stood at a slightly different angle but was being hampered by people wandering about (darn inconsiderate of them !)

Anyway , the shot is based on the Knowledge.....you need this to become a taxi driver :

169.jpg

& a huge thanks to the Rotherham Taxi drivers who put up with me wandering about for 1/2 an hour , very nice bunch of guys , all curious to know what I was doing & why (come to think of it so was I  )

Theirs always one uncooperative subject isn't there, lol.

I like the reflection in the water on this and the sun is in just the right place to light up their faces.

Hi Lynne,

Liking your SC shot, as you know i'm rather fond of them :-) only crit i would say is that i easily spot the 2 taxi signs you missed and wonder why you didn't colour them?

Good work, keep it up.

Great reshoot for trio Lynne. Excellent composition, lovely sharp image. I actually like the fact that they are all looking different directions and in different poses. My only suggestion would be to maybe try rounding the corners of the image before putting on the frame. Have no idea why but I just looked at the image and instantly thought that would sit nicer. Obviously I could be wrong, and I have no idea how easy or hard it would be to do.

Knowledge, very good take on the theme, great thinking. I will sit on the fence due to the selective colouring. Still not sure if I like the process. It certainly doesn't look bad in this case but not entirely sure if it improves the image.

Hi James

Thanks for your comments
The 2 taxi signs I didn't color were a reddish color & just seemed to iritate me when I tried a version with them in ,they sort of drew the eye toward them ? Will post up that version for a comparison if you'd like to see it ?

Hi Colin ,
I knew the selective color wouldn't appeal to everyone but I've always been a fan . Now I how to do it I'll try to resist the urge to use it all the time  I felt / hoped the B&W with a spot of color would emphasize the Knowledge link ( but maybe not ?) .Just realised that it also fits the theme in a 2nd way...I've gained more knowledge..yayyy
thanks for dropping in & giving me another idea for for the frame  Think a curved frame is possible in Picnik...off to have a look see :D

Hi,

Yeah i'd like to see it, i've seen the taxi's with the reddish signs so can understand.

J

Really drawn to the border in your trio reshoot, and the birds, of course.

Great idea for the taxi, nice and simple idea but one I'd not have thought to do.

Cheers.

Thanks for stopping by & commenting Andy ,much appreciated  Is that a " good " for the birds border ? Posting another version ref Colin's suggestions on curved corners , tried it with the whole frame curved but really didn't look right at all :

James....here's the version with the other Taxi signs colored , still not sure if better or worse ?

That was a quick turn around on the new border, well done. Not sure if it's better, you maybe made the right choice originally:shrug:
You were also right I think not to include the reddish taxi lights, maybe you could cheat though and use the same yellow as the others?

Cheers Colin  I'm not clever enough with editing yet to change colors , only learnt today how to do selective coloring :D

Thanks for doing that James , looks much better
Don't mind at all BUT PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO DO IT :)

Lol sorry should have said.

Firstly you need version 9 of PSE.

It's done by creating an adjustment layer - Hue/Saturation - select Red in the drop down box - move the Hue slider to adjust the red in the image.

Hope thats clear. Was actually a guide in issue 42 (January) of PhotoPlus Canon edition mag.

J

I love the black headed gulls, they may not be all looking in the same direction but there is a flow to their postures and poses so look brilliant  Nice n sharp with clearly lit faces

The taxi shot...is that not colour popping? As opposed to selective colouring? Tell me I'm wrong as I'm ignorant of these things. I really don't like these but I like the shot itself, and your thought process was

Hiya Lynne,

Well done on both the trio and knowledge shots, I like both. However have to agree that the SC of all the taxi signs is better.

Must say though, that I prefer the original of the bird shot with the sharp corners, I think the rounded corners makes it look too much like a table place mat (sorry). Personally I think rounded corners are more suited to a more 60's type of photo processing.

I love the bit of storyboard you add to your submissions, they always make me chuckle as I can well imagine the chaos you must cause when you are out and about taking your pics  I would have loved to have been a fly on the windscreen watching you running around between the cars for the taxi shot :D

I'm really impressed with the progress you are making in your 52 and always look forward to seeing what you come up with each week.

Keep up the brilliant work.

Cheers

Thanks for telling what & how James....all I need to do now is upgrade to PSE9

Thanks for popping in & commenting Tina , much appreciated  I'm not sure if it's Selective Color or Color Popping either , think it may depend on who's talking about it ? Had a nosey round the forum , some call it one & some the other :)

Dawn :)

Cheers for the comments Dawn.... I look forward to the themes (mostly) cos I know I'm gonna be out & about looking daft (& getting stared at) but people seem interested in what I'm doing & start up conversations which is fun . It is making me much more confident in general .

I also prefer the original frame for the Birds but as part of this challenge is to learn , I'm always willing ( if not always able) to try stuff that people offer as suggestions . Jame's version of the Taxi's is much more effective & as said above I now need to upgrade to PSE9....:bang:

Both trio shots are lovely - great composition and colours.
Really original take on 'knowledge' and again well composed.

I love the reflection in Trio!!

Many thanks for popping in & commenting Mark, much appreciated & glad you like :)

Hiya Lynne, I really like your trio of Black Headed Gulls, the frame you have chosen also compliments the grey of gulls backs nicely. Very well done also for your knowledge shot! What a great idea, which fits the theme perfectly. The selective colouring works very well indeed. Excellent work.

I hadd'nt noticedd the frame color being similar to the Gull's backs - I'm sooo observant
& thanks to James I've found out how to alter the colors for selective color shots...& it can be ddone in PSE8

ps..excuse the odd dddddd ...split tea on my keyboardddddddddd last night:D

Whilst i like the taxi shot... I dont connect it with the theme at all in "my" head. I love the bird shot for trio though... Real well timed capture and great reflections as others have said.

Great work!

M

Hi Lynne.

The trio is good, but I'm not a fan of the frame, it's a bit big IMO.
The reflections work well, even if the water isn't calm.

Now, unlike Mark, I totally connect with your taxi theme and you'll see why if you find time to drop in on my 52!

I note you spoke with a friend for help on PP, I usually find a good tutorial in Google land.
So far Linky has been good and easy to follow, thats if you're using Photoshop!

Some great images appearing in your 52.

The flowers shot for trio is excellent - beautiful colours and composition. It would make a great large size print.

The gulls pic is nice and is well composed, exposed and focussed, but doesn't make a memorable image for me.

Really like the taxi shot for "knowledge". The selective colour works very well and makes the image zing. Great shot.

Cheers, Patrick

Thanks for taking the time to comment Patrick , much appreciated
Just had my Trio shot made into a Mothers day card

Always liked selective coloring but this was my 1st attempt so quite happy with it & having played around & got some tuition I've found I can get the same effect that vdubster showed me:thumbs:

Having spent the week without my camera (off being cleaned) I'm a touch late posting up for this theme .

Struggled for ideas , did a quick google for inspiration & came up with this :

mod1a.jpg

All thing in moderation , also known as " a moment on the lips , a lifetime on the hips "
Played around with exposure settings for the 1st time whilst taking this so hope I've got it about right ?

Now , having had that cake on the worktop in it's box for a whole week I'm gonna say "sod moderation " :D
