Blondie606's Photo52 2011-Wk 52 Glass & Nature,Challenge Complete

Great idea! Well shot, lighting is really tricky if you have a reflective subject but you've done well here, i like it :)

Just out of curiosity ,how many shots do most people take before they get "the one " ? I average at least 30-40 :bang:

I have on occasion taken about 20 in one go. The problem I have then though is narrowing them down to find which I prefer. Lol

Hiya Lynne,

<snip? DAWN : your comments really mean a lot to me, having seen the standard of all your shots , many thanks

Thanks, and you are welcome, I look forward to seeing your photos each week.

Just out of curiosity ,how many shots do most people take before they get "the one " ? I average at least 30-40 :bang:

It can vary depending on what I am taking a photo of. Sometimes I take many photos, because I try all different compositions, lighting, arrangements and other times I take just a couple. Even though I am still learning, I try to think first about what camera settings to use, and if I don't get that right I then adjust them and shoot again. By doing this Photo52 I find I am paying more attention so those details.

Cheers

Hi Lynne. It's cracker (haha!) :D. I like it, well done!

Another great pic Lynne. Perfect for the theme and a great idea. The colours and lighting look great to me. A highlight on the nutcracker and a shine on the nuts looks very natural.

The focussing and DOF look spot on. Nice detail on the nuts which makes me feel I could just pick one up. You can even see the tiny hairs on the cracked nuts.

I think I might have tried a different crop to lose some of the blank space on the left and right of the pic.

Cheers, Patrick

Great shot Lynne  I think you have knocked this off ..I think it was worth the effort taking all the shots to get this one...They do say you sometimes have to take loads of shots to get one decent one..and you are proof here... well done ...;)

I think you're nuts are spot on :p I don't think the glare off the crackers detracts from the shot at all, however (and I've not tried this yet) I do remember seeing a vid of taking a watch shot and they took one with lighting to work with the bezel and another lit for the face and then cut/pasted together for the best of both worlds. Anyway I like the colours and clarity makes me want to just reach out and eat a few :)

So,on to week 6 "Clutter" . I have a real problem with clutter so don't have any in the house/garage ,even the drawers are "organised" clutter so couldn't figure out how to make them interesting ? Googled "the meaning of clutter " & came across this -

"Clutter (advertising): Advertising or marketing clutter refers to the large volume of advertising messages that the average consumer is exposed to on a daily basis..." hmmm....
Decided to have a go at creating an image rather than just a photo . Spent a morning taking shots of various ad's which gave me my 1st headache as I was trying to get perfect shots (no shadows, tree's etc) then realised that these are also clutter . Into PSE which gave me another headache as I'm a b****r for order, balance & everything neat & tidy :bonk:

This isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea but I kinda like the the finished result :
Clutter_1.jpg

My thinking was as follows : to create a cluttered image of advertising clutter
(ended up with about 26 layers though still not sure how I did this)!

It works for me in 3 ways :
The ad's are clutter in their own right , the image itself is cluttered & some of the ad's have clutter in them be it shadows, tree's ,railings etc

Really enjoyed doing this ,found stuff on PSE I'd not realised was there (just don't ask me to find it again!) & it took me so far outside my comfort zone I'm not sure how to get back:lol:

Suspect any feedback is gonna be interesting................

Hiya Lynne,

GREAT take on the theme

Love the image you have produced and very creative indeed.

My only crits are:

1) the bits of dark space, especially left of the 'Sale Massive stock clearance' , and others where you could have positioned the pics in a way to cover the background to make it look a lot more cluttered (my own opinion though).

2) The border doesn't do it justices ..... namely, it is a very busy image ... and even though I can see where you are coming from with the 'overspill' of the clutter, I think a nice heavy thick black border would have worked better. Bearing in mind not to let the corners of the 'overspill' to extend past the border (hope you know what I mean by that).

3) I would also have added a bit of 'punch' to some of the photos to bring them out more, as I find myself searching for the relevance to the theme.

Omg I wish I had the photos you took for this image as I could have a great time playing with them.

A fab idea and I think you are on a rolll with this one.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Dawn

am really struggling to get my head round PSE ,stuff just sort of appears then goes ,then can't find what I want ,can't get it to do what I want :bang:
Done another take on the image , couldn't figure out how to put 4 other images in to it (that happened by mistake on the original !) Tried to put a black border on as per your suggestion & pick out a few of the shots & hopefully got less space spare
Untitled-29.jpg

It was your shots that gave me the idea to try something different so thank you :) If you want the individual pic's I can probably email them to you but would only be as jpeg's if thats any help ?

Lynne, what a marvellous idea and well done you :D It takes far more effort that just trolling the house for some convenient clutter to get one shot.

I understand your trouble with pp and the appearance and disappearance of tools but sometimes you need to know what can be done so that at least you are not trying to do the impossible in future.

Well done

Thanks Dawn

Hiya Lynne

You are welcome and I am glad you liked my ideas so much that you gave it a try too. If you don't mind sharing your photos, that would be great as I would really like to have a go at creating a collage with them, JPEGs will be fine. You will find my email addy in my profile contact details page, or I could PM the addy to you.

I don't use PSE, infact I use the very basic pp (even find myself lost with LR3), and try not to process my pics too much (although some will probs think I do, because the results seem very processed ... but it is all in the technique and settngs). I try to get the closest image at point of shooting, it doesn't always work, and is quite a challenge. Although at times I may apply heavier processing, depending on the image I am trying to create, i.e., when doing an abstract image.

Thanks for taking on board what everyone has said, and having the balls to play with the image.... and I like how you have rearranged the photos, used a different background and border, looks great.

I had a bit of a play with the image and added a thinker border. I posted a pic here, but then decided to remove it so as not to clutter your thread. If you want I can PM the image to you so that you can see the effect of the heavier border.

Keep up the great work.

Cheers

Dawn :)

hi Lynne

I like the first shot ;) great idea ..well put together that must have taken a bit of time ...

Great idea for 'clutter' I like the first one best really original approach and great composition.

Wow your photos are brilliant, I am so impressed, can't wait to see what you do next Lynne.

Thanks for all the feedback peeps , I think I'm learning just takes a while for stuff to sink in:thinking:

Week 7 & Oh boy , so many options but so little time & ability
I really wanted to do a simple shot with minimal editing this week ,still ended up taking loads of shots of various things & then playing in piknic (thanks Dawn) .

I was given a necklace which whilst it's in my fave colors is far to fussy & not symetrical which iritates me . However the rose buds are made from some sort of porcelain type stuff & both look & feel Delicate :

Took this with my Raynox 250 which I'm still getting to grips with :bonk:

I absolutely love your clutter shot, such a brilliant idea, very well thought out and well executed

The flower is lovely, you have captured the detail and the brokeh is just right, it doesn't detract from the flower at all, really nice shot :)

pretty and fits the theme well Lynne :) nice colours and soft background too. There's a couple of stray hairs on one of the petals, but thats just me being over-picky

Hi Lynne, I always like your theme images and this in no exception. Even down to the colour it looks so delicate. I have only viewed on my phone so far so probably haven't done it justice yet. Even on a small screen it just leaps out and grabs attention. Great use of focus and composition. You should be well pleased with this.

Martin

Nice shot for delicate, I love he detail that can be seen in the petals.
Im not however keen on the rounded edges of the framing. Thats just down to my personal taste though.

Well done, keep up the good work!

Hiya Lynne,

Lovely take on this weeks theme and I like the colours and bokeh. That looks like a very delicate piece.

Keep up the good work on your project.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi peeps,
many thanks for the feedback , wasn't sure the pic conveyed Delicate well enough

Andy....hmmmm,been back & looked again at the pic & can see what you mean.Studied the rose under a magnifying glass & found that the little curl is a defect in the petal that can't be seen with the naked eye but the other small straight line may have been a hair or similar either on the rose or the Raynox :bang: Just had a good cleaning session so hopefull that shouldn't happen again. Thanks for pointing it out , I'll remember to pay closer attention to cleaning in future :)

Marts, Dawn ,Jamin ,Kimbers ,kennysarmy,Mr G ,Sparrow...thank you for your kind comments ,much appreciated .I keep looking at the frame & can't decide if I like it or not but have Piknic...will play:naughty:

Tina....PSE drives me nuts ! Why can't someone produce a simple to understand step by step manual so at least I don't spend hours trying to do something that can't be done

Roll on Saturday for the next Tor...I mean theme :)

Hi Lynne

Your clutter image just does not say clutter to me... It's a great image and one i'd not be able to produce myself in Photoshop... but I dont think clutter... I'm not even sure what I think! But its defo not clutter! But that said WOW its a great image... just not for me!

I LOVE your delecate image... It's a great representation of the theme... But like someone else I really dont like the border on the shot! The photo itself is just right... maybe a wee touch more desaturation would give it a more antique look!

At least you have an idea and a shot for this week! I'm lost!

Mark

Hi Mark

thanks for the feedback . Clutter sort of started as good idea in my head but maybe got a bit lost somewhere & have no idea how I managed to do it

The border is a bit "marmite" but having found Piknic I can't resist playing a little & have no idea how to de-saturate it but may have another play on a re-shoot week - thanks for the idea:thumbs:

I thought of several ideas (eventually) ,really wanted a spiders web with small water droplets on it but all the spiders have either moved out of my garden or are still hibernating !

You have some great images in here, great ideas. Looking at getting Photoshop for my self.

Hi Lynne I really like your week 7 pic. Lovely subtle colours and definitely has a very delicate look to it.

Nice use of DOF to blur the background, but I think I would have preferred a slightly deeper DOF to bring more the of the porcelain flower into focus. Very nice detail on the petals. Not keen on the border, but that's just IMHO.

Great pic  , Patrick

Hi Patrick , I wanted to get the whole flower in focus but was struggling with the Raynox 250 so maybe you can advise on settings as want to try again . Settings were f 6.3 , 1/30 sec at 45mm focal length with flash plus 2 extra lights from either side to try n avoid shadows . I tried higher f numbers ie f8 with lower shutter speeds but then the shot was too dark .Any help gratefully recieved

Cheers David, never thought about B&W & not really ever done a conversion . However as you've planted the idea I had a go ,very badly edited as no real idea what I'm doing in PSE:bang:
Car_B_W_copy.jpg

Feel free to show me how it should look :)

No need, it's beautiful.

Aww, thanks David, glad you like :)

Week 8 Chaos has been causing me a headache ! Really couldn't come up with anything but also didn't want to play a joker . The only thing that sprang to mind were words from a Marillion song " the chaos of colors " :bang: Debated taking a pic of my undies drawer as that really is a chaos of colors but not really a photo so finally decided to have a play in picnik & try to create a type of kaleidoscope image based on colors .
Bit of a tenuous link to the theme but I'm liking the finished effect , appreciate not to everyones taste though:lol:

Untitled-1d.jpg

It started life as a light trails shot I took & then just played about with . A lot ! Thanks to Dawn for the inspiration

Am really hoping my photo mojo comes back for week 9 !

Hiya Lynne,

Ooooh, I like what you have done with this image, very creative indeed. I'm glad you are finding Picnik useful, and you are having fun.

The colours are stunning and I like the kaleidoscope effect. My only crit would be the border, on my screen it seems to go from dark brown to black and then to the lilac colour. Perhaps just the 3 inner frames would work best.

I'm flattered that you find my work inspiring, thank you.

You are doing a great job, and even though this image might not be to everyones taste, it ticks all the boxes for me.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Dawn & well spotted....must be my age, eyesight going ! Have amended the borders , Def having fun in piknic

Thanks for commenting Tina , bit of a marmite one this & very tenuous for the theme
