blakester's 52 for 2010, Part 1

Iain, Shoot is an excellent take on the theme, and it works very well. A great setup with the bluetac too.

if you use save for web.. the EXIF is stripped...

Thanks for looking/commenting John.

Shooting Dice

Hehe, the first thing I did was check the exif to see if you'd cheated... and then I read the comments. Nicely done all the same!

Cheers Lee, I do the same thing on certain images to see how they're done:lol:
I will know for the next time I want to be a bit creative;)

Really like the composition, dof and timing on the dice shot - well done!

Phil

Cheers Phil, bit of a cheat on the timing side but there you go ;)

Aaaah ... didn't read the rest of the thread.... now I understand!

Phil

You had me  trying to figure out how you'd done that one....very good use of blutak there mate!!

Ssshhhhhh Damien, some peeps never noticed, I nearly got away with it:D

Was going to say great shot well captured............now I've found your secret all I've got to say is CHEATER!!! :D.

Cheater schmeater:razz: I see it more as creative licence myself:D
Lessons learned this week, don't leave the EXIF in the image

Below is my take on this weeks theme....solitaire, a card game for single player. As always C&C welcome.

This is really nice Iain.

The lighting, green background and the hands all come together to form a cracking image that fits the brief perfectly.

Andy

Thanks Andy, glad you like it. I wasn't sure how the lighting through the blinds would be received. Iain

A neat idea Iain, i never thought about cards when compiling my possible shots list. I have to say though im not a fan of the blinds im afraid, it seems a bit distracting to me.

Thanks for commenting Chris. I did think the blinds would make this image a marmite shot but I just felt that they would add a different dimension to the shot, as opposed to being a bit flat. People's C&C is welcome as always, it helps me learn. Thanks again.

As to the lighting from the blind I think it's a big plus. Love how this has been put together and bang on theme.

Thanks for looking/commenting Scott. Another vote for the blinds, cheers:thumbs:

Works for me! Nice colours, and you've taken it at an interesting (in a good way!) angle....good work Iain, keep it up!!

Thanks Damien, I wanted to fill the frame so the angle was a necessity but I am pleased with the result. Cheers

Another one in favour of the lighting from the blinds
It adds another interesting dimension to it and in my mind it contributes to the feeling of solitude - being sat there alone by the window, shut away from the outside world.

Very strong composition and good colours.
The angle that you've chosen is perfect. The only bit I'm not so keen on is the blinds themselves just peeking in at the top left corner.

Thanks for your in depth comments once again Sarah.
I am afraid I couldn't crop or compose the image to omit the blinds themselves. I am pleased with the comments about the lighting, I did think this might be a marmite shot. Thanks again Iain

great interpretation for the theme.. cant really add anything that hasn't been said.. love the light cast from the blinds, so that gets a yes from me :)

Good interpretation Iain. I'm a little undecided about the blinds - I do agree with Sarah though about the blinds themselves. But well thought out.

Nice original idea...I'm another that likes the shadow of the blinds....much more interesting, if I was going to pick anything to be unsure of it would be the dof on the hands, I think I would have like to see them sharp but it's a craking shot :)

A very good take, and with an interesting dimension to the lighting. The lighting fits in nicely... Good one Iain

Michelle, thanks for your comments and your positive vote for the lighting

Paul, thanks, not a lot could be done about the blinds, my background wasn't big enough to fill the frame with the cards.

Sonia, thank-you too for your comments and suggestion

A very good take, and with an interesting dimension to the lighting. The lighting fits in nicely... Good one Iain

John cheers for your positive comments too

 Gets my vote. Bit of a casino feel to your 52 at the moment isn't there, dice, cards, green baize........

I like this, and pretty much agree with what Sarah's said above.......... a real feeling of solitude........

A clever idea and I like the way you have produced it - good colours and composition and I definitely like the blinds!

Hi Iain, catchup time for me...

Produce: A good quadtych and definitely works better with the borders.

Quad: Nice effective collection of shots that would work well in a golfing magazine. Are you dropping your right shoulder on the way through? That palm under your chin in the 1st image is a bit distracting also, but it's no biggy.

Shoot: Really like this image. Conveys movement well and is nicely composed.

Single: Nicely set up and I can't decide whether the lights distract or add to the image. I think I prefer them as it would be a bit flat without them and it adds atmosphere to the shot.

Ian.

thank-you too Ian, I don't know about the shoulder drop, will have to look at that :)
My single shot, I have a few without the light from the blinds, they are a bit flat to be honest. I prefer the ones with the blinds. Thanks again for looking/commenting. Iain

Below is my take on this weeks theme "stare". The Blakester Family
As always, C&C welcome.

Great idea Iain, i particually like the contrasting eye colours of you and the missus and how they have merged in your daughters.

Thanks Chris, I like your interpretation of the image, much appreciated.

Very clever take on the theme. Each one of those is good individually. I like the way you have managed to get the catchlight basically the same in each one.

Interesting comment about the eye colours.

Jenny

Thanks Jenny, I had a bit of a job posing my "models", once again there was dissent in the ranks . Too much mucking about when I was trying to be creative.

Nice one Iain.

I didn't think there would be too many variations on this weeks theme but you have managed something different

Andy

Cheers Andy, it was a difficult theme to find inspiration on. IMO it's quite a narrow topic to do something different with, thanks again. Iain
