Bargains Thread

There's also Kodak Ultra and FirstCalls own brand, but they're not the type of film I'd use

I need some 400 35mm colour, I hadn't realised how little choice there is, and how flippin dear 35mm is.

there's fuji 400h and portra 400........that's it !

wtf

Just curious John when you say "I need some 400".......50, 100 or 800 I can understand but why must it be 400?

800 is too grainy, 100/200 is too slow, or at least that's my best guess.

I'm going to be shooting "submerged", the details of which are unclear, 400 seems like a minimum and as close to grainy as I want to go.

Anyway, I've bought some portra 400 now, so that's that.....lol

Ah! when results are important...but for anyone else who only has Vista 200 or Superia 200 etc setting the meter to 400ASA and you can get away with it.
I've done Vista to 8Xs overexposure and when I have some film to use up will try 6Xs underexposure in stages

H'mm why bother doing tests when someone has already done it.....well not for Vista but still interesting:-

Just bought a Franka Solida II from a charity shop for £15. Was tempted to buy some HP5 for it from Boots, shoot it and get it developed, then I found out Boots only sell it they don't process it. She didn't even offer it as an external service. It let the wind out of my sails a bit and I didn't even buy the film. Looks like it will be an ornament now. Most places look too expensive for B&W developing & scanning to CD. It's the reason I usually resist buying 120 film cameras.

Have you thought about developing B&W film yourself? It's incredibly easy to do and works out much cheaper, plus you don't have to wait a week or more to get the results back :D All the equipment will fit in a small box in the cupboard and pays for itself quickly once you aren't paying a lab to develop . Everyone should develop their own B&W :)

If anyone's looking for a cheap Polaroid SX70 I've just seen this for a bargain £25 if you're quick;

http://www.gumtree.com/p/video-camera-accessories/sx-70-polariod-camera-with-travel-case/1128970213

Tempted myself as it comes with the original case etc and looks like ti may just need a new skin but I've already got a Polaroid 110A on the way for a Fuji FP100C conversion so I've got enough on!

Thanks for this, checking it out tonight (the seller is literally a 15min walk away from me).

Please don't make it an ornament Steve, cameras die in display cabinets like dogs die in hot cars, at least put a roll of film through it. It takes 120 film which can be bought quite cheaply from a well known auction site and there are lots of mail order places that will dev the film for you or do as Carl suggests and do it yourself.

I have thought about it, and I did it once on a course back in '92. However I just don't have the space, most of my free space is covered in SLR cameras, lenses, flashguns, filters, Rangefinders, compacts, Polaroid, Fuji Instax and folding cameras.

Add to that, the others in the house would always be wanting to be in the bathroom. I have enough problems getting in there as it is.

All you need is a small Paterson tank and a few small packs of chemicals to develop B&W, you don't even need a dark room because the tank is sealed.

Boots has 120 for £6.99 or buy one get the 2nd half price

Boots was where I was initially going to buy the film. I was put off when the woman at the photolab said they only sold it for a few people who developed their own.

For home development, I would ordinarily buy HP5. For lab development, I think XP2 or Fuji 400CN (which is actually manufactured by Ilford) are better options.

Boots only had HP5, that last site has Fomapan for £2.99 but delivery is £2.99 too, not so bad if you buy more than one I suppose.

Nice one, glad it might go to someone on here :0)

An update - I have it with me now! There was an empty film pack inside and everything seems to be working. The only downside is that there seems to be some very fine fungus in the lens if I shine a torch through the viewfinder end. Can't see it under normal conditions/shining the light through the front element so hopefully it doesn't show up in photos. If it does show up I'll have a camera with a built in artsy filter. Thanks again Steve!

Nice one, glad it sounds ok. You should be able to clean off the fungus if it's too bad. There are 4 small screws on the back of the lens/exposure unit which you can see at each side. Remove them and the whole unit will drop forwards so you can remove two larger screws then unclip the black plastic front to get to the lens/board.

I'd recommend Aki-Asahi for a new skin, i used them for my last SX70 and they're excellent (or go the wood veneer route like my other one!)

I went in a different Boots to enquire about 120. They had a sign on their Ilford film that FP4 and HP5 will use an external service that takes two weeks.

I asked their photo bloke, who had asked them, and they don't do 120 but they can do 110. £4.99 for developing or £7.99 with prints. Alright for those Minolta and Pentax Auto 110 owners with a freezer full of 110.

you could run some 35mm film through it, but you will need a dark bag probably

you can get adapters on ebay

or if you want to live dangerously and slowly, u could shoot 120 and post it to me and ill devlop it, guess i could cut the negs and send them back in a letter for cheap postage?

Have they actually taken it out of the packaging to photograph it???? Ha ha, crazy people.

This has the potential to be a great buy for the right person. Its got a computer and the software which is what you need to run this thing. It would be worth checking out what the condition of the bed is and if it has any on the accessories. Big scanner and great for scanning negatives.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Screen-Cezanne-Elite-Scanner-/252069519577?hash=item3ab083a0d9

That would be so cool to have but I couldn't afford the extension to the house that would be required!

They're a bit nice!

I'd love one of those. It's just the software bit that scares me, I didn't understand a word of the write up after it started on about software. :wideyed:

I have one already and the software isn't that difficult to use, plus I'm not even a mac person. I have it set up in a spare room, crank it up occasionally, do a scan, stick scan on memory stick and process in software i'm familiar with. Normally these are sold without the software rendering them useless, this has it so its a potential winner. The bed and the hold down part are made of anti newton acrylic and get scratched so that would be something to check. There's another chap with one on here as well.

Other chap reporting for duty!

Stop it, stop it, stop it. It's too big, it's too expensive and I would be in serious trouble if it turned up here.
