all nikon F mount cameras .. any Nikon with a D prefix

Thanks for the reply . I won’t be selling the D500 just adding another body , the last time I had a FF body was the D3s and I didn’t get a chance to use it due to heart failure that was about 7 years ago and it’s taken all this time to regain enough strength to cope with heavier gear again . The D810 is going for silly money if you search round though I would love a 850 they still command around 1K used

Hi, that' the way to go. By the way, I had a D800, and was quite happy with it, I gave it to my wife when I bought the D850.

That's an interesting view, I have been messing about with the D750 for a couple of weeks and this morning really appreciated the supreme balance and "stability" of the D3s. I said to myself on the way home "if I ever get too weak to hold this camera I will start a gentle weightlifting exercise program, with dumbells or something".

That cheered me right up, because if I cant hold that I will be too weak to go out and take pictures at all.

I wouldn’t wish heart failure on anyone ,I was recovering quiet well going to the gym etc and then lockdown hit us that took the icing right off the cake , yeah cakes far to many during and after lockdown ,that then led to type 2 diabetes. Luckily caught in time last Xmas and I’ve now lost over 4 stone and getting some go back , touching 80 now to so not doing to bad I guess

That's an inspiring story Jeff, your doing fantastic. Some days I think to myself I would settle for eighty now. Probably until I was 79 and 11 months.

as a matter of interest I had a play with my 200-500 .f5.6 on my sons Z8 today obviously using the adaptor . the results though really sharp all suffered from quiet bad vignetting .I was considering getting a Z8 and ditching my olympus gear but this has put me off I will stick to running two systems side by side as combined they give me the results I want . I can't afford to go the whole hog and get a z8 plus long reach lens so its been put to zzzzeds . I am still looking at full frame but it will be either a D810 OR D850 depending on finances at the time
Update .
After having a chat with my son I found out the vignette could be cured with one click ,just by enabling lens profiles in LR

Went for a late afternoon bimble in the forest around lac Montbel, looking for fungi - this caught my eye, a Arcyria sp slime mold, the first is the large crop of the full frame and the 2nd is the detail, each sporagia is circa 1-1.5mm tall :)

Nikon D810, Sigma 150 macro, tripod, remote release

Could be the end of an era for me, this is the last 'keeper' from my D90 which I've owned from new in 2009. Been having AF issues for a few weeks now and has finally given up altogether now. It can still be used as a MF camera, but at 65 my eyes aren't good enough for that. I prefer DSLR's to mirrorless but I must admit the IBIS in some cameras is tempting. Anyway, Amble Staithes Nikon D90 and Nikon 55-200mm.

Nice natural colours there Jak, it will take 4hrs PP to get back to that with a mirrorless...... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Don't start putting me off
Ha ha,

and yer big fat fingers will have to go through 4 layers of menu's on the tiny screen to get the right settings. ;)

I just read a story on another forum, argument about batteries, one chap says he has 60 batteries and seven chargers for mirrorless. :(

no new lenses
use yer batteries you got.

NB THAT HAS A CRACKED SCREEN I THINK USED AS EXAMPLE ONLY NOT RECOMMENDATION

they have some for 30 quid as spares!

link to full page 50 quid yer sorted

As an addition to this I’ve been using mirrorless for around 6-7 years mainly Olympus ,had virtually all there top end cameras in that time .yep there great ibis, bird I.d , lightweight etc but I also have a D500 and a selection of lenses and that’s becoming my go to combo for day to day shooting ..
I’ve also had the opportunity over the last couple of months thanks to my son getting back into photography to try out canon ,Sony and Nikon mirrorless bodies and lenses ..
In fact the other day tried out his Z8 with my 200-500vr nice good results but nothing that says to me buy one .. if I was you I’d look for a decent replacement for your D 90 there’s a vast selection available at good prices ,personally I use Wex as there customer service support is superb and there prices are often lower than e.bay chancers

Looks extremely good to me

more GAS..!

I have a Nikon D300, with my D90 in ''Sales''

but, browsing auction sites with a Kentucky Bourbon to hand (as you do), I'm now the owner of a D7100.......

which I gather has a steep learning curve.........hohum
as bought .jpg

WOW my F mount collection is growing fast in the past week I’ve acquired a 70-200mm F4 vr , a 10.5mm F2.8 fisheye and a 85mm F 1.8 ..think I had better stop there , but the F mount lenses are so cheap at the moment it’s hard to resist , now just need a decent FF body and rolling the last two cost me just over £ 100 each ..ridiculous prices when you realise what they were new
Just checked against new prices circa £1200 saving over new prices , and if I was using Z mount it’s what I would be looking at

Both images were taken with a 35mm lens on a D500. (If my memory serves me correctly) My fingers were frozen.

A couple of "fun" ones from a local fell race in the middle of winter. This stream was freezing. The runners still had 15 miles or so to run over to Edale. Felt guilty not jumping in to help.

I seem to have a bit of an internal argument with myself at times trying to decide if my D7500 is good enough or should I go back to mirrorless, had a G80 and E-M1.3 and others in the past but this thread reminds me that A) what I have is more than enough for me and B) the price of some F mount lenses are such a good deal now.

Thought I'd also post some pictures with my previous Nikons, first one was shot with a D300 and the AF-S 70-300 and the others are all D7000 with a DX 16-85mm, probably one of my favourite lenses, wouldn't mind trying the DX 16-80 though.

A cautionary tale , I’ve been using my D500 intermittently since purchase around 6 months ago and getting acceptable results , however using it yesterday and posting a few photos my lad noticed that the white balance was out , most of my pics had a blue tinge .. on checking the camera it was indeed set to white balance0 which is white cold .. I have never thought to check that before as I had done a full reset on purchase .
So I did another full reset then checked again ..
It seems that white balance0 is the default setting ,I have now changed it to normal so we shall see results later .. I realise that you can change WB in editing but I neglected to do that yesterday so it showed up in the photos .. hope this helps someone else …you never know .. there are 3 settings cold 0 , normal1, and warm 3

is there not a screen for selecting a WB anywhere on the colour spectrum? this is my D750 and 500 is newer

Camera settings
right pad for WB
right pad any of the options for adjustment screen
can be preset to you preference in each settings

WB settings-2.jpg

Are you just choosing from WB button and scroll?

I have that screen on my D3100 which is old and I have a white balance menu on my D70s which is older still

D3 has all regular WB inc auto and 6 custom presets. I am sure that I have seen on one of my camera's two auto so you can have a cold and a warm auto, each customizable, cant remember which.

That's a striking photo, well suited to B+W
Thank you, first time doing street in a city, Aberdeen, so it is not a big place, I have tried street in a small fishing town and on the city beach.
I am finding my way with what I do and the camera I use, yes I am very happy with yesterday and how it went, I am starting to find direction, and the B and W that is also a thing with me now, it works for me.
