all nikon F mount cameras .. any Nikon with a D prefix

Couple of pics here which I have put forward for a club competition.
Both taken with a D3100 and 35mm lens.
The people in the top pic ,On the phone, all of them.
I would love some feedback on this, be honest, I need to get told.

Hello Oldbones, some feedback from me fwiw !! The first has a greenish/cyan colour cast which can easily be fixed in your picture editor. The second is a well timed shot but maybe a little soft caused by camera shake/too low shutter speed. Also keep your eye on your framing as you have cut off the nearest fishermans feet, not a disaster but attention to things like this are what makes good pictures.

This is just my opinion, and there are much better photographers out there. First one I'd cut the bottom 5-10% off. It doesn't add much to the picture and a slightly more panoramic shape would make the scene look wider. I like the positioning of the people and the lack of sea. There is no nice wide view of the sea in their phone world.
You could get some separation of the left two people from the cliffs in the background by getting the camera higher Maybe by holding the camera right above your head and using live view to get the framing right.

Thank you so much, I am taking all this wonderful critique and as I look upon the photographs I can now really see what is being explained to me.
I am well aware that I wont fair too well in the club comps at this point but well we have all been there I would suspect.
And I do think as you and Jack Bell have said , framing is a very important thing.
I do really enjoy my camera's and indeed this thread on F mount with a D prefix.

My Nikon journey started in 1983 when I swapped a Pentax LX with a 50mm 1.7 for an FM with MD12, a 50mm 1.8 and a Tamron 90mm SP with my City and Guilds night school teacher, quickly followed by an FM2N then an F3HP, F4s and finally the F5 which I still own, D series I had D100, D200, D1X, D2X, D700, D3, D3s.

After lugging the Nikon kit around Thailand and Angkor Wat I decided I need something lighter, so went the Fuji way which I still use as my main kit.

I put a roll of B&W film through the F5 a month back as my boss wanted some "proper" photos of his new 911 Dakar and I loved using it again, so in the last couple of weeks I've got a D700, 50mm 1.8G and an 85mm 1.8G.

Everything just feels right, so it will be my hobby kit going forward.

D3100 35mm lens, this was done at a club night where we had club members posing for us to experiment.
There were a few of us taking pics of this lady and it was just lots of activity going on all at the same time.
So I took a couple of quick shots and moved out of the way to let other club members in.
Anyway it came out far better that what I was expecting and I am very happy with it.
Just luck really

Spent a few days in the south of the county, the Tyne valley, some lovely Autumn colours and a couple of misty mornings. All taken with D90 and Sigma 18-125mm.

Found this old car, Austin 6, on a walk.

Out again today in the forest photographing fungi, was looking for the small ones today and managed to get a image of Marasmius rotula on and in a very fetching acorn cup ! Nikon D810, Sigma 150 f2.8 macro tripod and remote release. These fungi are small !

As you can probably tell, this time of year here in S. France I tend to go into the forest to photograph fungi, have to move fast with some of them to get there before the foragers, but these ones are only hard to find due to size rather than anything else - Mycena tenerrima, the tallest is circa 6-7mm tall. Nikon D810, Sigma 150 f2.8 lens tripod and remote release.

A question for other users … I currently use a D500 and a 200-500mm f 5.6 vr lens and have several other lenses . I also have a fully functional Olympus/ oms setup .. both systems are used for wildlife ..
I have pondered replacing the D500 with a Z mount body to gain bird I.d but not sure I would gain that much from it … the other option I’m mulling over is just getting a D810 which would give me 36mp to play with but again I would lose reach so probably gain very little . I don’t really do much other than wildlife so more mp is a two edged sword .. any thoughts on this ?

Hi, normally, I only write about cams I own. I do not have a Z or a D810, the only "FF" NIKON I own and use is the D850.

I bought the D500 because it has very good AF performance. I am not sure about the AF performance of the Z series or the D810.

I would not sell my D500 before having tried your candidates.

Maybe, you can get a try-and-buy ...

I thought my D3s could do with a spin out, put on the 35-70 f2.8, this combo gives me the nearest to film, without any PP conversions etc, that I have managed to achieve. The rendering of the lens is beautiful in my view and subtly enhances the colours that I prefer. A couple from this frosty morning.

Thanks for the reply . I won’t be selling the D500 just adding another body , the last time I had a FF body was the D3s and I didn’t get a chance to use it due to heart failure that was about 7 years ago and it’s taken all this time to regain enough strength to cope with heavier gear again . The D810 is going for silly money if you search round though I would love a 850 they still command around 1K used
