Simon, I hope I'm wrong but that Battery cover looks like a BL-4 for the D3, not the BL-3 as listed. I'd ring them just to make sure.

You need to take the lens hood off lol!!!! Dont worry I've done it too :)

As above really First blower Then a Lenspen (keep one just for the sensor) Then wet clean with Eclipse, if needed. Finish with the blower again, if I have done a wet clean.
