Have a look at http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/questions-and-answers-3-w.asp#Deposits. Basically, you don't normally have to pay the deposit - it's only for certain specific situations. Feel free to talk to StewartR on here, who'll be happy to answer your questions. There's also a running...

    Two Lightroom Questions

A cursory google has come up with a plugin called Mogrify that adds functionality to the export dialogue box for adding borders, copyright text, etc. Linky.

    Sigma build quality

I have the Siggy 70-300 and the 12-24; I returned my first copy of the latter due to back-focussing, but the replacement has been a joy (and is very solidly built). I'd say that their problem isn't build quality, but quality control out of the factory. Bear in mind also that Sigma EX lenses...

And so it's Christmas, what did you get?

A Canon 580EX II from the parents, ordered from the ever-helpful and efficient Ian (Kerso/Santa?). Also a Redsnapper :D Merry Christmas everyone!

    "Do you do airbrushing luvvie?"

Is that not considered unbelievably cheesy though? On a related note, I was at a party the other day (didn't have my camera with me) and was at one point handed a point-and-shoot and asked to take a photo of a group. One of the ladies in the group (a friend of mine) said to me quietly "I'll...

    HDR - Your view.....

:agree: Hit the nail on the head there.

    The unsung heroes!

Another vote here for the Siggy 12-24. Also, I'm a big fan of the Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM - great on a crop body as a short, fast telephoto for indoor work (I used one a lot for theatre work).

40d (to buy or not to buy)

40D from 400D is a great and worthwhile upgrade - I convinced myself to do it on the strength of the high-ISO performance alone; that said, the handling (big hands didn't really suit the 400D to be honest) and build quality were big plus-points. Also, the increased bit-depth of the RAW files off...

    GoogleWave

I can see the utility of it as a collaboration tool, but I don't think it's reached the critical mass yet - you need to know enough people who also have it for it to actually be any use.

    Sigma EF-530 Woes

Already tried that I'm afraid Dave - I'm getting identical issues on two different sets of batteries, including one brand new straight-out-of-the-packet set of non-rechargables.

    Sigma EF-530 Woes

As far as I can tell it's seated properly, and the contacts aren't dirty (although just so I know, what's the recommended method of cleaning them?). Also, it behaved identically on two different cameras. An additional point that I neglected to mention was that the AF-assist lamp was also not...

    Sigma EF-530 Woes

My usually-reliable Sigma EF-530 Super flashgun caused me a little grief tonight. For some reason, the flashgun doesn't seem to want to communicate with the camera. In its normal auto mode, the flash will only fire at full output, leading to hugely over-exposed shots. It also won't auto-zoom...

Wide angle lens for 1D Mk III

Horses for courses I guess - the Sigma isn't as sharp as the 17-40, particularly wide open, but it's much wider, and has far less (read 'hardly any') distortion. There's always the old issue of getting a sharp copy of the Sigma; that said, good retailers are usually understanding about...

Sigma EF-530 Super - wireless trigger problem

I took that to mean that the author assumed you knew how to physically connect it...:suspect: I've just tried it in standard Manual mode, and no joy. The only mode where it will fire is in the mode described in that article, at which point it fires fine, apart from this rapid-fire business...
