Morning,

just two quick questions i hope someone could answer.

1- Is there any method of adding a border within Lightroom? i know i can do it in PS by extending the canvas but would ideally like to it in Lightroom.

2- In PS you can create your own actions, is this possible in LR, linking back to question one if a border can be created in LR then would like to be able to run an action to add it to photos.

Thanks

You can work with presets in LR. Go into the Develop module and edit one file how you want it, then click the + symbol in the presets panel (on the left hand side in LR2) this lets you add the edits as a user preset.

You can then choose to apply that preset on import or export to any new files. (Or individually through the Develop module).

Don't know about borders, not that I've seen. But then it's not something I've ever looked for.

EDIT: You can save user defined export settings as well. Which could cover some functionality of PS actions.

ah cool, thanks for that will keep looking about border option.

cheers

A cursory google has come up with a plugin called Mogrify that adds functionality to the export dialogue box for adding borders, copyright text, etc. Linky.

just reading tht it can possible be done with the image plate settings, so gonna look at that.

cheers for any suggestions offered

At the top of the print module you'll find an option to add a stroke border. You can vary the width and change the colour. The border is put inside the image, so if you want the image to be a specific size and the border in addition you have to resize the frame.

You can then save this as a new print template or simply right click on the template you are using and select "Update with current settings"

You can do stuff in Lightroom using photoshop actions as part of the export process. If you make a droplet you can run this from Export. At the bottom of the dialog you will see 'After Export' dropdown. Click 'Go to Export Actions Folder' and drop a shortcut to your droplet in the folder which appears. Close the Export dialog box

When you reopen the Export dialog box to export your images from Lightroom, your droplet will appear in that 'After Export' dropdown.

Export your images from Lightroom, with your new droplet selected, and once the images have finished exporting, they will automatically run your action.

cheers that sounds like a good solution but will also look at the other options

thanks

Another vote here for the Mogrify plugin, it's well worht the few $ that it costs.

The beauty of Lightroom is that is that you can edit multiple images really quickly. I like to use the syncronise settings option in the Develop module, but you can copy and paste settings, use presets etc, there are loads of options.

For anything that you want to be done to a "finished image", resizing, renaming, adding a border etc the export module is where you do that (and will find all the Mogrify options).

Another Mogrify fan here. It really is the best choice for borders and watermarking.
