You do what for a living?

(and no Canon 400 f2.8 is not for the studio, I haven't found a studio for using it yet)

I help people build a business on a part-time basis that provides a residual, continuing, income stream that ultimately gives them so many opportunities including the ability to walk away from the day job.

I'm an IT network manager got 3 kids so most of my money goes on them.

I work in a school so get 13 weeks holiday a year (all paid) so have plenty of time to go out and take photos

I'm out of work and have been since I was sixteen when I left school, a long time ago, or at least it feels like that  ..... I just love the wonderful benefits system we all enjoy. Anyway off to the yacht tomorrow for a bit of rest and relaxation :D

Excellent. Love it

I know where we are eating at the bournemouth meet then... :)

I'm a trainee teacher that has a very supportive wife, a small mortgage and no kids (as of yet)

I pay for my kit by selling photos of people sailing their yachts and boats at events. Dangling of a 4 metre boat in the rain and waves isnt for everyone, but I love it

Gas Engineer, turned full time photographer, turned full time Aircraft Component Inspector/Part time Photographer.

I change my gear all too often...currently working on film only (shock-horror people still use film!) ;)

Contract aircraft engineer / account manager. I fix aeroplanes and also organise and manage teams of guys who also fix aeroplanes.

IT manager in a school - I got to that point where I knew I needed a hobby (other than walking the dogs or nagging the other half) so I took the plunge after having a cheap bridge camera. Some kit I bought brand new, some of it second hand which helps balance out the cost.

Do you do your school photos? ;)

I'm a cage fighter,

Come on dont lower the sport to the "im a cage fighter" comments.

Everytime i hear a martial artist say that i always assume they are simply a wannabe, which i know your not as you train out of a good gym. Mixed martial artist please lets educate the masses. :)

Next time i am up your way or you are dont mine we will have to have a roll buddy.

Its interesting to see how many varied jobs we all have out there.

spudnuts, why not do what i have done, i havnt spent much money on kit as i bought a used 300d. why pay out tons of cash on something which you might lose interest in? if it all really takes off then pay out more later. in the meantime the 300d gives perfectly good images, when it was new it was one of the high end cameras

Lmao when ever I say I'm a mma fighter I always get the "what's that? Is it the same as boxing?" And then I get 101 questions so its easier to say cage fighter.

Tbh I really couldn't give a monkeys arse if people don't believe me lol.

Yeah would be good, let me know when your around my way and a roll will be on the list ;-)

Haha yep i know. Think how i get it when i was full time. What do you do for a living> I am a muay Thai fighter, o right Kickboxing..... arrrrrhhh NO Muay thai... The best way to show people the difference is then to elbow them or knee them to the face lol.

I do think more and more people are starting to get used to the term MMA fighter. The worst is when you get someone tell you " I am a UFC fighter" ha :bonk:

Lmfao. Yeah i had that at global gathering. I had a venum t-shirt on and someone said are you a ufc fighter I laughed and he said what u laughing at? I'm a ufc fighter don't laugh at me! I shook my head and said ufc? You train in ultimate fighting championship? He said what you on about? I said I think the term your looking for is mma! And yes I am an mma fighter!

MMA? I'm still not sure what that is...

I'm a medical sec, so definitely not a millionaire! Sold a horse a couple of years ago to get my kit and then bought a new lens by selling some images... now photography has taken a back seat for a year or so thanks to work, kids, horses filling my time but am now going to make time, I've missed taking pics!

i have a tile wholesale / retail business which needs a dslr, many lenses, flashguns, software, laptop, pc, lights, printer, tripod, bag etc...etc... etc... in order to function on a day to day basis :D

Mma is mixed martial arts.

I'm an ex countryside warden...illness and injury have put an end to that...certainly wasn't in that game for the money :D

I'm an NVQ Assessor/Internal Verifier.

Yep, it's as boring as it sounds!!

I'm a Supervisor for Britain's busiest Spar store*. Horrible job being a mix of management and till boy.

*Porbbaly well out of date figures, footfall has dramtically dropped in the last 5 years though cash seems to be staying constant.

I work in IT, well kinda. My jobs a little difficult to explain as the company I work for is pretty unheard of but it's the largest 3rd party electronic payment processor in the World (for those in Essex, Basildon it's First Data  )

Money's not great but it does pay the mortgage on my 1 bedroom flat, I've owned the same car (from new) for nearly 11 years, I don't smoke, I'm too old to go out clubbing every week so I do have some disposible income to treat myself to new toys :geek::thumbs:

However, my girlfriend moved in with me in June, I proposed to her at the beginning of July and it looks like we're getting married on 30th June next year so I'm REALLY glad I bought my 7D, 15-85, 100-400L and Nissin 866i in Jan/Feb

No, it wasn't. The 300D was entry level, the first relatively affordable DSLR, when it came out. I'm not criticising the camera as such, it can still take good photographs, but there are better options now. Buying used gear makes a lot of sense.

Oh God, I did NVQ3 in Environmental Conservation...used half a rainforest in paper :bonk:

That sounds about right! We do an IT NVQ yet everything is paperbased!!

Go figure!

MMA? I'm still not sure what that is...

MMA= Mixed martial arts. Its a sport the that combines Boxing, Muay thai, Wrestling, BJJ and other martial arts. Often peolpe fight in a cage (more traditional a ring with an extra rope) so it is often refered to as cage fighting.

The thing is these days people spend one day at a boxfit class and that means they are in the UFC. I dont dare wear half my MMA clothing. Even twins short seem to be regular gym wear.

The only twins gear I have are gloves (real not fake)

Makes me laugh when I see people in tapout t-shirts then you know they are a 1st class wanabe.

something like a used 20/30/or 40D would make a lot of sense - or a 400 or 450D

I recently bought a 2.5 year old 450D (with reportedly low use) with a battery grip and 4 batteries from mpb for £330 - that was to replace my 300D as my second body

Milton keynes particularly seems to be full of people who are mma wannabes -As i mentioned on another thread a few years ago when i lived in MK i had a bit of bother with a guy who was stalking/harrasing a female freind of mine who claimed that he was a UFC/MMA fighter. When I fronted him up he start giving all this lip about how i better not mess with him because he trains with all these top dudes and such..

I only gave him a little tap (all be it with my forehead) but all I can say is unless rolling on the floor and crying like a baby is a recognised MMA move  - he may have been slightly :whistling: exagerating his prowess

Full time Structural engineer & glazing specialist.
Part time photographer.

Neither pays well at all.

I'm a visual effects technical director, which basically means I do computer generated effects for movies. Just finished on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 and Captain America. It pays pretty well, but all my cash seems to go on my 2 1/2 year old daughter and the new house I had to buy when we had to get her a bedroom of her own.

Still, with a small whirling dervish in the house there is always something to photograph

is she a tog too?

:D

She does have a kids digital camera, and is obsessed with the picture and video capabilities of her mum's mobile phone....so I guess she may well be. Better start saving for more equipment I suppose. Hmm, I wonder if I can use that as an excuse to upgrade:D

Yep the problem in MK is there is about 4 gyms. 2 of the gyms are top level and actually with some of the best coaches and biggist names in uk mma over the past 10 years. The result is that people do a week on the mats and think that makes them the best fighter in mma history when infact they spend there time getting wrapped up by beginners.

They never last long in any good gym as ego just wont cut it.

i Have loads of twins gear. 18oz gloves , 12oz gloves, MMa sparing gloves, 4 pairs of shorts, Groin guard and shins. Twins is the dogs mate. All of it was directly from the factory. Living in Thailand got me a fair bit of cheap gear. ;)

I'm a dock worker, pays for my expensive hobbies :-)
