Don't be shy in quoting, I don't bite ...I find it hilarious that people are still talking about Windows 7!
What's the point it fixing something that isn't broke?

But my 1st Gen i5 Quad Core 760 is not on the list. Edit ~ oddly it is not even on the W10 listing :banghead: but it clearly works Don't be shy in quoting, I don't bite ...

Like XP it soon won't be safe to use online.Windows 7 was great, the key part being was. It was released 11 years ago and Windows 10 is a perfectly good OS.
Really hope no-one is still running 7 as unless you have a support agreement with Microsoft, you aren't getting updates.
If you currently have Windows 10 installed in Legacy BIOS, do not change that to UEFI just so you can check for Windows 11 compatibility, that will stop Windows 10 from booting, because your drive is MBR and it needs to be GPT for UEFI Bios
And you believed them???I thought M'soft said 10 was going to be the last upgrade, and that all that would come in the future was bug fixes and security fixes as and when necessary?
No. I am neither that naive nor stupid. In addition I have been a mac user for 6 years now...And you believed them???
I've been using Linux Mint for a couple of years now and for many things it beats Windows, but the best solution is the one I have - run almost everything in Virtual Machines - so much easier - or run Linux and Windows together.Groan . . . they've finally got Win10 stable after its plethora of 'fixes' and now they want to start all over again with a bloody Apple emulator.:banghead:
Time to finally make a permanent move to Linux for me I think . . .
It seems stable enough now the early adopters have ironed out all the bugs, as I said I may think about switching, but then again maybe not..It was released 11 years ago and Windows 10 is a perfectly good OS.
All I'm interested in is the security up dates, and I get those regularly ( mostly daily)you aren't getting updates.
They have increasingly masked the facility to have a local account in W10 Home.
I suspect many people installing W10 Home end up being 'forced' to use a MS account because of the way they are directed during the install.

You can still get FREE versions of CS2 quite legally:I don't use light room, but I have CS5 on disc. I'm really glad I went for the disc option years ago, rather than going for the download option.

For PS7 you're basically just saying pirate it. It was never made freely available by Adobe. CS2 was made available for download, but this was only intended for licensed users. The original Adobe page is mirrored here:You can still get FREE versions of CS2 quite legally:
Or if you want FREE PhotoShop (very old) I have a vid on my YT channel showing how to get it:
CS3 also won't install from disc without the activation servers, so you'd need a copy of one of the activation-free installers that are much harder to find than the CS2 versions, or some dodgy hack.I have CS3 on a disc from many years ago, plus of course the afore mentioned CS5.
As before I'm now on CS5 so I may sell the cs3 disc for a couple of grandCS3 also won't install from disc without the activation servers, so you'd need a copy of one of the activation-free installers that are much harder to find than the CS2 versions, or some dodgy hack.
People are still flogging CS3&4 for hundreds on ebay. They're going to have some pretty disappointed customers! As before I'm now on CS5 so I may sell the cs3 disc for a couple of grand

I'm running Win 7 on some of my Virtual Machines and Windows Defender is still being updated regularly.

Windows 11 if anything W10 is anything to go by, with all this new "stuff" will be a total joke for a couple of years ...

Past January 2020, you no longer get Windows 7 security updates. That is different to Defender updates.
For instance, many banks have stopped you logging in from Windows 7 because it is no longer guaranteed secure.
Also, Windows 10 has been out for quite some time. Practically every corporate in the world has moved to it, other than some specific uses. Stability is not an issue.
Works for meThat is different to Defender updates.
My bank stopped me from logging in with Opera, claiming that wasn't secure, sometime ago, FF wasn't a problem ..For instance, many banks have stopped you logging in from Windows 7
As I said, it seems OK now, the 1st 2 years were a nightmare though.Stability is not an issue.

However if they do block W7 in the future my local branch is 5 mins in the car, if they shut the local branch (its been there 50 years to my knowledge)
Then the very large main branch is 10 mins in the car.
I'm always happy to chat to a cashier. So tech is not the be all and end all, of life as we know it.
As I said, it seems OK now, the 1st 2 years were a nightmare though.
( you only have to read through a lot of threads on here, other forums and general person to person chat.)
As before, there are lots of things that people must have,/ want as far as tech goes,
most of which I have no need for, I never fix what isn't broken.
Well both my bank accounts have no problem with me logging in from Windows 7.
TBH I'm not even sure why I have been justifying my life choices to a complete stranger, especially one who's responses are filled with so much negativityYou are arguing against using an operating system that is almost certainly a free upgrade, and your machine will almost certainly run, because it would be easier to physically go to the bank rather than use online banking?
If that’s your position then enjoy Windows 7!
Then don’t.TBH I'm not even sure why I have been justifying my life choices to a complete stranger, especially one who's responses are filled with so much negativity![]()
I am one the majority of PC users who can not move to Win 11, even though mine is less than five years old and otherwise we'll specified..

What network issues did you have with Windows 10?Too be honest Win 7 is my favourite version to date.
It just worked and no silly networking issues.
When I bought a laptop it came with Win 8.1 which was eventually upgraded to Win 10.
Now I have different laptop running Win 10.
When I built my desktop, the previous one ran Win 7 for a good 10 years.
What network issues did you have with Windows 10?
|
Already done thatMap the network drive by IP and use the user name as ipaddress\username. It’s to do with it trying the username you are logged in as to connect to the new machine.
Browsing network drives hasn’t worked properly since XP. Always easier to direct connect.
Can you Ping between the two machines?
Thanks for that, I had a quick look and must have missed it.That one lasted about 2 minutes on my PC:
Right click on taskbar -> News and interests -> Turn off
Well I have started using LibreOffice, it works for me, but I have no corporate requirements anymore. The non-subscription versions of Office aren't exactly prominent on the MS website these days, though they still exist for now.
Didn't last long, back on with the next bootup. Thanks for that, I had a quick look and must have missed it.
