Okay, I've taken a look at the voting and the shot that's in second place defintitely isn't a candid shot, the photographer even says he asked the subject to pose! :shake:
At present there are too many tied for the third place to award the prize, so if things remain as they are the options are...
1) Do a second round of voting, with those entries that got less than the third place number of votes and those that are obviously not candids, removed
or 2) I pick the winners, either from the over all entry pool or from those left after number 1
True, but was posted by a fellow tog who has same on his site if your referring to the video, you have to admit the vid is pretty accurate.
The only set of potential clients it may offend I suppose are the people who want dog portraits, and I am separating my sites up and full redesign as we speak.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention, will have to watch my twitter language.

Nope, never watched any video.
Just click on your homepage and wait for the second post to come up in the red box.
Sorry, it was the 8th but must have changed.

That's because I had to do a complete new thread with a new poll :annoyed:![]()
..

Well this whole thing is daft.
Ive never come across such a dis-jointed comp.People complaining and even begging for votes....sad!
Well if you have done one or both of those things................you yourself will know![]()
People photographed on candid shots either IGNORE or ACCEPT the close presence of the photographer's camera without deliberately posing or acting up.
There's one at every wedding! A little gem she was!
Looking for more confetti.

I believe my picture falls within the defination of candid... I havent seen your image will have a look but would you agree my picture falls within the correct defination? I am curious to know.

), as the organiser I'd pick the winners myself from all the entries that I personally felt met the brief. Okay, I've taken a look at the voting and the shot that's in second place defintitely isn't a candid shot, the photographer even says he asked the subject to pose! :shake:
Ive only just noticed this after nicks post.
Checking the votes that makes it my shot your refering too.Now without starting another controversy or teaching grandma to suck eggs,I completely disagree with you that it is not a candid shot."
Some context:.
This little 6yr girl was sitting on her own on a stool by a fruit machine watching the adults party and have fun.
She was already sat in a natural way and I neither asked her to pose or sit or act in any particular way.
When I asked to take her picture she of course accepted my presence but in no way was her reaction acting up or posing for the camera, she was not directed by me or influenced whatsoever. It was a completely off the cuff, spontaneous funny reaction that she couldnt possibley realise what she had done.It was at that point that I pressed the shutter.
Candid..............it screams candid, whether its the funniest is a different matter![]()

candid shot in other words means without them realising
you have asked her so it is not candid this is what they are saying
for example you catch a funny moment but people dont realise you have taken the shot this is classed as a candid shot but if you ask them it is not
Then you need to refer to your wiki definition you posted,as you seem to think candid means "not aware of".
Thats not the defintion.
The candor is in the actions of the subject.
Not strictly true, I shoot candids, the people I shoot know I'm going to shoot them, but they are so immersed in their world for one reason or another they get on with their life while I get shots.
This has produced some great shots for me, and is still candid by definition.
Amuses me how many people seem to base "beliefs" and have trust in Wiki when anyone can edit them!!
Some professional photographers develop candid photography into an art form. Henri Cartier-Bresson might be considered the master of the art of candid photography, capturing the "decisive moment" in everyday life over a span of several decades. Arthur Fellig, better known as Weegee, was one of the great photographers to document life in the streets of New York to often capture life and death at their rawest edges. Almost all successful photographers in the field of candid photography master the art of making people relax and feel at ease around the camera, they master the art of blending in at parties, of finding acceptance despite an obvious intrusive element - the camera. This is certainly true for most celebrity photographers, such as René Burri, Raeburn Flerlage or Murray Garrett.
It could be argued that candid photography is the purest form of photojournalism. There is a fine line between photojournalism and candid photography, a line that was blurred by photographers such as Bresson and Weegee. Photojournalism often sets out to tell a story in images, whereas candid photography simply captures people living an event.

What he said also^^
First line of wiki def....."Candid photography is photography that focuses on spontaneity rather than technique, on the immersion of a camera within events rather than focusing on setting up a staged situation or on preparing a lengthy camera setup".
And also from a sunsequent paragraph
"People photographed on candid shots either IGNORE or ACCEPT the close presence of the photographer's camera without posing".
yes that is what im saying otherwise no one would winNot strictly true, I shoot candids, the people I shoot know I'm going to shoot them, but they are so immersed in their world for one reason or another they get on with their life while I get shots.
