In Winter, the horse is sorted reasonably early so we try to get dinner on the table for about 7. In he summer, Sue will take advantage of the light evenings and often go for a ack so we tend to eat later.
WRT post #4, easy answer - bin hers and tell her to sort her own out at her convenience! She has to learn that she's NOT the centre of the universe and that you're not her personal slave/bank/whatever!
Before I moved south, it was always 'tea' and we ate about 5-30 - 6, which was what I was brought up with, but these days its 'dinner' and depending on our schedules, can be any time between 7 and 9pm, if its later than that, I prefer to call it 'supper' so I dont feel as bad about eating so late![]()
I'm a grazer rather than dinner tea etc but I do sit down to eat at five with the wife.

You're a Hobbit. Hobbits eat at least seven meals known as breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and supper.

Eating smaller meals through out the day is the healthy way to eat. It gives the body time to digest what it needs and doesn't need to store anything which will likely turn to fat.

Just that I don't like the way food is still "sitting" in the stomach when I get into bed if I eat later on the evening as that would then cause me to wake up in the middle of the night feeling bloaty and sweaty.
Besides, once I've done and had the dinner then it leaves me with the rest of the day to relax and if I do get peckish in the evening then I'll munch on a packet of crisps or cheese on biscuit.
surprised at the number of people who eat so late, 9pm!! thats crazy.
granted if its a meal out or a curry takeaway etc then I will eat that late but regular eating time has to be before 6pm surely. I thought it was really unhealthy to eat late at night?

8pm I can't believe how late some of you are eating. I'm onto supper by then!5-5.30 here.

A lot of it is down to other time constraints. Most days, I don't get home fro work until 6pm. My wife works in Central London and has to go and bring in and feed the horse so 7pm is the very earliest we can eat but it is often later as I really don't want to start preparing dinner as soon as I walk in the door.
As far as a healthy time to eat is concerned, I think that may depend on what time you go to bed. For us, it's around 11:30.
Well Joe, husband started work at 9am this morning, and will not finish until 9pm this evening. He will not get the opportunity to eat anything but a snack during the day, so what else can he /we do? I eat with him when I can because it's time we get to talk, but as my habits have to be a tad more structured that's not always possible.
I guess it is a sign of the times that the main meal with the family takes a second seat to other priorities in our lives. It's a shame that we have lost that identity.
If my life meant I couldn't eat till that late I would seriously have to make a change somewhere, which would probably be to eat a larger lunch and just have a sandwich in the evening or something. I couldn't be eating at 9pm and if I was in my bed at 11.30pm every night, way to close to bed time. Once in a while I will on a takeaway night or a meal out but couldn't do it regularly.
