What car do you drive?

I'm still on the 2002 Honda Accord @ 73k

Only failed component/part was a £5 washer jet one-way valve, think it broke due to freezing last winter.

Wear and tear items replaced;
3sets of tyres, 1 set rear discs, both front and rear pads @ 36k, 2 sidelights.

Still on original battery and front discs.

If I could have a second car it would be an MX5 and on the subject, the Xmas Topgear will feature one on their middle eastern adventure ;-)

Saw the ad for this last night, I can't wait for TG to start again. The Iraq adventure should be good but I don't think anything will beat the Antarctic adventure - that was awesome.

Somebody really really wants their parking space left alone....

Israel....

I'm pretty sure Iraq would still be a tad on the dangerous side :naughty:

Yeah, that was pretty good. Also liked the Vietnam one, looks an astonishing country particularly Ha Long Bay.

All part of the charm!

I read something on another forum that made me laugh

When Nissan launched the new Patrol they wanted to test the wading abilities of the car, to test it was water tight they put a cat in it, closed the doors and windows and left it overnight.

When they came back in the morning the cat was dead

Not to be outdone Land Rover applied the same test to the new Defender

The cat was shut in with all the doors and windows closed

When they came back the next morning the cat had escaped

I found this to be true when I jet washed the outside and the inside of mine with the doors and windows shut :D

My landie could have been used as a torture device. I spent a night in it once and throughout the whole night there was as steady drip of cold water on to my foot and another onto my forehead. Not to mention where the gear stick ended up.

vw golf...2001 model 1.6S...had it from new

get it serviced regularly by vw or vw independents

Great pic of your current Civic Alan. I'd love to get a shot like that of mine.

Thanks, I looked outside and saw the sky colour whilst having tea, grabbed the camera and shot off to Uwchmynydd to take the pic! Never let food spoil a photo!:D

They had some pretty big delivereies arrive as they hired out marquees - and the standard of parking on that street was pretty poor, I hate to thing how much aggri theyd been caused over the years.

You can't see it but further up the street is another Celica, a red GT4 version of mine!

There's a few here who have the BMW 320D ED and although they are definitely built cheaper than the standard BMW 3 series (to save weight), their engines really are outstanding. 0-60mph in less than 8 seconds but can also return almost 70mpg! Now that is good!

The ED cars have Efficient Dynamics, which does not have any weight saving over the previous car. P.S. Once the ED cars were introduced the "standard" was dropped - there is no alternative.

I'm not sure what you are seeing about cheaper build? Cheaper build than what?

Heres our guilty pleasure, not everyones cup of tea but this is our 3rd Impreza and its definately the best, hated the looks to start with. Great in the snow aswell !!

I have spent all my working life with cars, and the last 14 yrs with Bmw, so its nice to drive something different.

Wasn't my words, it was the BMW dealer saying it to our employee test driving it. Apparently he said to brace yourself before going in as it won't seem like your usual BMW with regard to quality and will feel "cheaper". I just assumed he was talking about this particular model but maybe it's all the new ones?

For me it just doesn't seem to have that BMW solid look to it. Great engine though, very impressive figures.

Definitely Iraq: Clarkson's been talking about it on Radio 5 just now.

But do you think he could point out Iraq and/or Israel on a map? It was possibly supposed to be Israel but he missed the turning.

They have to get from Iraq to Israel.

I am not at liberty to divulge more... :suspect:

He has actually been there...
I shook hands with him in Baghdad once - middle of Summer, sweltering humidity and boy did he look p'd off...lol

i used to have a mini like that..

over bored to 1380cc, forged dish pistons, lightlened/balanced/knifed crank, large valve head, HIF44 carb, kent 286 cam, straight cut box..

excellent :D

I like SU carbs, especially the HS series, although I go DCOE for outright power.

Can you lot get a room please? ;) It's reminding me of this: Car Scene

Moses had the same problem.

He led the Children of israel out of the Land of Egypt, parted the Red Sea and led them across it ... and if he'd turned right instead of left, they'd have had oil instead of oranges! ;)

I like SU carbs, especially the HS series,

Bah! Driven with one lately? I'm trotting round town these days in a 998 Mini and over the last twenty years I'd forgotten just how weirdly SU carbs respond!

[hand profiled needle time, I guess]

yup.. was soooo cool though :D

(once when i parked up i had some guy come up to me and tell me my gearbox must be knackered..)

doesn't surprise me.. at least it wasn't gratuitous though, like those silly exhausts that so many kids have on their cars these days.

Must have made one hell of a racket...

Mini gearboxes whine even when they are conventional helical gears ...

The transaxle in my Davrian is straight cut and dog engagement. Pelting along in 5th at 108mph (9000rpm) it makes almost as much noise as the induction and exhaust!

loooooooooooong time ago...this one...all the luxury extras
leather seats
sunroof
front opening doors
topped 40 mph with a following wind...and filled the car with smoke and carbon monoxide
wipers are hand operated and brakes chain activated

a remapped mk4 golf gti 1.8 20valve turbo, it'll be 11 years old next month but i still love it. fast enough to be entertaining but low-key enough not to attract the attention of the boy racer brigade (of which i'm a former member going by my previous car history according to my girlfriend lol). it hasn't been washed since about august and is more brown than black now, but it still carries the shopping home from tescos and takes me and the better half to work. plus it has red seats which, in my 6 year old nephews enlightened view, make it cooler than his dads car and goddammit that's good enough for me.
if i was in a position to buy a newer car i'd probably only buy a fresher version of the gti. if only i could be as satisfied with my camera i'd be sorted lol

well all you lot with ya snazzy machines, ill soon sort that out :bonk:

Renault Kangoo RXi, blooming lovely to drive it is, big load of space for the kids, huge boot space great for camping, tax dirt cheap, drinks next to nothing and we have the lift up back door version which is ace for shelter and even better with the Outwell canopy when picnic'ing..

do I win? :bonk::razz::D

Yes...

You win the 'Ugly Shi'ite French Car Owner' award...:D

Oh I love cars... I've always loved big Citroens so I recently got a top of the range Citroen C6... I'll add a pic in a bit. This thing is amazingly comfortable, all seats are heated and reclining (based on TGV seats) and it's very rapid with it's 2.7 twin turbo V6

Cheers
