What are you currently reading..

I'm getting Deja vu.

The book of common prayer, the texts of 1549,1559 & 1662.

There's a lot of our history tied to the various texts, from the reformation to the current day.

Hellhole by Kevin Andersen and Brian Herbert

Oh god no - how can tiny tom possibly be big jack - Even I'd make a better jack reacher at least i have the height if not the build (maybe tom will decide to stay behind the camera as director and cast someone like Karl Urban - we can hope)

Indeed. I thought Gerard Butler or Chris Hemsworth might be good too.

And on topic, currently reading Dr No, Ian Fleming.

What do you think of it? I found trying original bond to be not as fun as I thought it would be

"Kim", Dr No (in particular) is improved by the image of Arsula Undress as Honeychile Ryder emerging from the sea singing... Even in print, she instantly springs to mind!!!

No and no.
However the last 2 choices in this list made me giggle like a loon.

*Edit* Reacher has to be someone who is gorgeous because of how MAN they are...not just their face.

so that's me then ;) :exit:

how about Hugh Jackman - he doesn't do a great deal for me , but he's certainly ripped and a versatile actor to boot

Pete Pete Pete.....Obviously your name has been forwarded....no response yet? ;)

Hugh Jackman.....gorgeous, but Reacher? NO!!

i'm English - Reacher is from a place called military

clearly they are keeping me in reserve to play joe hunter when the matt Hilton books are adapted

Saying nothing.

Sure you're a woman Ruth? Woman =/= silent!!!

I must be enjoying as I'm racing through it at a fair old lick. I think this book is very close to the film (not that that bothers me, I just enjoy them for what they are, 50-60 year old classic fiction) I'm reading through the Fleming books in order of writing (but not one after another) so this is my 6th one now, enjoyed them all.

I found casino royale really dull, old fashioned and far too detailed...it must have taken a genius to drag a decent film script from it

Its "old fashioned" because it was written in the 1950's. Thats how life was then - old fashioned.

You wouldnt read a Dickens novel and then say it was carp because they didnt have mobile phones in it would you.

I've been trying to send a PM to Macicaxeman to say a great big THANKS! But I don't think they are going for some reason.

Thanks Ian!

Wrong thread me thinks

still working my way through the game of thrones series, currently on A feast for Crows

There hasn't been a decent Casino Royale film script

The David Niven Bond was csmp chronic and unbelievable

The David Craig Bond is (IMHO) the best personnage of thd character but the film tries to do too much and rushes the whole thjng.

The book perfectly portrays the prriod it was written in and reflects the post war period and tendions. The Russians and their allies are not the dnrmy now.

S

The BBC commissioned a radio production of the story - was excellent. It turns up on Radio 4 extra now and then.

Oh I normally read history, so "old" fashioned isn't a problem exactly, it's just that it's pretty old even for the period it's set in.

Anyway, I'm on the John Gardner ones now, which are more palatable to me

After Dr No I thought Id come a bit more up to date ;), so I'm now reading Wilbur Smith - When The Lion Feeds (again, first read it when I was a nipper.) 1964 published date!

Enjoyable and easy reading. I'll probably revisit a few more of his older ones. Sean Courtney main character, I reckon Reacher would have had a fight on his hands if they ever squared off! :D

I've just finished that trilogy - dirk courtney is a real little sod - if i was sean i'd have shot him in the head at an early stage and fed him to a passing lion
