WCMUT....what cheered me up today

Last year I planted a few chilli seeds. They germinated and grew well, but because I started them too late in the season, they did not produce any fruit.

I have read you can overwinter chillies but also that it is sometimes/often not successful.

Perhaps I was lucky but this plant is the one I overwintered and it is now producing loads of fruit.

It is a variety called Purple Princess and is an attractive plant even without the chillies, but I'm pleased it survived and seems to be doing well.

I've had a few of the chillies. They are hot - not Scotch Bonnet hot - but still good and quite fruity.
Mrs WW grew chillis last year and said they're very strong.

Last year I picked up a few Buddleia cuttings as I wanted some more pollinator attractive plants in the garden. One is now almost 2m tall and has just come out with a small purple cone. I've got a 2nd Buddleia, not doing as well which I am going to move to the front garden so it gets all the afternoon sun.

I've never been much of a gardener, but since moving here (and having a bit more time) I have quite enjoyed doing some "green stuff", I grew some huge Sunflowers last year, and although they've now gone, I planted wild Poppy seeds this year and the they turned out well too. I did some Cosmos plants as well this year which, have been so-so, but the ones that have flowered are very pretty.

Just looking forward to my apples, that is, if the Blackbirds & Sparrows leave me any!!

WCMUT was seeing a Red Kite. Not a big deal in some parts of the country, I know but they're still not a common sight down here. It was flying over the Otter, just downstream from Otterton Bridge.

I'll be down that way on Wednesday, got a couple of deliveries in Exeter and another in Exmouth. Not looking forward to the traffic!!

One of my g*lf buddies lives in Exmouth and was moaning about roadworks on the A376 but a quick look at the AA traffic page doesn't throw up any significant delays. From the George and Dragon pub towards Exeter (over the M5 junction) was no problem at all at about 13:30 today.

If you have time for a coffee in Exeter in the morning, it would give me an excuse to not go out to see Mrs Nod's Mum!!! But fully understand time pressures involved.

Could be the perambulating Jurassic Fibre holes.

A few days back, they were digging on the bottom end of Winslade Park Avenue, where it runs parallel to the A376, so they could have jumped over the ditch and be disrupting the Exmouth Road.

After all: No One Expects the Jurrasic Fibre Diggers!

Yesterday morning at 8.00am I started to paint the part of the garden swing that was Cuprunol 'Willow Green' with the intention of finishing this morning the cream bits. I've used this 'Shades' paint for years so when I came to use the 1Lt tin of Country Cream I could see straightaway that it wasn't the thick viscosity it should have been..the green was ok. I did try a few brush strokes but it 'ran'. What to do ? The tin had been opened. I called Akzonobel (Slough) who own the brand along with other brands including Duluxe. I was fortunate to speak to a first class customer care person ..Tariq. I told him that I'd used the product since the swing was installed years ago and never had a probblem and that the Willow Green paint (2.5Lt tin) was fine. I suspected there was a batch problem so no point in going back to Range, where I bought them. He asked me for the batch number on the base of the tin and then told me that it was produced only last Sept. He will get the batch checked immediately .He then asked me if I would accept a voucher to get a new one. £11.40 Yes, No problem. better than sending a new tin. I said I wasn't calling to complain because these things happen but to ask advice as what to do and more to the point alert them to a problem and he thanked me for that. He's now sending me not one but two vouchers so I can get two 1Lt tins. I said I'd go to the Duluxe store..further away than Range but it would avoid the possibilty of picking up a tin from the same batch. Then I realised I have the batch number so I'll check.

It's great when you get a such a good response.

WCMUT was managing to get my X-H1's sensor bunny* free. I've tried before but the IBIS system has always defeated me - the floating sensor kept moving under the swab! Loads of googling, utube watching etc. told me how to keep the bu99er still so a couple of swipes could do the job.

*I say bunny but the built in sensor cleaner seems to be able to shift dust pretty well, the offending blobs were more stubborn so probably pollen or similar - gone now!

Had to have a package picked up by RM and their original timeline was between 01:00 today and 00:59 tomorrow... An update narrowed it down to 10:50-12:50 and it was picked up at 11:17. Shame the (recommended) power bank (Anker) wouldn't take a charge.

WCMUT? Getting in from work, switching the radio gear on to hear a chap in the Falklands. And making contact with just a low power transmitter and a bit of wire hanging in the garden. 12,500 kms, and he's the same guy that reported the Argentinian Invasion 40 years ago.

Radio makes me happy.....

I used to be a SWL a long time ago, was this using traditional morse code and what band were you using?

You managed it on 10? I'm impressed, I'd have expected it on 20.

I've not been active for many years now due to housing (antenna) issues, but I'm toying with the idea of a mobile setup now everything is so small and light.

We're starting a decent sunspot cycle, and the Sporadic E on 10m is great. Worked Germany & Spain from the car earlier today on 10m....

The last time I worked anything on 10 with SE was in 1982. Where does the time go?

I heard on the radio today that a chess-playing robot broke the finger of a 7 year old boy during a championship game in Moscow.. The reason ,it seems, was that the lad went to make his move too quickly so the robot grabbed his finger.

I've found a report of the incident.

#7582 :(

Robots are soft! If a 7 year old was beating me at chess I’d break all his fingers.

I think I've seen this before but it's worth seeing again...

WCMUT?

This has to be a first, my ( any) insurance company.
Car swap time, obviously insurance swap time too.
Easy done on line and a lot cheaper than I thought it would be.

BUT the total fee ( balance + money paid already.) is actually more expensive than a cancel and new provider.
However this way, I get to insure the new one, and get 24hrs grace on the old one. (P eXing it)
I'll pay the "extra" for the convenience.
But it'll be back to the meerkat next year.

On the insurance theme, the motorbike quote this year was £15 less then last year, at £100.08p.

That cheered me up today.

If it's the GTC, they are mean looking things. Please don't tell me it's Kingfisher blue, as I will be extremely jealous. ;)

I almost bought a red one in May 2021 but plumbed for the Megane instead, the Megane being £20 a year road tax.
