WCMUT....what cheered me up today

I'm not a hippy! (WAY too little hair these days!!!)
Last time we met IIRC you had a fair bit?

If anyone tries this could you post how it was ?
That sounds interesting (y)
I'll buy the ingredients next time I go shopping and report back.
I might even crush some strawberries into the mix as well.

Best not to crush strawbs or any other fruit into it because it...of course... freezes. I wanted to do that with one of my favourite fruits,.,.blueberries but it would be like biting on hailstones. I'm going to see if I can find out how the manufacturers do it.

There's another recipe my wife has dug up ..written on an ageing piece of paper..lol and it's ice cream made with eggs. No need for an ice cream-maker for that one either .It's yellowy because of the yokes and creamy but so is the is the one above..ie creamy but by far that one above is a doddle. I can guarantee..almost...lol that you will enjoy it so much you'll be putting on the pounds..:D

Nothing wrong with crunchy bits :D
Besides I bet the fruit will thaw out pretty quickly.

There's crunchy and crunchy :D. Here's an idea. Put a small portion into a container with some strawbs and see how they are. If they're ok you can still add them to the rest of the ice cream as you eat it and next time..and I'm sure there will be a next time...then you can add them into the mix.

Thanks for letting me know how you get on.

Don't thank me just yet, I would have slept a couple of times, before my next shopping trip :D

Thanks to lockdown I tried various frozen fruits and most were like blocks of ice to eat. The only ones edible from frozen are black cherries for some reason.

I‘m surprised you don’t need to stir the ice cream a few times while freezing — that’s usually necessary to stop big ice crystals forming.

I spoke to my wife about how the manufacturers get blueberries etc in the ice cream the way they do. She said they caramelise it.

Here's that other recipe my wife has which I mentioned. Also easy.

2 eggs 50gms/2 oz of sieved icing sugar 1/4 > 1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla essence 300mls of double cream.

I've copied the instructions. Whip the cream with an electric hand blender until it thickens into 'peaks' (do not over-whip) Whisk the eggs/icing sugar and vanilla until thick, very pale and creamy. You should see the traces of the whisking clearly. Fold the cream into the egg/icing sugar/vanilla mixture . Pour/scoop into your container and freeze.

It states it needs 1/2 > 3/4 of an hour to soften enough to eat but I just dig a couple of spoonful out when my wife isn't about...:D if I need a taste and not some for desserts.

See what this lady does re her fruit. She pours the double cream on her fruit pieces and blends it .As you see when you start making your own it tends to put weight on so be aware :D

No. One recipe stated never to do that. Ours hasn't crystallised. I made some more myself today it's so easy. Re the fruit. ..how to do that is in the Youtube above.Blend with double cream.

I posted this in another thread but I'd like to post it here too.

This was possibly the best sunrise I've seen my life, it was just truly stunning and the picture can not do it justice.

As Melanie Safka said in one of my favourite songs...

"Why sleep when the day has been called out by the sun
From the night 'cause the light's gonna shine on everyone
Why sleep when the sleep only closes up our eyes
Why sleep when we can watch the sun a-rise
We were meant to see the beginning of the day
I believe it was planned to lift us this way"

Have to admit, the only Melanie Safka song I knew was Look What They've Done To My Song so googled this one. Lovely song.

Ah, sorry. I should have included the title, "Baby Day."

Got a little bit lucky with an external hard drive
I’ve just come back from a few days away in Dorset photographing butterflies
downloaded each days shots onto an external drive using laptop and spent a few hours going through and editing them, when back home I tried to copy the edited shots onto another drive got a clicking sound from the drive and it wouldn’t connect
I tried a few times and then the drive started working again was so lucky was able to get them all off
I made the basic mistake of not backing up to another drive as I was going along feeling pleased and relieved that I won’t have to edit them all again :)
next time I go away will take 2 drives , although I haven't wiped the memory cards yet

Re the memory/cf cards. I never format them until my photos have been backed up on the LR backup disk and Time Machine which backs up everything. (iMac)It's paid off a couple of times over the hyears. Not a failure of the disk but me doing something that lost particular photos.

I have not had that happen to me, Pete, but it is a timely reminded to be much better at backing up.

Thanks yes me too I never format them until they are backed up
I also use iCloud and carbonite cloud storage as well as hard drives

I've been playing with my new toy for the last few days. It's a garden shredder that chews up branches as effortlessly as it mulches leaves and stalks...

I think the gloves might challenge it

Can I ask which model that is and what diameter of branches will it accept?

We regularly have 'chunkier' stuff that I end up reducing to garden waste bin "size" using a handp saw, loppers & secateurs as needed.

Seeing your mention a shredder has piqued my interest......might be worth buying one

Looks like an AXT 25 TC. They claim it'll do 45mm and it might but probably not for long.

There's a lot of doom 'un gloom about these days..far too much but today I was cheered to hear of the initial photo results coming from NASA's latest space telescope....the James Webb Space Telescope.

I won't be trying it in the near future, I have more than enough material under 25mm to keep it busy until the end of the year. I did take up the offer of three years all risk insurance, so we'll see what happens in due course.

I have looked at the price.........about double what I was 'hoping' it might have been.

I will have consider what to do when we (later this year?) tackle the jobs where we could benefit having it for???

Unless you have a big garden that will keep it well employed, I'd suggest hiring a pro grade one when needed. Of course, if you do have the luxury of a big garden, buy a pro grade one once rather than a toy every few years.

If you have a big garden just pile the logs up in various ways to make wildlife habitats and gently rot. If suitable logs get some fungus ‘seed’ and grow your own mushrooms.

WCMUT was discovering that it was the ginger bewigged harridan's last day hosting Countdown. WMMLOL was the conundrum solution being LOATHSOME!

"Emanuel! Don't do it!"

Do you think he'll do it? You'll need to watch to find out :D "Do you feel fulfilled, now?"

"Do you feel fulfilled, now?"

Last year I planted a few chilli seeds. They germinated and grew well, but because I started them too late in the season, they did not produce any fruit.

I have read you can overwinter chillies but also that it is sometimes/often not successful.

Perhaps I was lucky but this plant is the one I overwintered and it is now producing loads of fruit.

It is a variety called Purple Princess and is an attractive plant even without the chillies, but I'm pleased it survived and seems to be doing well.

I've had a few of the chillies. They are hot - not Scotch Bonnet hot - but still good and quite fruity.

I like the mauve flowers too - a change from the usual white ones on chillis.

Found a bottle of Chardonnay in the fridge. I usually drink red wine but in the heat, the Chardo out of the fridge went down a treat! Should I buy a pink shirt and a big white hat? :)

I'd get a new bottle (or case...) of that Chardonnay before Mrs Pixbarmy notices it's missing!
