WBMT.....What baffled me today

People using word or phrases that they don't truly understand the meaning off.

There have been a few comments on the local news hub ( FB) lately
Where they are disagreeing with or complaining about the local council & councilors,
And referring to them as "Bloody nounces" or p****'s.

They are leaving themselves wide open to defamation of character, litigation, surly?
Well, the comments that you describe.....surely are surly ;)

PS the latter word used on social media puts me in mind of the attack (some few years back) on the Pediatrician because the 'attacker' did not know the meaning of the word!!!! I cannot recall the outcome but was the person prosecuted???

I wonder if their IQ is going to be high enough to run their Autonomic System, let alone make laws. If you think we have gobbledegook now, it will probably go something like this:

So, well, like, she said, like well he said and then turned round and said. Bless, innit - what I mean is, it's like, well just so innit. :headbang:

Yup, that potential future "speak" is as about as intelligible as some current days 'rulings' or even government white papers  :runaway::headbang:

If that’s how they spell them —- both incorrectly — the maybe they are safe ㋡.

No they spell them correctly. It was my spelling just as we would say they were watching pawn at work ;)

And where's the "Literally"?

And where's the "Literally"?

You're right - there are just so many that are misused (or made up):

Basically, literally, I personally, absolutely, irregardless, like, actually, of instead of have.

Then of course there's the phrases that make you sound completely stupid and the regulars I hear are; 'The proof is in the pudding', 'I could care less', 'baited breath', 'on tender hooks', 'waiting on someone' etc. Most of these coming from American rubbish TV, so our youngsters start repeating them.

I better shut up before someone suggests I might be a pedant - as if.

And do't get me started on the spellings, or grammar, from grown adults that shuld no better.
Some of it is totally incomprehensible.

WBMT is how a toe poking through a worn out sock is "offensive" enough to be moved to the HT jokes thread. Someone has a sicker mind than me.

Well, I'm afraid you've missed it then, Marc! I (try to remember to) delete them once I've posted them so I don't repost them - at least until they reappear somewhere once I've forgotten them (a month or 2 later!!!) I might be able to find it again but I'm not sure where I found it and I'd probably get spanked (well, birched) if I reposted it.

It couldn't have been more "meat & 2 veg" had it been a N&G post.
I can't see it in either thread
Da' management deemed it was unsuitable viewing.

Teenage girl left with serious head injuries following collision in Milton Keynes.
At around 5.30pm yesterday, a Vauxhall Corsa and an e-scooter were involved in a collision on Duncombe Street at the junction of V7 Saxon Street.

WBMT? there is no road junction between Duncombe street and the V7.
Duncombe street is blocked off at this end and
they are separated by a pavement about 30 feet wide.
So was the Corsa driving down the pavement? or did the person come from Duncombe street, across the pavement, onto the busy V7 ( 30 mph limit at this point)
without looking?

I'm baffled. But I'm sure the truth will out at some point.

WBMyesterday evening.......

We had the patio doors open all day. At about 7:00 whilst having a cuppa, a female (possibly juvenile) House Sparrow flew through the patio doors down the length of the room and flew into the lounge window at the opposite end with a bump,!

It fell into a magazine rack.....then flew to the corner of the room and just sat there unmoving for about 5 minutes. I was in two minds as to what to do without distressing it any further.

Thankfully it 'revived' and flew up towards the same window it bumped into but veered towards the open side sash and flew off..... hopefully AOK.

PS in the garden we have a large Forsythia that the local Sparrows love hanging out in. I can only surmise something startled the uninvited visitor into the house.

I have that from time to time. Alway tricky to eject them except for blue tits which usually find a perch and survey the problem. So if I open a nearby door or window they get themselves out!

Probably a youngster - loads of them around at the moment (we've got the third batch shouting from Mrs Next-Door's gable end!) and they're not the brightest! We had a magpie come in to the conservatory last week and a recently fledged sparrow on Sunday. The magpie found its own way out after crapping on the sofa but the baby sparrow needed herding into a corner and to be given a very gentle hand the final 6" to the open vent window. The cat used to lie below the wide window (10" wide in 3 panes) waiting for the stunned birds...

We have had over the years a few, mainly Blue Tits, crash very hard on the outside of the windows. IIRC all bar one died but the very first one I put in a small box (old ice cream container) with a jam lid of water and covered it with a cloth. I rang the RSPCA who advised to wait a few hours and then go outside and uncover it. Well, the few hours was overnight......once uncovered we were delighted to see it immediately take off and fly away ;)

As for yesterday's Sparrow, when I said the room corner well this was on the floor in tightish space.....not easy to attempt to reach down and hold it. We also left the lights turned down which did not help to ID adult female or Juvenile.

I‘ve had a lot (from woodpigeon downwards) crash into the windows, all flew off! I have 2 ‘opposing’ windows which I suppose they see as a flight path. I’ve always suspected they could have been avoiding the very active sparrow hawk and so possibly not cgoing very fast as having just taken off.

I get "dust Angels" on my (single) kitchen window, they see the reflection of the sky and try to climb through it.
And same as you Sparrowhawk looking for a meal.

Several times I've had a house martin fly past - as I've been sitting in my living room. They come in through the open kitchen door, turn right into the hall, turn left and straight on for the living room. I can only think they've been chasing an insect. They normally find their own way out but I had one youngster pinned to the window (fortunately an opening window, so seeing it safely on its way was easy).
Where we go away to in Scotland the house martins hawk up and down a fence lined up with the caravan door. They've given the kichen the once over a few times.

WBMT? well for a few days now.
Has anyone else noticed that prime next day delivery, for some ( increasingly or so it seems) products are now 2 days.
Even when sold and dispatched by Amazon?

Yes, I have and it's bloody annoying. Still, I suppose with 'almost everyone' buying on line now I suppose it should be expected.

No I haven’t but things tend to come earlier than estimated (not just Amazon) for me. :)

If they actually come sooner than projected or anticipated.....the RM etc are aiding whoever the seller is to "under promise but over deliver".

I too have noticed that some Amazon items come quicker than projected timescale, even in one recent instance 'sold by Amazon, dispatched from supplier' 3rd party merchant (it was a modestly low value item) cam three days sooner than expected.

Not really the point though, a lot of people pay for one day prime and that seems to be slowly slipping away.

Mrs ordered something yesterday about. 4pm and it arrived here at noon today, can't argue with that.
