WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Can't you get the PIN number sent to an email address or your landline number? .
Thanks --- I'm looking into the email route

yes it was sent to my home phone but -- being hard-of-hearing I could not understand the pre-recorded message (in a non-English accent )

//why do companies use non-Brits for answer service //rant OFF

WAMT 25% of the folks were kids, on my plane home from holiday. That would be no snooze on the plane then! God Bless mums, who were magnificent!

WAMT is "WeBuyAnyBike" being a lie - they don't! Just want to avoid the hassle of private selling so put all the details in only to be told that they won't even make an offer.

Grrrr.

Today a woman decided to do a U turn at a T junction. I was approaching the T to turn right at the end and flashed for her to continue but she just sat there and flashed me so I pulled forward. She then began her crazy manure but then just stopped blocking the junction and whilst she did this a car drove up behind her waiting to turn left. As the road is narrow I was now blocked from turning right by the car behind her. As she was just sat there not moving I wound my window down...

Me "You're going to have to move, you're blocking the junction."
Her "Move."
Me " I can't. There's a car behind you."
Her "YOU $$$$$$$$!" (abuse.)
She then turned behind me, mounted the pavement, drove on it and turned left.

Funny how her being a moron was my fault and this was outside a school. Some people should have their licence taken off them and burned at the side of the road and this abusive moron should be first in line.

Minding my own business walking back from shopping and had a small dog (Pomeranian?) take a bite at me. Luckily it only caught my trousers so perhaps a "warning bite"??

Dog owner had 3 small dogs - 2 on leads, including bitey one

Owner said "oh sorry did he bite you - he's a bit snappy"

I suspect most people would have said "oh no it's OK" which is what I think the owner was expecting, as he became very defensive when I took him to task for having an obviously un-controlled dog in public.

"What if that had been a small child" I asked? bearing in mind it was school turning out time and there are 3 junior schools within a few minutes walk.

Don't mind dogs - have very little time for dog owners who think it's OK to have untrained/uncontrolled dogs in public.

Sheffield Wednesday has still not paid players and staff, a week late now.
Officially under EFL embargo now.
Looks like 3 transfer window ban and 23 player squad limit, yet to be confirmed.
Apparently, even if it's sold the embargo still stands.
What a mess.

At 4.15 pm we decided to have lie on a sun-bed under a brolly and a few palm trees around the pool so, out of direct sunlight. It was about 30C. Quite soon after, a couple came to the two loungers next to us. She sat nearest to us..about 2m away.. On the other side of us, was another couple. Within five minutes the lady, who had just arrived, got on her mobile and started a conversation with whoever. Not atall quietly . The lady on the other side of us, from Sheffield, gave us a roll of the eyes. I said that I hoped it wouldn't go on long. How wrong I was. It became too much for that couple and they moved to loungers at the far end of the pool and she gave the lady on the phone 'a look' .as they passed her. To no avail. We then moved to the loungers that couple had vacated. People walking by looked at the lady on the phone.

The couple on the far side of her packed up their towels etc and left the pool area. We got chatting to the lady now next to us who told us about people who had done the same but on speaker phone and how rude and inconsiderate that was. After an hour we also decided to call it a day and went to our room. That was about 5.20 pm. At 5.45 pm I looked down from our balcony to see the lady on her phone stand up, phone in hand..have a couple more minutes on the phone and then ended the call. It had lasted an hour and a half. What made it worse was that it was all in Chinese. A language hard on the ear of Westerners. The lady's husband had a swim during the call and went off somewhere but now returned.

It's amazing the amount of inconsideration that goes on. One man had ,what seemed to be, a business call for about 20 minutes on Tuesday..in english.

Some of these people have their phones set up so voice activate. I have been known to say loudly, "text all I'm crazy" or something similar as I pass. The other option is to join in the conversation, until they get annoyed and leave..

Most people will, understandably, rather just avoid confrontation. I don't understand how these people can be so utterly oblivious of the impact of their behaviour to those immediately around them They really must, just not care.

The dreaded mobile phone is rarely out of a lot of people’s hands these days , hate it when the daughter and granddaughter come for dinner and both will have a phone in one hand and a fork in the other . Either chatting to friends or watching tik tok videos that only they can see , and trying to eat between chatting or laughing. Drives me insane

I once had a Kazakh GF and she hated the Chinese with a passion. She used to say to me "You wait until they get out in the world. You wait. You'll see." My wife has a less than positive view of them, not as much as the Kazakh lady though. There are lots of vids on line of Chinese tourists doing things you wouldn't believe whilst on holiday abroad.

We always had family meals together and no phones iPads etc. allowed at the table which my children accepted. In fact when my son and daughter visited from university, they still did not bring phones to the table. Now they are both married and living in their own homes, they still understand our table etiquette (as do their partners). My wife is a very good cook and expects all attending to appreciate her meals. Another advantage is that, as we always had family chat during meals, we often picked up usful information. During the more relaxed chat there could be comments like I am hoping to attend a sleepover with a friend in a couple of weeks. I think they found that keeping us informed was better for all of us. I did once ask my son if there were drugs at his school and he said yes but we did not need to worry as neither of them would have anything to do with drugs. Just as well as one of the teachers was selling drugs but received a long prison sentence. My daughter always said, we will tell you what you need to know but there are some things that you do not need to know. We have never asked her to explain further as we clearly did not need to know then so it does not matter now. One of the grand children is 8 and accepts our rules when she visits.

This morning at about 9.00am we were leaving the dining room, after breakfast, and negotiating the tables, most with guests having breakfast, when I heard a familiar voice. Low and behold it was the above Chinese lady and she was having a phone conversation with another Chinese lady who I caught a quick glimpse of on this lady's phone..so, video -calling ?....and she had her phone leaning against her glass of orange drink. She wasn't on the periphery of the dining room, not that that would have excused her bad manners but in the middle. I'll make sure we don't sit anywhere near her either in the dining room nor around the pool.

I must Google how to say.."How long are you here for ? " in Chinese...lol.

We have a long walk each morning along the prom, Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos and there are a lot of men from Senegal/Mauritius walking along trying to sell sun glasses ,Chloe and Christian Dior handbags..all fakes,of course..I do wonder why the restaurants don't stop them going table to table when people are having breakfast/lunch . They start about 10.00am. Some are selling huge 'throws'. They go onto the beaches, too where people have sun-loungers. Some Chinese were arrested last week for importing to Spain €6 million -worth of fake goods. I photographed some of the sellers for the 'street scene' forum. One women with a baby in a sling on her back shouted at me .."no photo" and told me to delete the photo. She didn't use the word 'delete' but I got the gist. She also came from Senegal or Mauritious, probably illegally or having the baby with her was against the law. It was about 30C. Last week police arrested quite a lot of them re no documents, no licences etc....but they're back.

It's hot so we often take a rest on a prom bench and this morning I watched as a man and women went bench to bench trying to get people to sign up to a 'donation'. I saw some people do that and give them money. They got to us and they were pretending to be deaf/dumb. I asked them what did they want money for....in german and the women just said.."english, english" I told her I didn't speak english only german and off they went..They went to the next bench and harassed the couple there.

Even Jehovah's Witnesses had a stall on the prom with a notice offering..." Free Bible lessons". Their version of the Bible,of course...not the one most people know as the Bible. ie.. the King James Bible...and nothing's really free..there's usually a price to pay and for some unfortunates there will be.

It seems the deaf/dumb /signing a charity and donating there and then, is a prevalent scam in European capitals, especially Paris.

We had seen this type of harassment in Spain and Paris so when we planned a visit to Rome we expected the worst. However, a week before we saw a news item which showed the police in Rome rounding up all of the Romanian travellers camped around Rome and sending them away. The week we had in Rome was great with no harassment and fake begging.

Trying to change the card number for a new card to pay my bills!
OMG, how difficult can a company make it.
I thought this going cashless idea was supposed to make life easier (for the bank I assume) changing three things, paypal, my mobile phone and my internet bill card has taken 3 days and 2 phone calls to my bank, plus trying to set up internet banking, which didnt work and I didnt want, not helped by the bank sending me the wrong bank link for an online account (I kid you not).
The problem seems to be nobody is communicatibg with anybody else.
Virgin my internet provider, are so bad it's past a joke, their website is a disaster. God knows how they are going to get to space, they cant make a websie work properly!
Rant over......

I haven't taken any pictures for a week so as I was going out today I thought I'd take my camera and head off once the days business was done. So, off I went to a location and I even had a picture in mind but there was complete cloud cover, dead light and hardly even the hint of a shadow so I just gave up and went home. I have a million pictures taken in dead flat light and I don't really need another one.

Here's hoping for more inspiring light the next time I take a camera out.

Have you tried at the end of the tunnel? :)

It's probably the train coming the other way.

It was Romanians..male /females, who approached an elderly female guest from the hotel we're staying at on the prom..one evening last week just before she was to leave for the UK and one distracted her trying to sell her flowers whilst another grabbed her handbag. She had €300 in it and her mobile phone. She was left very distraught.

It's good to know that the police take proactive measures like that. I watch a lot of videos by a Czech guy called 'Honest Guide' He hates these people and, basically spends his days 'at war' with them and puts it all on Youtube as a warning to tourists.

There are many clips here to choose from. He operates in European capitals. This one is about scam taxi drivers and another one is there re scams in Rome.

Even in the halflight of east Cleveland we can see we aren't actually in a tunnel because if we were we'd see the light at the end and go and take some pictures in it.

As I've mentioned before... In another place based in another country they were enthusing about the quality of light above a certain latitude. I live above that latitude and my input was that if you do dead flat light just isn't all that lovely when you see it so often. Not all places below it get good light though. I'm off to Thailand later this year and their light often isn't great either. The best I've seen was in Kazakhstan. The quality of light there even indoors was something I've never seen anywhere else.

TBH I find light quality often seems more about time of day and how the clouds guide the light than location - north OR south. But you don't do badly with your pics.

I feel I must apologise for the quality of light in the UK.
It appears to be directly linked to me and my camera. In addition , I must confess that taking my kit on holiday has ruined the light in many other countries. Sorry.

I read this last week, is it correct, If so what a dreadful state football is in.

Only 3 clubs have a smaller wage budget than the Owls and they are still losing £ 200 000 a week.
Players and staff members have not received full pay this month and the owner wants to sell the club for £100 million.

There is a lot of Debt in Footballs Clubs, a bit like Water Companies.
But people are prepared to pay for season tickets and TV channels to watch it.
But it's not for me.

A while back I did get into the habit of taking a camera out with me whenever I went out but that's drifted off now. We see people here posting about losing their mojo but I don't think I have, it's just that I get tired of being disappointed and thinking I might as well not have bothered. If I was going somewhere different or to an event/occasion then I'd still take the pictures because they're different or record something but I have so many flat light pictures of my local area that landscape/scenic pictures (rather than people or event pictures) just aren't worth taking.

Yep. Still no wages paid. John West and Thai Union have put out a statement distancing them from the club.
It seens apparent that the family have cut D Chansiri off.
He has been propping the club up by £2 mill per mth. Why he doesn't sell is a mystery.
The shop and merchandising are a joke. Massive fan base but shop has little anyone wants to buy.
It does not bode well for next months wages and when HMRC comes knocking.
Administration and demotion looks a certainly, with xfer embargo, squad limited to 23 and possible points deduction.
Needless to say, the EFL have been useless throughout.

Snap. However, in my case I blame it on digital.
I certainly dont get the buzz I did from film. I rarely print anything these days.
I tend to think, whats the point,? I can pretty well digitally create any image I want anyway. Everything has changed. Editing digital images was interesting for a while, but has become a chore.
It's not photography any more.

Do see what you mean, I don’t even try to do landscape type photos in the UK anymore, though it could be said that down to my lack of ability and can’t be bothered, but the light when abroad does always seem to be nicer
I am into nature though and still get up at dawn to photograph butterflies and dragonflies

Eon.

Sometime last autumn Eon contacted us encouraging us to have a smart meter installed. We thought OK, and Mrs T went online, as suggested by Eon, to book a slot.

The reply was there were no available slots in our area so we just left things as they were. Roughly every month since Mrs T received an email from Eon suggesting we have a smart meter and everytime there are no slots available.

Eventually in March we were given a day and time but the day before Mrs T got a text saying they were unable to install the smart meter and as they had cancelled they gave us £40 credit on the bill.

Rather than attempt to book online again Mrs T rang Eon on the day they had cancelled and found they had no available slots in the rest of March or April and could not book for May because they don't take bookings more than a month ahead.

After reluctantly going online again a few weeks ago we got an installation for yesterday between 8am and noon. At 11:50am yesterday there was a text saying they were unable to install the smart meter and giving another £40 credit.

The credits were good and as it happened we had enough to do around the house and garden but would have been more than a bit annoyed if we had cancelled something to wait in, but what a way to run a business.
