WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Since our old passports were due for renewal, we did it online. According to the progress tracker, mine has been printed and they'll tell me when it's been posted. It's arrived... Not complaining about the service - 7 days from application to delivery but the progress tracking leaves a lot to be desired! Mrs Nod has had an "It's been sent" text.
I also had a very good service renewing mine online.. A very quick turnround.

Just cr@p communication!

Apparently trump still in charge and Vance still hanging off his braces.

Apparently, Guide Dogs UK want to stop the phrase "Blind leading the blind" as its offensive... you really couldn't make this up!!!

Suppose I can't tell people I was legless on my lads trip to Berlin this weekend, incase it offends amputees!!!

Our new window cleaner did our windows yesterday, put a card with his bank details through the door, so I have just gone to pay him the princely sum of £15 into his bank a/c. However, it requires me to use the card reader to put all manner of codes in so that this huge transaction can go through.
The card reader doesn't work, it keeps timing out because I cannot see the display as it is so faint.
This is so f----g wrong, nice start to the day.
Cashless society- I don't think so.
The card reader is the new one which my wife got from the bank a few months ago, with a brand new battery.

Hate them with a passion (card readers). Some banks have really poor apps. I am with starling and they are faultless, all done very quickly and none of that rubbish.

The card readers are mostly cross compatible so you can use a Barclays one for nationwide etc if you have another one about.

My Barclays PIN sentry failed a few years back IIRC I could request one fairly quickly via their automated switchboard.

I have a Nationwide card reader, battery failed so exchanged it in branch for a new one, old reader gets recycled, 2 years ago still not used it.

Another victim of bank security gone mad.

One of the banks I use has changed their 'phone software. It now demands a 6-digit code but they've only ever given me a 5-digit code. So I tried to get a 6-digit code from them and they gave me...

a 5 digit code. :headbang:

I have essential tremors (one of my numerous ailments after getting the jab in Feb 21).which means that I find it virtually impossible to use small keypads. depending what time of day it is and how my tremors are behaving, it can be virtually impossible to use a chip and pin in a supermarket if the card doesn't swipe, so the Nationwide card reader is so much smaller than that, I just keep hitting wrong numbers or two numbers at a time. I was fortunate that the window cleaner was in the village today and I was able to give him cash. I wonder why they don't give out verification codes by text for these current account items, because for the last few years that is what I have always used for online purchases when using my credit card or current account.

Sorry for the laugh but isn't internet banking great!!!

Don't be sorry, I have to laugh too, at the stupidity of the people who sign off systems that are clearly not ready for testing, let alone deployment.

An people wonder why I prefer cash, a monthly ish visit to the bank for a wedge and we’re all set, domino’s pizza “we don’t take cash” it’s ok, you’re too dear and I get better elsewhere.

Never really have a problem my bank always give me the option of text to registered phone number, banking app or card reader, normally have access to at least one.

Another dog poo rant - just went to retrieve our emptied paper/glass/metal/carboard recycling wheelie bin to discover someone had discarded a bag of dog poo in it.

Bin was empty - but if it had been full (as it was 2 hours earlier) the refuse collectors would havew refused to take it.

If I hadn't noticed then at the next emptying a bag of dog poo would have been spread all over the contents by the time they got to the recycling centre for what I belive is still hand sorting - not nice for the staff there.

What is wrong with people!!!

Complete tossers. There's usually a dog-poo bin nearby, these days.

In this case: probably nothing more than sheer stupidity.

I opened my front door, not long ago, to find a teenage girl and a much older man, walking away with two small dogs on leashes, one of which had left a dollop of faeces on our narrow pavement. They looked as guilty as hell when challenged but the girl did clear the mess up,

Just had my update from Southern Water about the bill. It has gone up from £32 per month to £47 per month. I was listening to the BBC news on the radio a couple of weeks ago and they were saying that wages were rising faster than inflation. Whilst I have no doubt that may be the case for some of the BBC presenters and celebs, it is a very different matter for the rest of us.

If on a meter you could have been underpaying or use has gone up? I have not paid mine for 6 months as I had 400 in credit!!

I forgot to post about our Severn Trent water bill. It was £92 a month...now £119..About a third more !! It's gone up £200.

Letter arrived from my car insurance co(saga) informing the other party is not responding to their bill so I may have to a court hearing.

See WCMUT.

Not so much annoyed as upset.
Went out to the garage this morning and found this little fella dead on our path.
Anybody know what it is? Scale, it's about 1 1/2 inch long.:(

It's a Goldcrest.

Edit to add a link..

I looked at that but the red mark on the head looked too defined.

A ruby crowned kinglet?

However, we do get a few goldfinches so seems more logical. Is that juvenile markings, I cant find confirmation?

Hi Brian, really sorry, I'm not sure what you mean?

The bird in the first post is a UK Goldcrest (Yellow 'gold' patch), the bird in the second is a North American Ruby crowned Kinglet.

I just had a search for options, before posting. The flash on the head was bright red in real life, it does not show as such in the photo, which made me doubt the goldfinch. I know that some juveniles have different colouring to adults though.
The ruby just seemed a possibility.

I'm sure you're correct with Goldfinch, rather than an American rarity in the uk. ;)

Thanks for your help.

It's a Goldcrest not 'finch.
Looks gold not red?

Oh right, I'm sorry, I think I just read what I expected and saw goldfinch. Doh.
It was much redder than the photo shows though.
I'm sure you're right.

It may have flown into a window which could have lead to blood on the feathers?

Quite possibly, a fair amount of glass near where it fell. Very sad though. Thanks again for your help Gav.

On another note.
Golf Last Sunday, in shirt sleeves.
Golf today, 3 layers and still colder than I've been all winter. :(

Might be a Firecrest rather than a Goldcrest - the head stripe is a bit darker in the Firecrest and there's a whiter bit above the eye. Whichever it is, it's a shame.

I know exactly what you mean about g*lf layers - yesterday, it was almost too warm for 3 layers but definitely too cold for 2!

I play at Tankersly Park, our 2nd green is apparently the highest point between the Pennines and the sea. Not sure thats true, but it is very high and exposed. It's nothing for us to play into a 3 club wind.

Quite a lot further South and we can see the sea (or, at least the estuary!) from a lot of the course. Can be a bit breezy up there too.

On this day 12 months ago I posted this :-

I took early retirement in July 2022 and was lucky enough to be on a final salary scheme.... That year my employer awarded a 5% pay rise backdated to April 2022 but those that retired between the April and when the pay deal was settled were left out..... And that p***ed me off, especially as inflation was spiralling upwards and my pension was effectively worked out on my 2020 salary and hadn't had a pay rise in 2021!!!

Fast forward to today and I received a letter from the company.... Apparently they've reconsidered their decision in 2022 and they will be awarding the pay rise to those who missed out, and the pay rise will also be applied to my pension.....

What does that mean for me??? I should receive about £5000 for what I am owed on my pension + about £500 back pay....... and my pension should go up about £100 a month

I received the backdated pay the following month....Equiniti, who are the administrators of my pensions, on the other hand have not been so quick.... 12 months on and I still have not received the increase owing on my pension.... I've phoned them and emailed them and their reply is "due to the large number of people that chose to retire in the months prior to the pay agreement they've had to put a project team together to deal with the issue" ..... The latest email reply stated they expected to have it completed by April 2025.... :headbang:

Emailed them again 12 days ago and no response yet........ the last reply from then took 2 weeks!!! :headbang:

I reckon I'm now owed around £7.5K.....

Be a nice little lump when it drops on the mat!

Be a nice little lump when it drops on the mat!

Yes, it will be when I finally get it!!! I timed my retirement so that I would qualify for that years pay deal as I was on a final salary scheme, expecting I would receive the pay-rise on my pension.... but when the agreement went through for the first time ever it was only applied to those in post at the date of agreement and backdated to April. I retired in the July and the agreement was made in the August....
