WAMT....what annoyed me today!

And your local city keeps dropping affordable housing requirements after planning consent has been granted. I suppose that's OK by you as well as wildlife disruption?
If that was about Exeter, I long ago gave up wondering when the voters would work out that the council is run by the incompetent at the behest of the deplorable.

WAMY was the post office/royal mail. Having been assured that a parcel would be delivered yesterday (mustn't get wet and the posties are the only couriers who consistently fail to follow the simple request to put any parcels in the meter cupboard...) they e-mailed me that the delivery had failed at 19:45 last evening. Worst courier company by far here.

Well, they delivered it today. Despite the notice on the door asking them to put it in the cupboard right next to the front door if we were out, It was just dumped on the doorstep. They didn't even bother ringing the bell (which worked just fine for the Evri driver earlier and when I tested it again after seeing the postman putting the parcel down.)

Batteries and waste. I am maling bread today, so had to weigh the flour. The Salter scales were dead, so searched around for a C2032 battery, spent ages trying other ones, then finally found a C2032 upstairs, where I keep the card reader. Why is it, that they cannot sell just C2032 batteries, instead of putting a load of other sizes in the pack with them, other sizes which I have never used and which are going to be thrown away? At a time when waste should be kept to a minimum, it seems to me that it is suppliers and not us the consumer who are the biggest wasters in the World.

As do Tesco and other supermarkets.

We had the battery replaced in a car key a few weeks ago, and the new battery was dead in a couple of weeks. :(

CR2032s come from IKEA and the other key batteries come via the big river in packs of 2 when the last spare gets fitted.

So our car has been filthy for weeks and eventually this morning I got round to cleaning it, not a proper job but it is now much cleaner than it was

Looked out of the window and saw this chap (assume females are too sensible to do this) was attacking his own reflection while intermittently s%^&ting on my clean car

Is there something about black cars and this behaviour? last year we had jackdaws doing this??

More to do with the season than the colour or cleanliness of the car. Plastic bags over the mirrors will hide the reflection of the "rival" but the individual might switch to using the windows.

A few years ago a UK uni did some 'proper' research and found out that red cars are more likely to be sh*t on by birds than other colours.

Just had a look - crows not jackdaws. When the crows were attacking the mirrors last year I covered both mirrors with thick cardboard and very strong bungge straps to stop them falling off and the crows still attacked the mirror through the cardboard!! I assume they have very good memoriesER7_3867_1500.jpg

They do! And they're apparently very intelligent as well, so it's possible that the crows "knew" that the "rival(s)" lived behind the cardboard. Not sure the Blue Tit shares the reasoning capabilities of the crows so hiding the mirrors MIGHT work.
We had a male Blackbird that kept attacking his reflection in the kitchen window so I put a strip of window obscuring film about 6" wide along the bottom of the window and it was just high enough so he couldn't see his reflection from the cill or the branch he used as a perch and he gave up after a few days of visiting the perches to see the rival off.

Photobucket !!!!!!!!! For the past year or more I keep getting bombarded with emails about saving my photos by signing in
No longer have a clue what my password is and don't want the account :headbang: :headbang:

I'd forgotten it existed.

I tried the cheap batteries from Amazon. Same experience.
Using a known brand like Duracell or Energiser my key lasts over a year, and still going.
Not all batteries are created equal.

I have a problem remembering passwords so keep a list of the non sensitive ones on post-it notes beside the 'puter. The few sensitive passwords are memorable to me and I have clues to them stashed safely should I need to remember them.

To paraphrase: the first rule of passwords is you do not talk about passwords! :exit:

I wish I could, not used it for years, no pictures I need to "save", I ignore their emails and still they keep coming

The best password to use is 'incorrect'. If you forget it just type anything and you will get a message on screen saying 'your password is incorrect'!

The postal service. Again! Ordered 2 books from the same seller 10 days ago - 1 arrived 2 days later and the other has vanished. Not a real problem (for me) since the seller has refunded but the failure does mean that the seller is out by the cost to them of the book and the postage cost.
Got an idea where the problem might be; had a parcel dropped off here earlier, drop and run (despite the notice asking for parcels to be put in the meter cupboard) but I saw the postie doing it so retrieved the parcel before he was off the drive. It was for 2 doors down... He seemed genuinely confused when I pointed out the 2 clear number signs he'd ignored and was sure we were the number on the parcel not the number on the wall and door.

Do posties(and other delivery peeps) get special training for this.

Today's post brought me the replacement for the missing book - sent by tracked post. Not that tracking helps - the misdelivered package on Saturday was tracked!

FInally tracked down a decent set of Kase Filters for the Oly, but of course I still need a step up ring, no problem, Carmarthen Cameras have the right one on ebay so purchase with it supposed to be here today, even got a tracking number on Monday, I check as its not arrived and it says it's "behind". Great, off on holiday on Friday evening and now stressing about it not arriving! I've messaged but we'll see what the reply is!

Football.
To be out of play, the whole of the ball must be over all of the line.
This means the whole of the line is in fact, part of the pitch.
This also means that the goalposts are on the pitch. They shouldn't be, they should be behind the line.
How many shots from wide angles have hit the post and should have been goals? FA, sort it out.
Just saying. :D

WAMT An ebay seller, constantly bombarding me with messages and emails to give them 100% feedback. Result? I've blocked their messages and will give NO feedback. Shame really, because the item is fine!

On Friday night, we decided to take it easy and get a Chinese takeaway from our usually reliable local place. We ordered one Singapore Chow Mein and a deluxe starter for two. It was the worst takeaway meal of any kind we have ever had and we will not be ordering from the place again. I am even now struggling to think how it was that bad.

That's really disappointing and frustrating when that kind of thing happens and it can stay with you for a good while.. I'd be posting a review tbh.

Get your wife to make a Persian Biryani with a banana sliced in half, longways, on top. A meal in a restaurant in Southport after a lads' night out when I was 20 and have never forgotten. It was superb..:)

Yesterday actually.
Took delivery of 2 new G plan sofas in mid sept 24. £3600. They now look 10 years old. Seat cushions have collapsed, material stretched and creased badly, also discoloured. G plan sent their man to see it. Our fault apparently, he says we should have plumped up the ,(fixed) seats every time we used it. The discolouration was due to sitting on it.
Our retailer ( Turveys of Rotherham) took one look and gave us full credit against 2 new ones. Not G plan i might add.
Looked at some reviews today and its obvious G plan have known about this problem for at least 3 years. Cowboys.

Had to dispose of a G-Plan sofa a couple of years ago. The webbing had given up the ghost and the cushions were losing the comfort. Then again, it had come down with Mrs Nod's parents when they came down about 45 years ago so it had done well! The IKEA replacement probably won't last as long but seems to be lasting OK so far.

WAMT..infact at 4.30pm. Got Radio Five Live up on my iPad at 4.00pm and listened to the chat re Spurs and Manchester United. All very interesting. As the match was about to kick -off a voice announced. "We are unable to broadcast this game due to rights restrictions".. It's because we're in Tenerife. I had to resort to reading it ..via the Guardian, as it was being played . Maddison is back from injury and had put them 1-0 up with an early goal and that goal won the game..

I live in Norway and get this every time there is live sports coverage on BBC Sounds (5Live). Even using a VPN to pretend I am in the UK doesn't work...:(

It costs a lot to run the BBC and they provide the service in the UK to licence payers. They block use from outside the UK to comply with their licencing agreements

It's only the radio 5Live live sports sendings that are affected; all other content is freely broadcast, so that content does not depend on geographic location nor being a fee-payer. It is the same with the Norwegian broadcaster who has the rights to live Premier League games. I can only watch sendings over my home wifi, nowhere else. Licencing agreements, as you say...

Not so much an annoyance as a royal PITA. Namely. a dead battery in Mrs Nod's iPace. Thankfully it was the 12V battery that runs all the "normal" systems in the car rather than the high voltage one, although the HV one is still under warranty. Had to wait an hour or so for the RAC to turn up but that's not too bad for a half-term travel day. 1/2 an hour later, we were on our way with a new battery. It's a very common battery so there was one in the van; not cheap (at RAC prices!) but cheaper than a Bosch + fitting costs!

Our La Z Boy 3 piece is exactly the same. Our previous one (made in USA) lasted around 20 years and I still have "my chair" in the conservatory (like the one in Frazier!). The new ones, made in you know where, are a very poor imitation of the "real thing"! It was the only one we could get, during covid. We will not get another! Nothing is made to last for long these days. It's all about turnover!

Our bed sofa is twenty two years old and as good as new! When we have too many people stay over is gets set up and used.

Purchased from Sofa Sofa, excellent :)

There are lot of Scandinavians..middle-aged /early retirement people, in our hotel in Tenerife. Of course they all speak very good english. It must be a popular destination for them. Just a few German couples but I'd say 85-90% Brits.
