WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Clearly no system is perfect!
I wonder if they will all go to "Smart meters" in the future?
I guess it would cost to much to replace them all now.
And just fit them as standard to new builds.

Not really an annoyance, but just to note, it's not half 8 yet and its just about dark,
although it is raining...
Here's Autumn :(

Impromptu visit to Knepp Estate with daughter and grumpy Jack Russell, no Camera and Tamworth pigs decided to show :headbang:

Decided to change wife’s car, deal agreed on ex demo with my last employer, all good?, no, car comes without spare just goo tin, asked my replacement in parts to order spare wheel etc and he says “6 month+ wait and £500 ish even to me“!!!! Tyres only made in Russia so scarce and Kia have decided these are money makers, so the search for a second hand or eBay deal starts, damn.

My Son was driving in Cornwall last week and had a puncture (no spare). He was told it would take a month to get a replacement tyre for this Mercedes. Fortunately, it his not his car and was rented so rental company provided an immediate replacement car but not big enough for their group but provided another Mercedes a few days later. I was with my daughter and granddaughter when she had a puncture and no spare. It lost us the entire day of the holiday and probably stressed the Grandparents more than our granddaughter. My daughter has since changed her car and now has a spare wheel. When I bought my current car in 2014, I insisted on a spare wheel. Yes, it costs £500!!!! However, not had reason to use it yet and hope that remains so.

My Skoda Fabia had a cut in the tyre sidewall so it needed replacing.
It took 2 weeks to get a new one!

What make of tyre was that and why no suitable alternative brand

I bought my car from a leasing company in 2014 (it had 8 miles on the clock!) and they only charged an extra £100 for the spare.

Generally if it moves more than once yes, but as its Amazon, fulfilled by Amazon, I'm quietly confident that it will actually turn up,
and the driver has just gone for a leak or a bite to eat :D

Hi Box Brownie, sorry for the late reply, I’m visiting relatives at the moment.
Original tyre were Pirelli, now I have Good Year. I was told by my garage, who I’ve used for 20+ years that the size was ‘unusual’, they are 215/45 R16 86h.
And they were difficult to locate at the time?

No problem

Perhaps check out availablity here

Posted one of my pictures from the Tour of Britain of the motorcycle policeman who’s not wearing gloves on the local facebook group.
cannot believe the amount of vile rhetoric I received coz my comment was ‘ tut tut not wearing gloves ‘ as an ex biker I would rather pay for replacement gloves than several months/years recovering from knackered hands. Needless to say I have removed myself from facebook

Yes well normally I would keep such a subject to myself rather than burden others. However what does annoy me is as i settle down to a morning coffee and the days newspaper at a single table at my favourite coffee salon, prior to my partner arriving ,I am joined by a woman who insists on talking to me and bursting into the most annoying laughter, loud and intrusive. .I am tempted to revert to ronion but good manner prevails.

WAMT? Wiltshire Council.... We have to pay to get our garden waste removed (once every 2 weeks). For the last 3 collection days they have completely ignored our bin. I'm guessing that our address isn't on their collection list, but I've now complained 3 times, and they have to make another trip just to empty my bin. I want to mow the lawns but can't as I have nowhere to put the cuttings.... Grrrr...:headbang::mad::headbang:

Ah! so in the house by agreement with the engineers that came to install it in the street? And as you say because in the house 'easy peasy' to read it :) but still remote readable by the "reader" when they walk/drive the street?

At this time none too clear when they will come, so hard to say if I will have the opportunity to discuss the location ???

Best to have in the house but my MILs was at the end of her drive, I used to use a torch and take pic with my mobile, watch out for the spiders though

Thanks, yes seems the best idea on the house.....as mentioned I think the kerbside tap is something like 2'6" down the hole :(

In regard the what they do.......AFAIK as the meter takes up a bit of space they enlarge the hole (some neighbours have a meter (not smart?) already and those kerbside plates are notably larger than ours plus our tap location is in close proximity to the BT access chamber! That makes me wonder if that will compromise their intention to put the meter there???

Oh, the team that spray the house numbers in advance have made a mistake.....they have marked a main "stop valve" (there is a nearby identifier post stating so!). But our residential tap kerbside cover was obscured by our hedge..... cleared it today so much more visibly identifiable. I am unsure whether I should report their not properly marking our residential supply and alert them to the fact that the wrong kerbside plate has been marked as "ours"??? Don't the marking team have a pipes map let alone that the SV ID post is there to see!

By way of an update.

I spotted the digger team in our street this morning....so went and had a chat....we are not on their list today for meter fitting ~ phew!

Re: the mis identified plate in the pavement ~ he said yes, the wrong plate for the residential supply
Re: meter in the house

In both cases above he advised phoning Affinity Water....the CSC took notes and said the Metering Team will ring back within 24 hours to discuss both items :)

The CSC I spoke to showed no surprise when I asked about fitting the meter in the house ~ though she said something, thinking back, about oh you want one in the house too!!! Her passing it to the metering team says it was above her pay grade 'so to speak'.

Edit
Well, a missed call with text saying external meter installation has been cancelled and to phone to arrange for an appointment for the internal meter.

Done and booked for later in the month.....this (different) CSC said they have appointments available in our postcode across a couple of days....my surmise is that we are not the only household requesting such an internal meter installation!

Not annoyed today but Saturday. We've just about got over it but here's a heads up for anyone travelling on the M5 south over the next 12 months. My wife said there was a road sign warning of Road works involving junctions 14..south Gloucestershire and 15 east Bristol. I missed seeing it. Our journey to Mid-Wales, where are now, should have taken three hours. It took almost six hours. The traffic from J14-15 was static for ages. We got off at J15 but could see all traffic carrying on into the SW was stationary. We went onto the M4 over the Severn bridge and hit another holdup. We never found out what the cause was in either case. Off at J24 onto the A449 through Brecon and Abervegenny. More holdups on that route but just 10/15 minutes..road works with lights both showing red and cows being taken from a field to a farm. Instead of marching on, a couple decided to snack on the grass by the roadside hedges. We were shattered on Sunday..a day lost of our week's holiday and have only just come to,today. We'll go back home using the A40.

Anyway. This is the heads-up re those road works lasting 12 months

What didn't annoy me today, well yesterday really, was that I managed to take my new (to me) Skoda and travel to Bexley in Kent, drive around for two days and get all the way back to Cornwall on 40 litres of fuel -- just under 600 miles. Cost me sixty quid for the round trip and the car did an average of 74 mpg at national speed limits -- I was utterly amazed at it's frugality. Fortunately, for now, it is ULEZ compliant but ULEZ really does annoy me, and I don't even live there!

^ Curious to which Skoda it is? I have the Scala 1.0L 110Hp and on a log run I can get 65 but only 50-52 commuting.

I do live there, well Bexleyheath actually, and I think that ULEZ is great. I can't understand why people are moaning about having clean air.
Back on the subject - it makes me want to look at Skoda, I get an average of 48 in my 1.0L Fiesta Ecoboost.

I think the problem with ULEZ was the speed at which it was brought in, seemingly with about six months notice, so the news would have it; also, the air quality in places like Bexley is fine and this does just seem like a money-gathering exercise. I can imagine a lot of out-of-towners getting caught by it too. I knew about it because my son lives there but if I'd just come in as a tourist I wouldn't even have known I was in a ULEZ as I saw no signs and didn't really notice any cameras that didn't look like ordinary traffic cameras.

I was born in Bexleyheath..... Lived in both Dalin Rd & Pickford Rd as a kid.

My fixed electric contract is about to run out so I went on line to see if I could do better then my present company are offering
Filled out the details and as soon as I put a phone number in my phone rang, even before I could put present usage figures !!!
Nice lady but a tad pushy and didn't have all the answers |I wanted, managed to get rid of her by say I would accept a call back next week, which I probably won't answer .
Figures aren't that much different to what I have been quoted and TBH always been happy with my present provider, customer service is better then most I hear about

We're in west Wales until Saturday and I was looking forward to watching the international friendly match (football) against South Korea..Chn. SC4. Their games aren't shown on our channels in England, which is a shame. I stuck with it for a while but found the commentary in welsh frustrating. I could manage an England game with no commentary because I recognise the players but only some in the Wales team. I wonder how many people in Wales speak welsh ? The owner of the bungalow we're staying in called by today and Mount Snowdon came up in the conversation and he wasn't aware of the recent name change so I Googled it for him.Yr Widdfa. He struggled to pronounce it. 80% of SC4's programmes have english subtitles but not,it seems, football. I'd imagine it's not possible to translate live.

It annoyed me not just today but regularly - that on my phone if I type Tamron to name a couple of my lenses, it corrects it to Tampon.
So it seems I have a Tampon 35-150 for my D850 and a Tampon 10-24 for my Pentax K3iiiM. Bluddy hell!

Don't know if this belongs here not sure if it annoyed me or amused me you judge.
Just been to Morrisons in the entrance they have a large display of sweets. Among them was two different packs of Quality Street, both packs have a large note saying "paper wrappers" printed on the front of the packs. Ok great then I looked again and realised the outer pack was plastic!!!! Is it me?

I suppose the wrappers in some aspects represent a greater risk of pollution if plastic than the tub they are in......as long as they are 100% paper and not a laminated product.

So many daft & inconsiderate b***ers throw small bits of rubbish in the street, at least if paper it will break down in the environment!

PS as for smokers of filter ciggies and chewing gum users

If you want to sell them, I know a couple on here that could use them :D

Washed and polish car last Monday, looked pretty good. Today we have had a few drops of rain which contained more sahara dust than water.

I keep looking for a non-accessible toilet
In some towns that is exactly what there is i.e. non-existent :headbang:

Edit ~ I was reading this morning a few reports since June to September 2023 about Woking Borough Council and the huge debt driven development of part of the town centre between 2016 to 2019 under Conservative leadership. NB the major Victoria Square development (that was the straw that broke the proverbial camels back was only recently finished.

The Lib Dems got control in May 2022 but obviously were locked in to those previous commitments.

They are now £1.8bn in debt (I don't see how the Lib Dems could have done anything of significant impact to reduce the debt burden) and one of a raft of proposed cost savings is to close the 13 council maintained public toilets.

The cost savings are only ever going to be modest and will, without Central Government support, be AFAIK unmanageable.

IMO and reading those articles illustrated the now flawed vaunting ambitions of the >10 period of Conservative controlled council.

FWIW we have not resided in Woking for over 20 years but have been semi regular users of the shops etc

Oh, one service slated for closure over the next 3 years is the Pool in the Park leisure centre. This AFAIK was very popular and well attended/used.

Sorry to rant on but the only arts venue Lightbox is wholly council funded (I thought it was only council supported?) is in danger of closure too :(
