WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Hay fever! I'm really suffering this year, drives me nutz

Clutch failure on our car. :$

Bizarre. I moved the car this morning, I could see what Wifey meant when she said "I think I need a new clutch". A rubby, grinding sound and a smell of burning but not actually like friction material.

I parked it up, plotting my next move.
2 hours or so later, it's bugging me, I get in it, start it up, put it in 1st and it pulls away with no drama. Around the block, all gears, all good. No Smell. No lights.

Even reverse is OK, which is when it 'failed' on Wifey last night, as she reversed up the drive.

Could we be lucky?

I think we'll just trade it now whilst it's running.

Could we be lucky?
Going backwards suggests that the hand brake may have locked on.
Then freed when you drove it forward?

Yup, I have a feeling it was/is something brake related. When it cools down outside, I 'll stick my head under to look for anything obvious.

Have you tried stall testing? handbrake on, few revs, lift clutch, it should stall not slip'n'run.

If the car has a plastic hydraulic line, they can expand in the heat, thinking of the red ones in freelanders and some BL cars.

Next door was having their patio cleaned. Here's where the van parked. My wife was out in the car and had she returned from behind the van she'd have had to go past it,turn round so she could get on the drive...carefully.. infront of the van.

WAMT Spending three hours buying a simcard for our spare phone, trying to get it to work, trying to get through to Tesco help (round and round on two websites), following the helpchat's advice step by step, repeating the process (just in case I missed a procedure), getting in touch with the sim card registration and finally being told that the number provided is not even on their system and to go back to the store for a replacement. Go back to store and get the third degree and have to wait whilst they credit the stock, credit my payments, get in touch with their card and credit issue department and finally get a replacement sim card - which I bring home, stick in the phone and have up and running in less than five minutes. Doh!!!

We've had workmen laying now cables down our road. I suppose it has to to be done and they are all so far at least on the other side of the road but what they don't have to do is park across our drive which is what they did yesterday. They don't have to do it as after the house next to us there's 100m of field with no drives to block at all. Today they didn't block the drive but they did park in front of our house which made it difficult to get out and turn the car. Why they wont walk the extra 10 yards after parking more considerately I don't know. Stupidity and lack of thought I guess.

Hay fever! I'm really suffering this year, drives me nutz

I mowed the front lawn today and had a 'itchy' throat. I don't usually suffer hay fever but I've noticed over the years, when it's very high as it is now and I've been working in the garden I get this irritation in my throat and go indoors to get a glass of water. Some scientists are saying the high levels now being experienced (more than in previous years) is down to climate change.

I suffer too, can't tke the medicines as they make me feel worse.
I saw some Nuage Hay Fever Wipes in Savers for 99p, so thought it was worth a try and they work for me.
I have some smaller 10 tissue packs and always carry one around with me.
I have told friends about them and they like them too, but they don't work for everyone.
Happy to send you a pack to try

That's very kind Ingrid, but coincidence or what! I bought the very same product in Lidls yesterday. They do seem to work I must say. My wife loves gardening and she is always outside (I have to watch through the window :)) and she swears by them.
Thank you again ;)

I was meant to go fishing on Friday, but I went on Tuesday and until yesterday was still suffering the effects of hay fever. It only seems to be grass pollen that gets me, but this year has been really bad, runny nose and itching eyes. Fishing will have to wait until the pollen levels drop.

Should have had our roof retiled two weeks ago - roofer put it off to last week and now to next week. Last two weeks lovely sunshine - next week's forecast rain!

So SWFC decide to part company with manager Darren Moore 4 days before pre season training starts and transfer talks with target players are ongoing.
What could possibly go wrong?

WAMT? and most days TBH.

You wade through dozens of Facebook posts, in a thread, formulating some witty repartee,
only to get to the end to discover the OP has closed the post.
All that pent-up sarcasm is now lost. It's enough to ruin anyone's day. :(

:D

Rainbows! Not real ones. I love those. Just rainbow washing companies, jumping on the band wagon. I'm extremely accepting, patient and kind to all but having this thrust in my face every two minutes is just too much! (Don't even think about it!) :)

I'm having a good clear-out and selling items, online, locally. What annoys me is...

People ask if the item is still available ? "Yes" Then I don't hear anymore.

Yesterday, a man was asking if the double ladders..up to the house roof..6 .7mts... are still available.."Yes" "Are they in working order ?? " Working order ? You just push one ladder up over the other and it hooks onto a chosen rung at a chosen height. I only want £30 for them. He asks "Will you accept £20 ?" They're old so, " yes". I want rid of them as I'm now banned, by my wife, from going up them. I've heard no more from him.

Another one re a 25m Hozelock hose reel (new...unused,I'd bought the wrong type re pulling out direction and had to buy a different one for inside the garage) and he wanted me to post it to Hereford ! ! It's gone now...locally.

I've mentioned all this (apart from the Hereford man) to my Scottish neighbour who said "it's Gloucester people." I've been here years and yet, never really consider myself 'at home' . I only felt 'at home' when I went to visit my parents near Liverpool.

I'm also parting with my huge Roland G70 music (keyboard) workstation, stand, piano stool, two quality speakers each on a 4' stand plus a woofer unit, two Roland sound modules and a guitar amp. I thought the best thing I could do with these was to give them to a local music school that is a charity. I did that today and they were absolutey delighted. The lady said that children (especially from deprived backgrounds) who would never get the chance to play on stuff like this will be able to do so. They work hand in hand with another like-charity who are more into Midi equipment like the Roland gear.t. Selling every item you have isn't always the most rewarding way to dispose of them.

Not that I use FB to get rid of stuff, very often, but the ones that annoy me, on the free page, someone posts something, sometimes it's worth a few quid, and within a few minutes, its "I want this"
Not please can I have :(

And then the people that want it delivered because they are "disabled and or don't drive".

I got caught like that once, never again.

I'm not sure if it was yourself or not but I recall someone saying exactly that..ie..that they had been caught out by someone claiming to be disabled and weren't able to collect. It was a good while ago, though. I suppose it must have been you as that wouldn't happen very often.

Well remembered, I did report it here, and yes it was quite awhile go.

A mate got caught out - "Could you deliver it please - I'll pay an extra fiver." for a 10 mile round trip. When he got there with the table, it was "Oh! That's too big, I don't want it. Bye." No payment.

In my post above I mentioned giving several music items to a charity that gives children from deprived backgounds a chance to experience musical instruments through teaching along with kids from more affluent backgrounds and they work with another similar group so a couple of those items will go there. Today, my neighbour also had a clear-out and took a couple of X Boxes (I'm not sure what exactly they are apart from being something to do with online games) that his daughter had, to the children's ward at our local hospital so, if you have any items like these and aren't too bothered about selling them maybe think of giving them to places like that.

HP printer ink (Instant) supplies. Tried for hours to set up automatic renewal for my ink cartridges but their system wouldn't "see" my HP Printer, despite it being listed as eligible! Did the online chat (Hello Bot for half an hour whilst it guides you through all the things that you have already done, before transferring to a live chat person, who then suggests the HP sales line, which tells you that you are in a queue.................................. then connects you to "Arthur" (working from home, so apologises for background noise) who reads a spiel sheet for several minutes, then says they will guide you, step by step, through all the processes that you have already done etc.etc. I apologise to Arthur and leave the call as I have lost the will to live, so will order a couple of cartridges from ebay or Amazon! My brain hurts!

I had a workbench..just a small handy one for the odd job but hardly used it so that's going too. Today, a man enquired if we still had it ? "Yes".. "Can I come and collect it ? 'Yes".. My wife (she's on FB,I'm not) gave him our address and asked when he was calling round. He replied "Can I come now ".."Yes". That was at 1.20pm. My wife went out and called me at 2.15pm to ask if he'd been...No. That' it.Maybe he had an accident on the way and is in hospital or possibly dead :D

I just cannot comprehend this behaviour.

A few posts up I posted a photo of the red van parked a third of the way across our drive and belonging to the man who cleaned my neighbour's patio last Friday. The patio is about 12m x 5 m. He did it in 30 minutes and charged £150 so he's on £300 an hour...probably cash. I do jobs like that for my neighbour as he's very ill and they insist on giving me something so I settle for Lindor chocolates. A favourite of mine. This patio-cleaner asked me if I wanted the block-paved drive done. No. I told him, I do the drive and patio myself . The drive doesn't need doing anyway ,it's clean.I have a really good Karcher that does the job in half the time it took with the old one. So..that was a week ago and today he's back door-knocking and asked my wife if we wanted the drive cleaning. I never deal with anyone who door-knocks for jobs.

A few years back I was clearing a warehouse and listed a load of small racking, perfect for sheds and garages(about 60 sets in total) on FB. I would have sold it three times over if everyone had arrived.

One women sticks out as she failed to show for the first round I advertised when I turned up specifically out of normal hours, and then asked again when I had to relist due to no-shows…..blocked her and moved on…

It was a "power washer drive man" that spurred me on to get one myself. It cost me £80 in the sale (complete with detergent attachment) and I've been using it to do the drive, patios, cars, white plastics etc, etc, ever since. It's a Nilfisk and I was advised to buy a spare set of seals (around £5) which I haven't used! It uses the water to cool itself and I have been informed that these are better than the air cooled ones. I bought the longer length hose version (in with the price) so can reach right around the house and garden. It works off mains or water butts with the click on attachment fitted to the taps (£3.50 each at the garden centre). Best thing that I have bought in ages.

Two things so far.

Our local ASDA has moved everything around again and of course it's no more logical than how it was before and of course they haven't changed the overhead signs so you go down the tined isle and find tomato ketchup. Lots of people were looking baffled and telling each other where things were.

More annoyingly.

Driving through a local high street I spotted an old and quite feeble woman trying to cross the road. There are crossings at each end but each are several hundred yards away and in that age and in that condition distance matters. I stopped and in so doing stopped everything behind me but oncoming traffic continued and of course the brain deads behind with no empathy at all started to sound their horns. She gave up and toddled off. What a world we live in.

Yes..they're an excellent buy. Unbeknown to me when I posted he'd knocked next door again (he did their rear patio for £150 last Friday 16th) to see if they want the drive doing..the lady is a straight-talker and in a broad Birmingham accent said "Now, you're too bleedin' expensive"..lol. He then promptly dropped the price from £150 to £120 but her husband said no.

I bought my K5 Karcher Power Control about 18 months ago for a dropped price of £170 from £200. I was amazed to see that today, it's £318 https://www.wickes.co.uk/Karcher-K5-Power-Control-Pressure-Washer/p/237048

WAMT was a pair of NLYF terrier types (nasty little yappy fnicklers!) that would go for anything on 4 legs heading into the pub where we were having lunch. Bad enough that the vicious little barstewards were going for every other dog (and yapping at any in sight) but made even worse by the owners sitting themselves at the table closest to the pub door so there was no way to avoid them.

People with dogs like that should be put down and their dogs re-trained in a socialising programme.

The cost for said training should come from the owners' estate . . .
